If you listen to Rush's lyrics their fans are participating in the same effect things they rally against. Almost any great drummer learns other drummer's parts note for note; transcribing and reading are important skills for any musician. Still, it's possible to study and emulate a drummer (or any musician) too much - and wind up sounding like someone other than yourself.
