  • The 222B in this video (OY-HIG, c/n 47132), was previously registered as ZS-HMD. At that time, the aircraft WAS painted up as a *replica* of the real Airwolf, and used on a promotional tour in South Africa. However, it was never used *in the TV series*.

There were 3 Bell 222A's used in Airwolf:

The actual, flying “Airwolf” was N3176S, c/n 47085. (crashed 6/12/1992)

    The non-flying mockup was N9988K, c/n 47001 (the 222 prototype).

    "Redwolf" was N1074T, c/n 47015 (crashed 4/15/1987)

  • the only thing I can think of is they used it for Redwolf (Airwolf II)

  • 730M thanx for your comments. What was the Huey used for in the film ?

  • it was a Huey that crashed not the 222 killing Reid Rondell

  • I worked on the orig. series airwolf at universal studios it was an awsome machine i still have some orig. footage stored somewhere knew it got sold off but did know it crashed how sad was a great ship some of the filmcrew called it Smogdog thanks for the info a vid

  • i never knew the 222 was called the airwolf... lrn something new er'y day

  • @FPVsean Airwolf was a short-lived American TV series in the 80s, starring a modified Bell 222 called "Airwolf" in the show. The real 222 used in the filming was sold off after the series' cancelation to a German MedEvac company. Sadly, it crashed in 1993 during a rescue, killing all aboard.

I just found it on Wikipedia: /wiki/Airwolf_(helicopter)

  • WTF no machinegun ???

  • This might be Redwolf instead of Airwolf.

  • Lol the blades look about 5 feet wide

  • The blades are 2FT. 2IN (0,66m) according to the flight manual.

  • Can add that reg. OY-HIG now is flying in Norway. ScanAviation is the new owner.

    Located in Sola Airport, Stavanger.

  • ha ha . i live there :D :P

  • Cool.. they (ScanAviation) use it to fly personal from and to the Oilrigs in the area.

Also supplys and crew for ships passing by.

    Kindly

    Erik

    Denmark

  • That would be nice...So, these bell 222 are still flying today?

  • Well there had to beat least 2to do the Redwolf episode, maybe this one was used as Redwolf?

  • A Slick Huey, The 222 is a nice Bell design,

It's like a mix of a JetRanger and a Huey.

  • it crashed in 1993

  • As far as I know (being Airwolf freak) there was used only ONE helicopter like Zach979 said, and that only one crashed in Germany in a thunderstorm.

Nice video though!! I wish it was much longer to enjoy the view and sound of this most beautiful helicopter ever designed on this planet.

  • yes you are correct this is in fact the very real airwolf one of three used in the series,

  • Apparently c/n 47132 (reg. OY-HIG) was mocked up for a single event in Johannesburg 1987, but not used in the series.

  • Well is't up to you to believe.. I have confirmed info. that it was used as stand-in a few times......

  • this heli was'nt actualy used in airwolf (but) it was painted up at one stage to look like Airwolf (some fome kinda shopping mall thing in south africa) theirs a few topics about its airwolf paint job on airwolf (dot) org :)

  • The original Bell 222 acting as " Airwolf " crashed in the second season after attempting a maneuver that left the Bell 222 crashing on the side of a mountain. It was a fatal crash for the pilot flying the Bell 222 as "Airwolf"

  • nope it never, during season 2 airwolf (the 222) was chasing another heli, that heli came down to low during a turn and clipped the side of a "hill" and crashed, reid rondel died in the crash, wasn't airwolf that crashed that day

when airwolf its self (hit an actual mountain) was long after the series had finished, the 222 had been sold onto a medical firm in germany, she looked nothing like airwolf at the time of the crash, and was on its return from a hospital burns unit

  • i see im not the only one who searched out what happened to the "Lady" *smiles*
