I just bought 1 like that yesterday, and it has been sitting for over 20 years as well. It WAS a 6 cylinder but the owner put in a pontiac 400 ci. Got it turned over but it had bad gas in the tank so I couldnt run it though.
I love old muscle cars. I'll soon finish my 69 dodge charger. Then ill be looking for a 67 firebird. Im only 17 years old haha these cars aren't hard to find.... You just need to look out for them. Muscle car or no Car!!!!!!
@amurican35 dont really understand what you mean by a canadian camaro would have a 6 in it....lots of american ones had 6's aswell, and alot of canadian ones had v8. the vin number is the reference to what motor it originaly had. and btw this is a firebird, not a camaro, but its still the same deal with engines
@barryismygod Wrong! It is the overhead-CAM inline six, known sometimes as a Cammer. IT was available in two displacements, 230 and 250 cubic-inches (3.8 and 4.1 liters) from 1966 to 1969. It was available with both a 1-barrel or 4-barrel carburetor. The former engine was standard in both the Firebird ant Tempest models and the latter was an option in both models and was part of the "Sprint" package which included a beefier suspension.
Hey ackman. very nice good luck with the restoration. We are starting to restore a 67 400 convertable. I will be doing the filming and documentation. So I will definatly be following your progress.
I was goimg to post something about kids not knowing what they were doing. But I can appreciate our youth learning about the systems of yesterday. Being 28 myself and having 3 vehicles that run a carb. Now I don't have anything fuel injected. Good work.
I have a half crazy jehovahs witness neighbor who live 12 miles west of
a town that has 400 ppl. He has 50 dogs and lives in an old trailerhouse down a mile long driveway. He has a 68 and 69 mustang, disassembled, but in mint condition. Brand spanking new....he just bought em way back when....took em apart...and mothballed em....I am haunted by the potential..
@sandman19681012 For one year only (1969) the Sprint option was available in the manual transmission equipped Firebirds and possibly Tempests with a 230-hp rating.
@Canada1Baby The "Slip Slide Powerglide" also known as the "Slushbox"! Plus it was the only automatic that could be push started! If you pushed it over 25mph!!! Seriously!
Amazing Find !! !! Just got to say you guys are making Hot Rod History in your own story book. This is a find of a lifetime. I found a 1968 Firebird 350 H.O. with all original drive train, 4 spd muncie and posi car. The guy I bought it from did not know what he had. Not quite as solid car as your Sprint but none the less a super great condition. I own two 68's and a '67.
Ya! the pans were actually in really good shape. The trunk floor has some pinholes from rust, and the driver's side needed a patch, but other than that it was really solid. Guess thats what happens when it sits for 20+ years without being driven :)
I've always dreamt about finding an old rare cool car stoved away somewhere and bringing it back to life. Imagine all the barn cars that old widows have standing around the world. Their husbands beeing 20 years under the peat and such. They must be out there!
hey exactly what did yall do to make it start i have a 68 firebird convertible in my back yard with a straight 6 OHC but hasnt been started in like 24 years
Really? that's awesome! make a video of it. Heres what I did.
1. Take out all the spark plugs, and squirt some motor oil down the holes. I found an old lucas oil stabilizer bottle works good for this. let it sit for a few hours, then come back.
2. Change the oil filter and oil. I had a friend open his oil plug and a spider crawled out on his VW that had been sitting for a number of years.
3. With the spark plugs still out, crank the engine over by hand a few times. This gets the oil out of
cylinders and avoids fouling the spark plugs when you go to start it.
3. Put everything back together. Squirt some gas down the carb (disconnecting the fuel line from the carb would be best, the old crap it'll start to suck up from the gas tank might make it not run at all)
4. Try cranking it over, if it dosen't fire check for spark. The points and condenser were bad on mine. $5 new at schucks.
You'll also want to replace the timing belt. These are interference motors, don't want it to break
My first truck, a 1980 GNC K2500 was from Alaska and it had a outlet box under the hood too lol. Man im jelous you scored yourself a really nice Firebird. Best of luck to you getting her restored.
Great vid guys, im glad to see people who restore old cars like these, if you only knew the value of oldies like these here in sweden, mopars (i know this is not a mopar car. or?) are really expensive here. anyways, great vid =)
You scored a great car. Mine was a 1969 Tempest Sprint-Six 250ci/230hp, 4spd(swapped in) manual, Quadra-jet. Installation of Clifford Research header and triple Webers made it run against V8s! Miss it dearly. Enjoy that Poncho-6.
dude u better take really good care of it my family telling me to get rid of my chicken and it has v6 in it run great going to do a full restore on it forget family never let your family make your car plans
Don't give up on the Cammer. They are great little motors. If you want to modify they can produce some fantastic HP. Check out some back issues of High Performance Pontiac magazine issues. They like being supercharged. Don't even think of dropping in a Chev 350.

Be sure to keep the motor/trans if you ever decide to jump up to a V8. I would drive the wheels off if I were you though. I wish mine was a driver!
Curious if you have determined what you have in store as far as rust.
Have fun! I look forward to seeing your progress.
