Dude, you desperately need to tune that snare. Not trying to sound like a dick or anything, just giving some advice, that needs to be tuned to a higher level, trust me it sounds waaaaaay better.
@boxstringmusic Well, you can, I currently have demo ambassadors as my resonant heads, and they can be considered batter heads, really any thin head will work as a resonant head. You wouldn't want to use pinstripes or something thick as a resonant head.
If you play the snare with your right hand and i hat with yourleft does that mean you cross arms when you reach ovver to the ride to keep the same pattern? retarded drumming style
@ransco1000 I keep them the same, it's called playing open handed, makes a lot of sense, it means I can play a regular kit without having to reverse it like many left handed drummers have to.
@acdcjonnyboy At this point they were the stock remo mapex heads. Now I have coated pinstripes on top, and ive put the coated emperors as my resonant heads.
@441greenleaf i tune them by finger tightening them all until i have to use to drum key, i turn each lug twice, then loosen my rack toms quarter of a turn, and my floor toms an eighth of a turn to keep my floor toms punchy. The same for the reso side
Nice free hand grooves, not too big on the fills, I'd maybe try to spice it up with something other than 2 under 2, maybe also something other than just single stroke, but definitely cool to see someone working that open hand and keeping the tempo solid. Props.
I have them around medium tenison, when I tune them, I take each lug up a quarter turn at a time until the head sounds quite punchy, then i do the same with my reso heads, I dont have my resos tighter or looser than the batter heads like some people do.
can i just ask what u put as the resonant/heads ? cause i plan on upgrading my heads to remo emperor as well but i dont know what to put on the bottom as i hear its important to the sound as well
i know this is of a camera but your digi cam wont record sounds that arent there, youre snare probs is that ringy it just doesnt sound it up that close when your playing, however i cant really criticise cause my whole kit is a pile of shit and sounds dreadful.
Sounds great. The Remo Controlled Sound sounds great on the snare. A bit ringy for me, but it's all personal preference. The Coated Emperors sound fantastic, too.
There really are no 'best' heads, just onesd that suit a musical situation. Do some research and you'll find the best heads suited to your style of playing.
The sound isnt perfect as its filmed on a digital camera, and I have no mics. The ring isn't as prominent in reality, though you need some ring to cut through, I dont like the sound of a really dry, dampened drum.
I use a torque key to make tuning way faster, though I can still tune with an ordinary drum key. I tighten the lugs until there is a bit of ring, then detune each lug by a quarter turn. Then I do the same to the reso head, I like both heads on my toms to be equally tuned, so they resonate in sync. They sound nice, warm and not too slappy with nice rebound.
Different companies, they're both 2 ply but the Evans heads have a pre-formed square collar round the edge that supposedly make the head fit to the shell better. Remo use a rounded collar.
I chose Remo because I prefer the sound of the emperors but they both sound really good, and the Evans coating is far more durable, and people have said that Evans has better quality control. Its just preference, every company has a bad batch here and there, and they'll often replace faulty heads. Whichever you choose they will sound great.
I can post one if you like, subscribe and ill upload onw ASAP, just bear with me because Ive broken my toe and cant play double bass easily at the mo.
Personally I would choose the clear emperors, because I've heard that the EC2's can sound a bit dead. But it really comes down to what sound you're after, and many drummers swear by EC2's for rock. I just play different styles so I'd choose emperors.
i agree. clear emps are good. i've played both and really i think that the Ec2s sound good right out of the box but after about 3 hours of playing i find the sound just gets dead and bleh. the emps are very consistent
I prefer remo, though evans has better quality control and a more durable coating. I just prefer the sound of remo heads, though I do use an evans emad on my kick.
ok so vintage emps batter and emp black suede on toms. black suede powerstroke both sides of bd. mahogany shells. what do you guys think? i'm thinking of buying this combo
Emperors for rock and pop stuff because they have a more focused sound and are more durable. Ambassadors for lighter playing as they are less durable and have a more open sound.
what do you suggest in toms ? Remo Pinstripe or Remo Emperor? Because im replacing my Evans Ec2 head . and for the snare , Remo Controlled Sound , Evans Reverse Dot , Remo Emperor ?

I prefer the tone of emperors, pinstripes sound a bit muffled to be, but it depends on what sound you want.
