  • If you have to ask den your not ready for a saltwater tank

  • are corals more fussy than fish to keep, say electicity failure ,not tempting fate, but which would be in danger first?

  • In my opinion fishes would be in danger first because temperature and O2 depletion.

  • bro sick setup im 2 months in on my 55gallon. do you distribute your corals to america?

  • May be one day...

  • This is like Frag Heaven OMG!! Hats off to you

  • Thanx Novi2216!

  • very cool. the best part is the mangrove forest. i aspire to have one myself. have you experienced them dropping "pods"?

  • Is that one continuous system? If it is, I would love to see how it is plumbed and works. For sure, one of the best set-ups I have seen.

  • Hi tkkamele!

Visit: ReefCentral Online Community => Forums => Coral Propagation and Aquaculture => Coral Maternity in Portugal. There, youll find a lot of information about this.

  • Espectáculo! Keep the good work...

  • Obrigado Filipe. Abraço.

  • what light is being used for the refugium and the tanks and are those mangroves?

  • Actually I'm using two energy efficient bulbs over the mangroves and six leds mounted laterally.

  • how much do you make on your corals?

  • Idon´t make money. I spend money.

  • Does the cheato algae helps corals to grow and dose the cheato algae always make the water clean right?

  • Chaeto algae helps corals to grow because it uptakes phosphate which inhibits calcification. About clearing the water, I don't think so...

    Cheers,

  • I follow your thread on the RC forum, and I can truly say I am mega impressed.

Wish I have the space in my house for this.

  • mangrove

  • lol

  • Me sinto orgulhoso de ser portugues so de ver seu trabalho. Abraços aquaristicos da Suíça.

  • Very beautiful but,

How much do you spend for the current bill???

  • Expétacular!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • can you tell me how did you get alot of corals in your fish tanks? can I breed corals in my fish tank too?

  • Breeding. Of course, everybody can do it, having space and marine-life support system for corals.

  • I had to watch this video again and show people here in America how the Portuguese get down on marine life!

  • I must have one.

  • you know what,if people were this motivated to have corals in there own tank, why not put this much effort in keeping our oceans coral alive??

  • Mikeman410, good observation! May be this is one way...

  • Very true, the private keeping of corals is one way to promote interest and awarness of the importance of conservation and protection of coral habitats.

  • And may be one more way for devastation. More breeding may help to protect.

  • well if you put them back in the sea it might help.

  • Also, do you have a job opening? I'd be willing to relocate to propogate those corals!

  • Is 380watts too much for a 12" 40gal reef?

  • 380watts of what? PC, MH, no you can never have enough light.

  • Wrong. Look up photo inhibition. You can have too much light, especially for someone who would ask that sort of question here because they should be starting with beginner(low light) corals.

  • What is a begginer coral? Subjective comment. Obviously common sense and research needs to be employed, don't put mushrooms at surface. You are right about photo inhibition, BUT no artificial light is more intense then the sun. Acclimation to light intensity is required for corals if accustomed to lower ligth. If you put 400wt MH on, run them 2hr, 3hr etc over several weeks, so you don't shock the corals.

  • trust me, bleaching is possible with any t5 or MH, if you dont acclimate properly the coral will turn white and eventually die, i got t5's when they first came out and had 6x 39 watts on a 40 gallon and i bleached the shit outta a few things(not knowing how powerful they were) some are still recovering to this day, i still use t5 on that tank, but only 2x39 watt with some added powerbrites, check my vids

  • no zizala, you can have too much light, you will bleach your corals and they will lose all color and turn white. 380 watts is to much for a 40, especially if using T5

  • I have leather corals sitting just below water surface right under 250wt MH and they are flourishing. Bleaching results when corals are under low light and then you put them under MH with a slow acclimation. Are you saying your T5s are more intense then sun light? obviously if u put mushrooms close to surface they will die under intense lighting.

  • zizala1, I agree with you.

  • Great, the best coral farm tank ive seen, i bet your nitrates are 0 or near.

  • Machado makes everyone from Portugal VERY proud.

    -

  • You are very generous.

  • If that's your garage; I really wanna see your tank in the living room!

  • I have no anymore tanks in my living room. I need to rest...

  • What a wonderful setup!

  • that is the most coral i have evr seen in 1 tank

  • looks like my place, just a little smaller. ;-) lol

  • That is the madest clip ive seen on youtube!!
