It allows you to hold the lens more comfortably with your left hand. The tripod collar gets in the way if you'd mount it the normal way. I usually mount it sideways (left).
Thanx for making the video.... but next time please watch the lighting. The whole video is too dark. None of the details show. The grip and the camera show up as one big black block most of the time.... pretty much defeated the purpose.
Nice Video about the Unboxing the Vertical Grip. Did you use it ALL the time & Isn't adding to your A700 with it to heavy to carry around? I know really happy with it. Keep up the good work Bjorn! :)
OMG, I was so worried the papers and manuals would be out of place, WHEW! Thanks for sharing as usual! One of these days I will do one for my HVL-F58AM (probably similar to yours), Sony SAL-50F18, and whatever else comes my way in the future. Until then, I will keep watching your awesome videos!

They're about 80 euros a piece. One came with the camera, so I only got one extra. A good investment though, having an extra battery.

does it get off....can you attace the grip an get it off, or is it attaced for ever, cause i heard some stories...
MrBeunhaas 2 years ago

It's more than worth it, trust me.
I wouldn't ever get a new camera without getting a grip at the same time.

great video, though i notice 1 thing, why is the tripod mount on the lens inverted upward?

I'm an also wanting the grip for the A200( Hehe...) Thanks for the video, it's great! ;-D
niallswand 2 years ago
You should! Shooting with a grip is a whole lot more comfortable not only in portrait but also landschape orientation.
It's great value and you'll enjoy every penny you spend on it! Trust me!

I agree with the grip adding a lot more comfort.

Yes, I use it all the time. It's permanently mounted to my camera! The grip doesn't really add much weight, it's not that heavy.

bleh, can't edit. I meant Sony SAL-50F14.....
thedr4gon 3 years ago
I understood what you meant!
A 50mm unboxing would be great! I hope to get one soon, and film an unboxing of course, but there's quite a few other things to get first...
What to (hopefully expect) the coming year:
- Sony VAIO VGN-AW11S/B unboxing (a laptop, I know, not as nice as a lens)
- Carl Zeiss 24-70mm f/2.8 SSM unboxing
- Sony 50mm f/1.4 unboxing
- Video reviews (like the flashgun video) of the Zeiss 24-70mm, the 50mm and the 70-200mm (I hope to review that last one soon!)

Classic! I didn't think it would have 2 battery indicators, brilliant!
The Sony community should be happy to have you on their side :-)

Thanks!
I hope to have more videos coming up for the Sony community, ones that are a bit more interesting!
