I caught one episode- I think it was Best Man for the GOB, and I really liked it. I only came across it in the first place when I was surfing channels. However, FOX kept changing the timeslot. It's hard to follow a show and get hooked on it when the network keeps changing timeslots. I finally caught up with it again when people were doing campaigns to save it and the show was making blatant references to cancellation in the third season. To paraphrase GOB, Fox made a huge mistake.

They definitely could have marketed the show better. Regardless, the show was too expensive (and the Nielsen ratings not high enough) to justify continuing the series. This touches on the unfortunate topic of how a television channel is a business and nearly all decisions are made based on money, rather than content.

The reason people speak so highly of AD is not because it's "cool", but because it was a fantastic TV show, one of the best ever, IMHO, and it didn't get ANYWHERE near the praise or popularity it deserved when it was still on the air. Then got cut down FAR earlier than it should have, and it was all the fault of Fox and their shitty marketing. Instead, now we gotta watch a ton more "awesome" reality shows like Dancing With The Stars and other brainless shows for the masses. Yay... :(

I like Mr Show, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and, David Cross's great standup work, but, Arrested Development sucked. I was bored, I didn't laugh. It always seemed like something was about to happen, something funny was coming up, but, there was no pay off, EVER. The only people I know who have recommended Arrested Development were posers.

Also, the absence of a laugh track required viewers to think for themselves. Without a device telling you what to think, telling you that "this is funny", people would have to exercise their minds, tap into their individual aesthetic and comedic sensibilities and decide for themselves what they thought was funny. Apparently, that is asking too much of average contemporary American TV viewers. I despair for the future of my country, but I still love AD!

AD was too smart for it's own good. I have a feeling too many people missed out on the more subtle humorous elements, like the fact that when George Sr. is on the lam he is obviously modeled after Saddam Hussein (hiding in the hole w/ the bushy beard, then the guy w/ latex gloves shining the light in his mouth) and Osama bin Laden (camouflage jacket & towel wrapped around his head making the "these are my demands" video in the attic).
