Ive always loved mongolia and have always had an obsession for it, my last username was mongoliaboy haha :) Im happy to hear you had an unforgettable time there, Lake Hovsgol is my ultimate favorite place in mongolia! and to see the rare almost extinct tsaatan reindeer herding people only in Hovsgol lake is unforgettable!
There is no frontier on the planet anymore, and if there is it's out of the reach of the average Joe. Let them have their fun, and maybe inspire others to as well. I'm sorry if you think adventure should come in a bottle, nice and manufactured... personally I think you're missing out a little on life.
No ikabinks, I don't think adventure should be in a bottle, BUT I think there are responsible ways to have an adventure and irresponsible ways. As I've been in the adventure business for over 30 years and have come CLOSE TO DEATH quite a few times, I know what I'm talking about. A responsible adventurer doesn't put other people's lifes at risk and said adventurer gets certified in the disciplines in which he/she partakes. I didn't here to woman say anything about being certified, just lucky.
Who are you guys to define what adventure, "should be"? I don't think any of us have the right to. If people didn't push the boundaries once in a while, how many stories of adventure and heroism do you think there'd be in the world? What do you think went through the first explorers' heads when they headed out across the sea? Some people dream of journeys like that, and if they want to find a way to emulate it, let them.
"Biting off more than you can chew" is not adventure, it's irresponsible and Lonely Planet shouldn't publish stuff that Lonely Planet zombies will certainly try to emulate.
Responsible adventure is doing things the right way, not doing whatever you think is cool, which is obviously the driving force behind Citt's mindset. One of these days she's going to get in way over her head and someone else will have to rescue her and probably put themselves in danger in the process.
Whilst 'responsible adventuring' is cool, it just isnt the same unless you have the feeling that its all down to you. Knowing that you are in danger or even having danger of death.
Its just a new level of adrenaline.
She knows what she is doing and she enjoyed herself. Its her life, and she wants to live it to the full.
Doing what you think is cool is the way to have adventures, purely because you get the highest amount of enjoyment from it.
As a publication that is setting some sort of standards and is in some respect, right or wrong, showing adventures that many might try to copy, I feel it is their responsibility to show/print more responsible ways to have a real adventure.
"Percieved" danger without really being dangerous is a much more responsible attitude. I'm in the adventure industry and stuff like this video does more harm than good in my opinion. Get emergency first response training and skills before venturing out.
Yeah this is kind of out there for an LP vid, usually they seem pretty responsible. If you're going to do crazy things that's cool, it's your risk to take, but don't incite others to do the same. If they are interested enough they'll do it on their own.
To rephrase that: she put someone else's life in jeopardy. That's part of my point. If she wants to risk her life, fine... but, as with most adventures gone wrong, other people have to come in a clean up the scene.

She basically stated that her guide saved her ass, how was that down to her?

I was talking in general, not specifically about her.

yes, this video WOULD be irresponsible....
IF people somehow missed the part of her saying how scared and lucky she was.
