Alright, listen guys and gals. I bought these from Jeff Rapps of TUIC himself. So everyone who says these are flowerhorns are saying that Rapps is full of crap. Also, too many of you think that just cause it isn't the exact version of a Trimac that you think of means it is a FH...not true! FH are Trimac mixed with synspilus, midas, and who knows what else. Just cause something doesn't look like the ideal trimac doesn't mean it's a flowerhorn.

Tremendous fish! I have small true trimacs and I dont know how anyone keeps more than one of these in a tank. They are very aggressive, even by CA cichlid standards!

They generally do, yes. If you wanted to send me a pic of him/her I could try to sex it. I have often heard that males will have much more color on the throat, even when younger, but it's tough to say at 2 inches. Females are often darker in color and have verticle bands.
Omen, Trimac, not flowerhorn. I spent some good coin and had them shipped in from one of (if not the) biggest name in CA/SA cichlids just so that I could be sure that they were pure Trimac's, rather than cheap flowerhorns :) Not to bash flowerhorns, some high end ones are freakin' amazing, but I was quite pleased to get my hands on some real Trimac's.
Flowerhorns are a hybrid. A cross of Trimac and another species or two...don't know which others, sometimes synspilus, but trimac is definately the most obvious eh?

and dont forget that it's a long stretch of rivers in southwest Mexico, El Salvador, etc. where they're found.
There WILL be variation. My trimacs sometimes have three spots and sometimes get those extra 'bars'.
