@bolaarroyo LSD allows more percentage of your brain to be used. Our brains receive a lot of information, but only process a small amount. LSD allows that information to come through unfiltered. There's even research to back this up.
@bolaarroyo If you look at the details about Syd's life, you'll see why he behaved the way he did. He took took too much too often, lived in a flat surrounded by the wrong people who'd constantly dose him, was pressured to constantly tour, write hit songs, then have his songs rejected (Scream Thy Last Scream, Vegetable Man), began taking Mandrax. That'd make anyone insane.
And then when he wanted back in Pink Floyd, the band wouldn't let him. Even as late as Atom Heart Mother.
I bet he never realized just how far away his hands are from his body. Or how weird colors are. Or how life is a mind blowing miracle.. too bad it pretty much ruined him :/
@TheChipAndSkip well he droped acid so many times that eventually it started to affect his mental state. to the point of getting kicked out of the band
Acid can be an extremely uncomfortable experience sometimes. I was always very careful dosing it. Regardless anyone who goes there never comes back the same person as they were before. Its like living a year in 8 hours.
The late sixties were a revolutionary time, because people didn't have to worry abou day to day survival. But it were many micro revolutions: the drugs, the sex, women’s lib, the gays and so forth. @mtmcb Damn right! They're hard drugs for a reason. I've been down that path and it really sucks when you come back to real life. Although it is not necessarily bad to take them if you open your mind once or twice a year. Thank god I never did acid! Shit I'm too afraid to try it.
it's not the same as other psychedelics. Ur not getting crazy visual hallucinations and you don't go crazy.
Shrooms, DMT, Salvia. Those are intense, visual, and have a "fake" sense about them. Acid just brings you closer to reality, nature, and life in general. If done safely and correctly there will be no negative side affects whatsoever.
@mtmcb so true dude id give anything to have my self back i sit here and cant tell whats real or whats fake if im really even typing right now or what it sucks to open your mind to the point were after you have to question every single step in a day
p.s. you do everyday when you go to sleep, your dreams. having visions consciously or unconsciously while asleep is technically a hallucination. also for someone who doesn't care for psychadelic trips or probably never tried it why watch or comment this and put it into a negative light?
@mtmcb you are a fucking idiot. Ive done acid over 200 times, ive done mushrooms atleast 30 times, and ive done dxm, pcp, ketamine, etc all atleast 100 times. Oh yeah did i mention i just turned 18? So fuck you. You are a fucking idiot. Take your propoganda and shove it up your dickhole.
@mtmcb LSD is a tool to see into the soul, the psyche.
Think of how you use a telescope; you point it at the stars. If you point it at the sun, you go blind.
It CAN be used responsibly and has been by more people than have been hurt by it. But it's a tool. Some people don't need to take LSD, or drink, or smoke. Maybe you're one of them.
Don't be so rash to judge what is right for each individual by what is right for you.
The Incredible String Band were at least as acid-driven as the Floyd - and probably even more psychedelic.
Syd's mental problems would probably have happened even without the drugs - the LSD may even have been a coping strategy for him (as it is for many schizophrenics).
it's not only a matter of how many times you've taken acid, or how high the dose is.. sometimes our bodies cannot stand these kind of drugs.. this happened to syd.. he suffered from schizophrenia, and the abuse of drugs made him go absolutely mad, making his illness appear when he was really young.. and it messed up his head.. he actually remained isolated from society for almost 30 years.. unbelievable
It's hard to say why some people react the way they do, and why it has permanent effects on some and not others. I tripped 20 to 25 times in my life. About 3 of those times were either anxious or downright uncomfortable. Nothing I experienced ever made me become obsessed. The last time was about 5 years ago and about 9 years before that when I used it almost regularly. I am an amateur musician, and my creations are often ethereal but not psychedelic. Syd was a true artist but also whacked!
bull shit hes not here to defend himself leave the guy alone, theres only a few people that knew him he knew the score ,if it wasnt for him we wouldnt have pink floyd or roger waters
I think he had mental problems that became more clear whe he used drugs in a large scale... very intelligent but mental illed. Brains disorder are very common but many people don't like to recognize it. And in that time it was very difficult to do it because teenagers used drugs. R.I.P Syd
don't blame all the problems on the acid use, Barrett had his vision on things and many people didn't understand him. He didn't played the saint and he truly believed in what he did and he didn't wanted to made a profit out of it like many artist were doing. He lost his faith and trust in it and left it for what it was. No wonder he went back to his family.
Syd found something out there -- beyond the realms of reality. something he could not let go of. something greater than him -- and in turn he was given the magic that was/is Pink Floyd today
saying that "he should've done this" or "he should've done that" is blasphemous. he did what he enjoyed and no one forced anything down his throat. the simple truth is that LSD takes you on a path -- a path some may not return from. Syd found something out there -- beyond the realms of reality. something he could not let go of. something greater than him -- and in turn he was given the magic that was/is Pink Floyd today.
lsd is over rated,if you want to get intouch with nature and yourself you have to eat mushrooms, they are natural, lsd is made in someones basement,so you never know what your getting, how much your taking,as mushrooms you just have to count, start off with a couple and build up to a heroic dose : D
@semiLivedj Acid is found in over 500 plants, many in south america, just as natural as psilocybin...mushrooms are great too, different for me...do enough acid and you WILL know how much you have taken...its an old friend to me...like an old baseball mitt
I had a dream I was given LSD last night by a woman and told to report my feelings. Then I came across some LSD videos today by chance, only to discover that today is the 50th anniversary of the discovery of LSD by Albert Hoffman.
LSD is it's own entity in this universe. It will find you and leave you. Help you or hurt you. Each batch has a personality. It can grow and transform. There is no chance with LSD. In ancient times certain caves leached hallucinogenic gasses. Natives of many cultures have used hallucinogens. Peyote, Mushrooms, Mugwort, morning glory, and many more. All to commune with God.
@albinosp4cemonky I should have said 67 year anniversary. I personally favor the magical door of Salvia and am afraid of trying morning glory, though no doubt I would like to talk to the Sun God personally to see what's been going down.
You can make your own google SHARM .. Also the soundtrack from Bladerunner ... Ambient .... There are also Internet Radio channels that are ambient channels.
Acid is one of these things that some people can do a few times and benefit from it cause they had a good time, but there are also those people who get really messed up by it. It can really bend your perceptions on reality. Having a bad trip usually means you just got really shit scared and paranoid, in a way your lucky cause you actually are scared of insanity and you just got anxiety. People who get really fucked are the ones who have no idea they are crazy and keep doing it heaps bit like syd
He wouldn't do anything bad. He only took too much of a substance for his brain to maintain. He was a musical genius who had no intention, obviously, of harming anything.
@loganslastday I, too, have had about 80-100 different "trips" while on LSD and can say that I had awakened creativity and the sense of inquiry that were already in me but suppressed by cognitive dissonance. .....And, .....uh......I feel better now, to say the least. Sorry to report that I've never had a "flashback" though I'd welcome it greatly. Peace to All
@loganslastday I've never done drugs in my life and am stricken with the same illness. I believe it to be from mental meltdowns that cause the illness, not drugs. Possibly there is an extra-terrestial element, such as a theory on life beyond death as being a mentally ill one.
@loganslastday Drugs are for pepole who can't handle reality. What a shamful waste of talent. If you look at any homless drug additic, regardless of what type of drug they are addicted to, they all started out just trying it or listening to foolish advide as you are suggesting. Drugs like LSD are not toys to be played with or samples on the lunch buffet to see if you like the way it taste. If you want to experiment with drugs, go to a doctor and ask him what he thinks of the idea..
it really take ones self control on mush or lsd it starts out fun the u run out of frequent flyer mles then not so fun u turn in on yourself i am still struggling with what i thought was fun stay away if u can
Anything can be bad without moderation, there are many who have fallen to psychedelics ,Syd as an example, but also there are many who have gained great things. More so than those who have fallen, as mushrooms and LSD have no physical addiction potential.
Blueskies-you need to get your facts straight..sid continued a solo career after his downfall, he wasn't as far gone as your mind would have liked him to be..do some research.
@bryciclepete Harshly said but I have to agree man, I once thought that you got all enlightnement and shit out of acid but i've seen friends that have done the same thing now they think they can save the world and shit its sent them deranged. Its up to the person but yea highly recommend not doing drugs for spirituality cause u will turn into a nut case. If u wanna do acid do it to trip balls and have a good time
peyote is euphoric and rarly triggers any worrys, lsd is very lucid powerful but controlable , but my fav is still psilocybin. its more related to DMT and is completely unpredictable and shamanic almost always is different everytime you take it and is the mysticaly intense. hopefuly ill grow some curage and take ayahuasca and go on a spirit quest. i just love psychedelics but for real why do people make peyote out to be so insanely intense just because it lasts longer lol
psilocybin is shrooms right? and i've heard of people taking shrooms then getting mentaly messed up because of it, is it dangerous to take them in your opinion?
Well Is realy grows the way than the rest of the band are just making kind of jokes with him. nobody needs to prove he was a drgadict... it's more simple he was pink floyd...
I wish I had never done it in a way. I had some intense trips though as a teen that pushed me close to the edge. Acid starting making me anxious and was no fun anymore. The most intense trip I ever had was mescaline I was in space for a while
One thing I could never understand is this glamorization of what ultimately destroyed this guy, and even Pink Floyd's continuing to glamorize drugs in their songs - the very thing that destroyed and ultimately ostracized their best friend and founder of the band. This poor guy lived his last days in pretty much a mental institution. Wow! How wonderful. Let's write songs and produce films about it!(Kind of sick when you think about it).
According to a 2005 profile by a recent biographer Tim Willis, Barrett continued to live in his late mother's semi-detached home in Cambridge, and had returned to his original art-form of painting, creating large abstract canvases. He was also said to have been an avid gardener. His main point of contact with the outside world was his sister who lived nearby. While reclusive, it was his physical health that prompted most concern, being afflicted with stomach ulcers and type 2 diabetes.
After battling diabetes for several years, Barrett died at his home in Cambridge on Friday 7 July 2006. He was 60 years old. The cause of death was pancreatic cancer but this was usually reported as "complications from diabetes".The occupation on his death certificate was given as "retired musician. He was cremated, with his ashes given to a family member or friend.... etc... please, take more information before posting comments ^^

OnclePop, Sid was basically a walking vegetable from what I have read - unable to play in a band that he started. He didn't even recognize his other band members, and this, just a few years after they had to toss him out of the group for "odd behavior". Don't give me this crap that he became this enigmatic painter after he deteriorated. My point is, for the band to glamourize something that basically destroyed their best friend is just wrong.
You got the whole concept of Pink Floyd wrong blueskies54321. The band never glamorized his decline or his drug use which caused his schizophrenia. The band basically exposed what drugs can do to an individual, it's a sort of chronological story line of his life (Syd) drug abuse and eventually his mental illness as a result of that.
Pardon me but LSD can cause schizophrenia to people who are susceptible or have an underlining predisposition to the illness. LSD can precipitate permanent psychosis in those individuals and Syd Barrette is one of those. Not all members of PF were acid tripping people. They just used Barrette experience as the foundations to their work after Syd's departure.
There is no evidence to support the claim that L.S.D. 'causes' schizophrenia. Having said that, using these drugs (even in a small quantity) often seems to precipitate a psychotic episode in people who are already susceptible to the illness. And then there are plenty of people around who have used psychedelic drugs with gay abandon who are in a sounder state of mind than most of the people who run our country. Nothing is clear cut.
That's not true at all, don't make statements like that when you have no clue. Syd was the only one in the band did a lot of acid, most of their music is not acid inspired. They were not a drug oriented band, and I can't think of a single Floyd tune that actually has drug references, apart from maybe a few early songs that Syd wrote.
I don't think they were a drug influenced band at all times either, But Comfortably Numb is about as drug referenced as a song can be.. Metaphorically or not cmon now.
comfortably numb is about when rogers fell ill as a child, and may have referenced him being on pain killers during a gig because he was sick. But it is not all about acid or anything.
I understand, but because it's not about acid it's not about drugs be serious.. Being sick is simply a metaphor for using opiates period.. The record is supposed to be open to interpretation whether it's drugs as a child or an adult is irrelevant. The song's about drugs no matter what context you place it in.
Your joking right? Do you know how you get comfortably numb? You take DRUGS. It's a blatant drug song. Roger has said so. Dave has said so. And they wrote the damn thing.
@TheJordanEllison I disagree dude they may not cause schizophrenia in particular but they can really scramble people's ideas on reality. I'm not saying this cause im a straight edge faggot i do drugs all the time and i know mates that are on the edge of sanity and its not good
uhuh,
i don't get it

@mtmcb Damn right! They're hard drugs for a reason. I've been down that path and it really sucks when you come back to real life. Although it is not necessarily bad to take them if you open your mind once or twice a year. Thank god I never did acid! Shit I'm too afraid to try it.
dnaisinmybody 1 year ago
@dnaisinmybody Acid is not a hard drug.
it's not the same as other psychedelics.

Syd was a true artist but also whacked!

don't blame all the problems on the acid use, Barrett had his vision on things and many people didn't understand him. He didn't played the saint and he truly believed in what he did and he didn't wanted to made a profit out of it like many artist were doing. He lost his faith and trust in it and left it for what it was. No wonder he went back to his family.

saying that "he should've done this" or "he should've done that" is blasphemous. he did what he enjoyed and no one forced anything down his throat. the simple truth is that LSD takes you on a path -- a path some may not return from. Syd found something out there -- beyond the realms of reality. something he could not let go of. something greater than him -- and in turn he was given the magic that was/is Pink Floyd today.

@shucky
In today's chemical world, LSD is our entheogen.

@loganslastday I've never done drugs in my life and am stricken with the same illness. I believe it to be from mental meltdowns that cause the illness, not drugs. Possibly there is an extra-terrestial element, such as a theory on life beyond death as being a mentally ill one.
philsnk 1 year ago
@loganslastday Drugs are for pepole who can't handle reality. What a shamful waste of talent. If you look at any homless drug additic, regardless of what type of drug they are addicted to, they all started out just trying it or listening to foolish advide as you are suggesting. Drugs like LSD are not toys to be played with or samples on the lunch buffet to see if you like the way it taste. If you want to experiment with drugs, go to a doctor and ask him what he thinks of the idea..

peyote is euphoric and rarly triggers any worrys, lsd is very lucid powerful but controlable , but my fav is still psilocybin. its more related to DMT and is completely unpredictable and shamanic almost always is different everytime you take it and is the mysticaly intense. hopefuly ill grow some curage and take ayahuasca and go on a spirit quest. i just love psychedelics but for real why do people make peyote out to be so insanely intense just because it lasts longer lol

Let's write songs and produce films about it!(Kind of sick when you think about it).
blueskies54321 2 years ago
According to a 2005 profile by a recent biographer Tim Willis, Barrett continued to live in his late mother's semi-detached home in Cambridge, and had returned to his original art-form of painting, creating large abstract canvases. He was also said to have been an avid gardener. His main point of contact with the outside world was his sister who lived nearby. While reclusive, it was his physical health that prompted most concern, being afflicted with stomach ulcers and type 2 diabetes.
OnclePop 2 years ago

My point is, for the band to glamourize something that basically destroyed their best friend is just wrong.
blueskies54321 2 years ago
As you can see.....everyone thinks you're a fag, fag.
TheJordanEllison 2 years ago
You got the whole concept of Pink Floyd wrong blueskies54321. The band never glamorized his decline or his drug use which caused his schizophrenia. The band basically exposed what drugs can do to an individual, it's a sort of chronological story line of his life (Syd) drug abuse and eventually his mental illness as a result of that.
Bloodline616 2 years ago 5
Drugs IS NOT what caused his schizophrenia. They simply exposed it.
Pink floyd were a bunch of acid tripping psychonauts. Of course they're going to use drugs. That's what 99% of their music was revolved around.
TheJordanEllison 2 years ago
Pardon me but LSD can cause schizophrenia to people who are susceptible or have an underlining predisposition to the illness. LSD can precipitate permanent psychosis in those individuals and Syd Barrette is one of those. Not all members of PF were acid tripping people. They just used Barrette experience as the foundations to their work after Syd's departure.
Bloodline616 2 years ago
There is no evidence to support the claim that L.S.D. 'causes' schizophrenia. Having said that, using these drugs (even in a small quantity) often seems to precipitate a psychotic episode in people who are already susceptible to the illness. And then there are plenty of people around who have used psychedelic drugs with gay abandon who are in a sounder state of mind than most of the people who run our country. Nothing is clear cut.
spuffchops70 1 year ago 3
That's not true at all, don't make statements like that when you have no clue. Syd was the only one in the band did a lot of acid, most of their music is not acid inspired. They were not a drug oriented band, and I can't think of a single Floyd tune that actually has drug references, apart from maybe a few early songs that Syd wrote.
Thill029 2 years ago
I don't think they were a drug influenced band at all times either, But Comfortably Numb is about as drug referenced as a song can be.. Metaphorically or not cmon now.
MrJLaware 1 year ago
comfortably numb is about when rogers fell ill as a child, and may have referenced him being on pain killers during a gig because he was sick. But it is not all about acid or anything.
Thill029 1 year ago
I understand, but because it's not about acid it's not about drugs be serious.. Being sick is simply a metaphor for using opiates period.. The record is supposed to be open to interpretation whether it's drugs as a child or an adult is irrelevant. The song's about drugs no matter what context you place it in.
MrJLaware 1 year ago
no, rogers himself said it's about his experience being sick as a kid, and being on stage while on painkillers when he had hepititis.
Thill029 1 year ago
Proof of Waters saying this? I've seen multiple interviews with him saying it was about his drug usage. Getting high = getting comfortably numb.
