I know for a fact he doesn't want to create a perfect society, just a free one. If we come to the conclusion of perfection it would be through unilateral thought, which is night impossible, but still preferred over someone else's forced "Utopian" society over threat of prison or at the end of a rifle barrel. If the States or local governments do this, it is not theft, because they retained the right to do so and did not delegate that power to the federal government.

Besides, Paul will be president and not dictator or monarch, many of these things will take a while and move slowly, as they move we will be more able to judge. The alternatives are so terrible it's just hard to picture someone as obviously intelligent not rallying behind Paul and helping the movement, we need all we can get. : (

At least with Paul, people like you who hold similar opinions would be able to voice those opinions and create communities, even live in one state geared more towards your ideals. My main thing, though, is his belief in decentralized authority. He wants to take power away from central government and put it in the hands of the states. From my studies of historical governments and politics, I have come to recognize one basic principle (among many): decentralized authority is poison to a stable government....

The government is composed entirely of people. The market? The state? Those are abstractions. They're just people. What makes them any more inherently capable of policing us than we are?

Your question is essentially asking whether anarchy is better at policing than government. You would really have to assume that people would exhibit the same behavior toward each other if not compelled by the rule of law. I guess, on a purely theoretical basis everyone would have to have the same idea of what is right or wrong.....
Additionally, on occasion, people would have to choose what is right over personal gain, provided they agree with you on what is right. You could argue that personal gain is right. For example, we both would agree that stealing is wrong (I assume), yet people do steal, that is a fact. Your question, as basic as it is, would take many posts to explore thoroughly.
@HuggumsMcgehee I think, though, that if you just consider all that you consider to be wrong, and also consider the fact that all those acts are indeed done, then I would say that that suggests that no, people are not indeed as capable of governing themselves as a government would be. Does this apply in the same way to the market? I think so. I don't advocate complete control of all aspects, but where some practices can cause harm to someone at another's gain......

Do that and the federal government will have more than enough money to do what the founding fathers intened it to do: Uphold the constitution and protect OUR borders. Seeing as they are currently disgracing Obama it may be time for somthing fresh in US politics. @DanFrederiksen If the federal government builds roads, hospitals, or schools (except for post roads) then the constitution is violated and taxation is theft. If the States or local governments do this, it is not theft, because they retained the right to do so and did not delegate that power to the federal government.

It boggles my mind when people write stuff like "Paul/Nader 2012." I get the feeling these people don't have the slightest clue what either of these guys stand for. They probably just hate the establishment and are willing to support whoever is not in the mainstream. Nader is a big government lib. Paul is exactly the opposite.

Besides, Paul will be president and not dictator or monarch, many of these things will take a while and move slowly, as they move we will be more able to judge. The alternatives are so terrible it's just hard to picture someone as obviously intelligent not rallying behind Paul and helping the movement, we need all we can get. : (

Without getting into all the specifics below, o can understand your dilemma Seward, but my answer would be, how can you not vote for him? At least with Paul, people like you who hold similar opinions would be able to voice those opinions and create communities, even live in one state geared more towards your ideals. That is far better than myriad restrictions squashing all. I would also mention that he follows the Austrian model which has proven sound.

I laugh at people who call congressman Paul names such as loon, nut or kook. For one, he's smarter than nearly every politician out there, 2 he's so down to earth, simple solutions to complex problems, he doesn't live in psychobabble world where words mean one thing one day and another thing the next day, 3 all he stands for and works toward is the true role of government, civil liberties, non interventionist foreign policy, the end of printing money out if thin air etc. Gee, how looney.

Ron Paul saddens me, because half of what he says, I love, a quarter of what he says, I'm not sure about, and the other quarter I really don't agree with. How do you vote for someone who has a lot of good ideas, and some potentially really bad ones too?

Now, as to your demand for what I disagree with...
One, I do believe that the market should abide by some laws and be policed somewhat.
My main thing, though, is his belief in decentralized authority. He wants to take power away from central government and put it in the hands of the states. From my studies of historical governments and politics, I have come to recognize one basic principle (among many): decentralized authority is poison to a stable government....

The government is composed entirely of people. The market? The state? Those are abstractions. They're just people. What makes them any more inherently capable of policing us than we are?

Your question is essentially asking whether anarchy is better at policing than government. You would really have to assume that people would exhibit the same behavior toward each other if not compelled by the rule of law. I guess, on a purely theoretical basis everyone would have to have the same idea of what is right or wrong.....

Additionally, on occasion, people would have to choose what is right over personal gain, provided they agree with you on what is right. You could argue that personal gain is right. For example, we both would agree that stealing is wrong (I assume), yet people do steal, that is a fact. Your question, as basic as it is, would take many posts to explore thoroughly.

@HuggumsMcgehee I think, though, that if you just consider all that you consider to be wrong, and also consider the fact that all those acts are indeed done, then I would say that that suggests that no, people are not indeed as capable of governing themselves as a government would be. Does this apply in the same way to the market? I think so. I don't advocate complete control of all aspects, but where some practices can cause harm to someone at another's gain......
