I have a lori that does this, but it is aggressive territorial behavior. Its really quite funny actually! When he wants to keep me away from MY OWN food at the dinner table, he'll puff his feathers up and start hoping around
I have a rainbow lorikeet (different subtype to that one) and that is normal lorikeet play. When they are excited, they exagerate their movements and go silly... too cute!
Yes it does seem to be a mating dance. Mimics all the "roles" of birdie fatherhood, mating (via the pelvic thrust), bathing (health), play (ridiculous interpretive dance?), and feeding a mate (head bobbing).
Or maybe I'm just taking that way too seriously, and it's just being a total goofball. Lories are like that. LOL
he needs a root :p
