I bought this movie on DVD and it's great. The writing is wonderfully funny and it's just such a good time to watch because it's so bad but they don't care and are having fun making it. I miss movies like this as opposed to the soulless, bland bad movies we have now that just stink.
"It's the shank of the evening..." I don't even know what that means, but who gives a shit? The writing in this film is so over-the-top entertaining that you just have to love it. Get out your thesaurus' kiddies, it's time for CSPWDT!!!
@mattyrich76 back then, alan ormsby, the co-writer and the star, was the one doing all the interviews for the fanzines; enough so that he was even told that everybody thought bob clark didn't exist, that bob clark was just a psudonymn, the way BILLY JACK film maker tom laughlin used a lot of names!
I saw this on TV when I was a young lad. It's a total ripoff from your usual zombie flick. It's really such a stupid film about teenagers exhuming a corpse only to mock and play with it. How stupid is that? It's entertainment.
@imbluz "total ripoff from your usual zombie flick" .. . ahhhh how many other zombie movies about a guy who digs up a dead body and marries it ( THATS what THIS flick is about ) have there been besides this film, huh? .. cause I'm certainly not aware of any. Or are you sure you've really seen THIS film ? Oh, and I must say that THOSE people look a bit older than teenagers ( THATS quite obvious from the video here ).
@Skulldini way back in 1970s fanzines, the makers of this movie themselves brought up NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD---they even thought/hoped they'd have a bigger hit than LIVING DEAD.
@Skulldini alan orsby, the star and co-writer, could be regarded as creepy, since he did write DERANGED, about ed gein.
it's been awhile since i've seen this film, but the plot does follow NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD enough, though it takes place on an island; otherwise the characters are also stuck in a small house with everybody getting killed by the end.
the 1960s THE HORRIBLE DR HITCHCOCK also had a creepy necro twist; it was even listed in a book on movie surrealism.
not putting down the movie but really i think trailers back then were way to long even showed some of the ending off all we have to do these days to make a traler is say a few words and trailer over although movies back then were better just wish the commercails didn't ruin most of the movie
I love this movie, i saw it when i was 12 i am 25 now and i love classic horror to this day. I have this movie and "I drink your blood" to thank for it.
i want to see this movie, the zombies look way ahead of their time to be a film from the early 70s, for some reason this movie looks like a cross between the original chainsaw massacre, and night of the living dead.
@jad3948 Looks like a Drive In trailer. It was probably only playing in the Drive In for the weekend they had long trailers to get people in to see it.
@Skulldini Have you seen "Brain Dead" by Peter Jackson? I think in the US it was called "Dead Alive". Excellent. Brilliant funny and creative gore-fest!
@muzboz Dead Alive is kind of an old movie now too though ( though not as old as THIS one ). I was more refering to the ones from the last ten years or so made by Hollywood .
@Skulldini Yeah. My favorite horror films are all ones with a sense of humor. Bad Taste. Brain Dead. The Evil Dead series. Check out the Australian one "Undead". Rather good and funny from about 5 or so years ago. I did think Rodriguez' "Planet Terror" was pretty awesome fun. All of these are examples of independent film, though, really. People doing stuff outside Hollywood, with their own unique vision, and their own senses of humor. I'd love to make my own one day! I have some ideas. One day!
@Skulldini ...then in that case, you wanna hold back and wait for my film! "Curse Of The Rattlesnake People"! It's in pre-production now and is made in this genre-type.
I saw this two years, based solely on the title (I read about it in the fantastic 'Sleazoid Express' book), and was rewarded amply! I'm not a zombie guy, but it was great. And I don't think I'm giving away anything by saying it veers from bizarro comedy to straight up horror...and it works beautifully!
Channel 9 (NYC) used to show this and "Psychomania" all the time in the late 70's. My brother and myself (8 and 10 at the time) knew even then these films were bad!
God....these old flicks are the best....they actual produce somewhat of a creepy factor....i mean the background music starting at 1:53 is just amazing, and there's something about that era's film/low quality look that just makes it that much creepier...I love horror movies from days past, why is no one making creepy shit like this anymore?
I saw this on a sadly now defunct independent station when I was like 11-12 years old. It was on the late-night horror movies and it was actually pretty creepy.
This movie scared me to death when I was a kid. It is a collection of completely disturbing events and images with these crazy grave robbers, you are freaked out before the zombie aspect even begins. I never bothered to see the end.
There are some who say that society is going to hell at this day and age. they forgot that the 70s was a much harsher gritter more violent time in our culture. This film shows just that.
@corm1000 im 18 and ive always been a fan of cult classic movies..i dont like my generations motto of re-making everything...but you are right the 70s was so out there..kids performing satanic rituals in the woods and do you remeber watching the faces of death? btw i havent gotten this dvd yet but im going to..its pretty sick and disturbing
I had insomnia ALOT when I was a kid and this trailer showed very late at night. I was 10 years old when this movie came out, and the trailer worried me to death.
You gotta love movies that are so bad, they're good. Unfortunately, this was just plain bad -- perhaps even worse than I remember it from my first viewing sometime in the 70s. Atrocious (but attention must be paid!). Thanks for posting it!
well as far as early 70s horror goes, this was pretty awful. all the characters sucked and talked way too much, while nothing was going on, so you can skip the first hour. but then the last 20 minutes are just a rip off of night of the living dead. the bizarre thing about the movie--aside from the fact that there are no children--is that alan has this wierd zombie fetish and you're just waiting to see if he makes love to the damn thing. yikes.

@zTiamaTz Yeah REALLY. It's a shame. The same way, there was a big budget "Lost In Space" movie (with the original cast from the 60's) planned at the time that Iriwn Allen passed away. The movie was also hindered by the passing of Jonathan Harris (Dr. Smith) and it's sad that we'll never know how that one also could have been. :-(
what i didnt understand about this movie was why didnt any motherfucker have an AK 47 and a dozen 100 round drum clips and a half a dozen rounds for a bp-15 add on ...???...
Rancho Drive-In, San Diego 1972. The theatre was in a predominantly Black and Latino neighborhood and would play various movies of all genres, including the "X" rated movie, Midnight Cowboy. My mother and I went to the Rancho in 1972 for another film and, to publicize the upcoming "Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Tbings," the ticket window gave out this black and white theatre card fold-out of 10 small black & white stills from the movie. We also saw the trailer posted here. Thanks Mom Love u
I am 44 now - but I remember seeing this on "Chiller" theater sometime in the late 1970s and being EXTERMELY disturbed by this film. It was too young to see it probably. Its much more "immediate" than anything slicker with CGI today. Be warned! - Only a sick mind could devise elements of gay necrophelia.
@PicnicHikeMusic - Holy Crap, I'm 44 too and I bet I saw it the same exact time you did. One late afternoon back in the 70s, on Chiller. This movie WRECKED me at the time. I couldn't get over that the hot chick got eaten and then that creepy ending!
I gotta say this flick has aged into a fine cheese-fest.
@PicnicHikeMusic I'm 46 and remember CSPWDT being on Chiller Theatre/Shock Theatre as well. I guess it would've been around '74 or '75, and it scared the crap outta me!! LOL!! It's one of my all time favorite Zombie flicks!! And to think it is indeed made by the same good people that brought us the family movies memtioned by Sideshowcarny!! I miss being a kid in the '70's!! LOL!! Thanx sideshowcarny! And great taste there picnichike!!

I think you meant to say the zombies came OUT, lol ;-) I go to see this one God only knows HOW many times on WOR Channel 9's Fright Night in the 1970's, and a few times on late night early 80's TV.
Notice how that one zombie got a feel off that chick in the yellow shirt when he grabbed her towards the end? Lucky ghoul! I swear man, zombies get all the luck..
I remember CN this in the 70's as a kid. OMG! this was the worst thing ever! My brothers and I was scared to death! It came on Fright Night on saturday night right after wrestling. on ch 9 in NY. Man I was scared of Orville, Orville did his thing @ the end. LOL! SMH! I was a horror freak but this one I regret seeing! LOL!
Thriller double feature,Creature Feature,Chiller,Thriller, and you can't forget Sir Grave's Ghastly and The Ghoul Shows. That stuff made watching tv worthwhile.
I was 4 when this came out and it is still one of my favorites of all time. My 1st grade teacher was friends with the Ormsbys (Anya and Alan). I adore this film! It is so campy but great! Thanks so much for posting this! I have it on dvd thank goodness (and vhs!)...LOL
The sound FX (the synthesized music they used for the dead rising) was way overused and cut down the horror of the dead rising from their graves.
2:09 brings some good atmosphere and the overall shots of the dead rising were pretty cool.
All in all had the soundtrack been more effective and some slightly better lighting, an already great movie would have been intense! As it stands, it's a cool movie :)
There was no Smedley in this film! Orville was the only corpse they brought back!

Ironically enough this movie was made by the same people who brought you such family fare as "My Bodyguard" and "A Christmas Story".

You and me both. I remember seeing this on Channel 9, late night, back in the '70's and early '80's. It's a pretty creepy movie.

@PicnicHikeMusic I think it more pedophilic than gay to be honest. Especially the voice of the narrator.

At first, this movie was kind of slow. But once the zombies came in it was fucking great!
jimbles666 2 years ago
I think you meant to say the zombies came OUT, lol ;-) I go to see this one God only knows HOW many times on WOR Channel 9's Fright Night in the 1970's, and a few times on late night early 80's TV.
Notice how that one zombie got a feel off that chick in the yellow shirt when he grabbed her towards the end? Lucky ghoul! I swear man, zombies get all the luck..

Thriller double feature,Creature Feature,Chiller,Thriller, and you can't forget Sir Grave's Ghastly and The Ghoul Shows. That stuff made watching tv worthwhile.
