Kashmiris were originally PANDITS (Kashmiri means follower of Kashyap Rishi).
Then invaders came and forcefully converted people into Islam, but some remained Hindus. Hence there is still a minority of Pandits in kashmir.
The great Jawahar Lal Nehru was a Kashmiri Pandit.

well technically you're right on this one. Kashmiri Pandits are originally from Central Asia OR Middle East. Then they settled in kashmir and became Hindus because of Kashyap Rishi- Hence, they named the place Kashmir.
Then invaders came and the majority of Pandits weren't converted into Islam until ONLY 400 yrs back!
Kashmiri pandits/Muslims are different form india and Pakistan.
Technically they have closer ties to Central Asia.
FYI, Hindu is a belief system and NOT an ethnicity.
