Palpatine (who is one of the most powerful dark force users of all time) (of all time!) could control the lightning enough to decide whether he would torture or kill somebody with it, and was just about to go from stun to kill on Luke. On Vader, he was going as full blast as he could on short notice and affected focus.

He could easily choke someone with one hand, leap impossible distances, and fight with two handed strength with only use of one arm. Picking up the feeble old Palpatine would have been no problem. Plus he needed to save his son.

90% of the "sets" from the new trilogy were purely digital, and it shows. This might look old to you, but at least the sets were convincing, and not just an actor on a green screen.

And when you get older, and kids of the day are criticizing YOUR cherished movies and calling them stupid-looking, you will know how it feels.

Looking at this again, I notice a lot of retcon issues.

Palpatine was phisically deformed by the force lightning, Vader was killed but Luke seems to have gotten off relatively intact.

Palpatine could lift enormous objects with his force powers, even more than Yoda, so how did he plunge helplessly to his death without doing anything?

Another reason why the prequels sucked.

1.) Luke throws his saber away, awesome gesture, but did Yoda mention, "Oh by the way, the emperor loves his force lightning which you can block with your saber?" Even then, Luke may have lost in a deul to the Emperor

2.) Vader could have used the force to draw Luke's saber, but that might have taken too long, and had Sidious realized it he would have immediatley killed Vader with a blast of lighting.

Also Palpatine's life was not in danger dumb shit, he could have killed Mace at any time. He was trying to get Anakin to attack Mace, therefore taking that last step to the dark side. He didn't cut loose until after Anakin attacked. Thus he wasn't using his full power then either. Looks like you need to put more thought into it.

Yet Palpatine's face was melted, and Luke walked away without a scratch. The two scenes are inconcistent. The main point is that Palpatine's face should not have been changed by the lightning.

Vader's body was so badly damaged in his first fight with Obi-Wan that he needed the suit to survive-I remember reading somewhere that he couldn't even breathe on his own anymore. Palpy's lightning fried both his suit and his body inside it.

Of course, some fans claim Vader might have made it if they stuck him in a bacta tank afterward, but I doubt the rest of the galaxy would have *let* him live after all he had done.
