i only want a min of your time from all of you Rc aviation lovers, ive developed a new website called 3FliteRc where we have online chats on all of the Rc aviation products from indoor heli's to outdoor fpv planes!
Im really trying hard to promote my new website an i hope yo can get some top tips and save yourself some money !
Curious we have MCX2's and want to upgrade to this for our next heli, can we use the controller for the SR that came with the MCX2? 4 channel 2.4mhz? thanks
I enjoyed watching your video, even the crash! I do have a newbie type question for you. I am decent at hovering and some basic outside flight. Definitely better when there is no wind and lots of open space. As I progress, can you explain the stick movements for doing forward circuit flying? Is it just forward cyclic and use the rudder to navigate with, or do you also throw in some left or right cyclic when you make the turns? It seems when I try it, my turns are different left Vs. turning Right
I have had a Walkera Dragonfly 4-1 and an Exceed RC Falcon 40 V1 for a few years now and have gotten back into flying them. I have been told by a hobby shop that they aren't really worth the time and $ and that I should get a Blade 120 SR if i rly wanted to learn how to fly. I've been doing some good indoor hovers, and some forward and backward flight (not circuits) indoors, but not that great outside with a slight wind. Should i get a 120 SR? or upgrade to a mCP X 2 or something else.
@XYZslayer well the falcon 40 is a FP heli right? If you can fly FP helicopters well enough, you may want to step up to something like the mCP X 2; however, it may be best to get a little more practice on a FP heli like the 120SR. I'd suggest getting the 120SR or the mSR X and getting a bit more practice on a quality FP heli.
@earthling1984 I really like the MCX2, great beginner helicopter. Anything from Blade is better than Exceeds best product. Exceed R/C is worthless, its a small step above walmart.
not to waste your time, could you please help me get more veiws on a future video of my 120 sr, you dont have to, but i would realy like the help, sincerly Zane :)
It'd better be a single blade to start. the coax is a huge difference from the issues of a single blade. Furthermore, your cheapo coaxes have screwed up controls, that was my biggest issues after flying all those cool little coaxes. I wish I would have never flown a coax
i just got one of these things for christmas, its really fun to fly around although its to cold for the plastic to be out side.. found that you when the tail snaped. I was wondering how many batteries shoudl i have to be able to fly it for more then like 7 mins?
I have only flown the little air hogs...should I not bother with this thing yet? I want something I can fly outdoors. I was looking at this heli as well as the Extreme-Flyers X350 (if I can find one in stock somewwhere)
Hi, Im expirienced in rc airplanes and I want to try rc helecopters. People have told me that the blade mcx is the best for a beginner. But I kinda want somthing that goes faster and more advanced. Ive flown crappy rc air hogs before so I get the general idea, would you reccomend this helecopter to soneone who hasent flown a "real" rc helecopter before?
@TheChickeneer if you have a lot of plane experience, and at least some experience with a coaxial, this may be a fine choice. just take it slow, don't try to fly this thing in circles around your room before you get the hang of it. I would actually suggest the new msr x, it's a bit smaller, but it is the new flybarless system, and smaller I find is better for indoors, since neither of the helicopters do good in any wind, the smaller msr x allows for more space indoors compared to its size.
@earthling1984 Not to undercut (earthling1984) I had plenty of experience with co-axials in the past year BUT absolutely would not recommend trying a msr x (fixed pitch) for your first heli....whoever told you the MCX is correct! just go into it slower...then move to( FIXED PITCH mSR x)...with no exp...the mSR x will get away from you very fast & cost you money in repairs & parts...If u decide to go fixed pitch first..then go 120SR fixed pitch..the 120sr is very easy to fly..in my opinion.
this is the best step up from a coaxial.........its extremly durable...as long as you cut the throtttle before you crash......its an excellent hands on trainer
@earthling1984 I've got the MCPx and a Blade 450. The CP birds are just too twitchy for me. Not what you can call relaxing to fly. You've got to stay on your toes with the CP. I'd like to have a bigger version of a fixed pitch. Can you recommend one?
@Rapierky1 once you get used to the CP's, they are very smooth, but I agree, it takes time and practice to get good at them. I know walkera makes a heli called the UFly which I believe is a larger sized FP heli of pretty good quality. I know they used to sell it on the wowhobbies website.
@earthling1984 Have you ever seen or flew the Funcoptor V2? Its a lot of money, but it looks pretty slick. I also saw where you've flown the Honey Bee V2. From your comments is doesn't sound like you think much of it?
I had the protomax for while(similar to the msr), and then i decided to step up to the blade sr, which i found was to much for me to handle, do you suggest I get the 120sr or get the mcp x as a heli for heli inbetween the protomax(msr) to the blade sr
@RCHobbiesandMore I'd say stick with FP helis for a while until you are 100% comfortable doing fast flight forwards and backwards, and also able to hover and fly in any direction. then step up to a CP heli like the blade SR.
@puffmonster689 best to start with a coaxial like the mCX or mCX2, or CX3. But this heli is what some people start with, and many people have great luck.
This thing is more or less indestructible. I've had mine for like 2 days (my first heli ever and my first rc anything in like 5 years), and I've managed at least 10 major crashes into trees, fences, our house etc (should probably go look for a more open area), and the only thing I've managed so far is to bend the tail rotor. Fairly durable, just bend it back and it works again.
In flight my blade 120 wants to rotate clockwise. I have to keep rotating it back to the left to keep the nose straight. Is that normal or are their adjustment I need to make?
Have you flown the mSR as well? I was wondering how they compare. I love my mSR, I came directly from a cheap 3 channel coax and at first it was hard to handle and seemed very wild but with some practice I tamed it. Now it's very easy, although I've only had it for a few days. I swear I get it going over 20 mph outdoors, and luckily no broken parts yet. That said I've spent a fair bit of time with rc planes and that helped me as well as understanding a fair bit about helis.
@Imprezaman555 Oh yeah and imo the swashplate "mod" to make it more aggressive is a must once you have mastered it, it makes it much more fun, that and flipping the ch. 5 switch on my transmitter which according to the manual alters the servo rates seems to have a very similar effect. I fly with both all the time.
Would you recommend this as a good transition heli from a 4ch coaxial?? I have a blade sr and that was a mistake because of experience but would this be a good step up??
i started out with a blade sr... wrong idea! i had a small coaxial and that i can fly blindfolded but can you do a video for those of us that don't know how to repair and test the helis? i know some of the stuff is simple but what about say...the main gear and the setup afterwards to get it back to flying... i went out and bought a 120sr because i had almost 60$ damage on my sr my first flight... but i learned fast there's alot of settings you can have on these helicopters!
@fishinggeek1234 sorry to hear about your misfortune, but it is very hard to transfer from a coaxial to a CP heli. I hope other people read this too. You will be very pleased with the 120sr. Being a FP heli it will help you transition back to your SR over time, and will provide enough fun and chellenge while you learn. Good luck and happy flying!
@earthling1984 i found the cp helis are hard to fly the hard way. i'd definitely love to get to know that in time but i need to learn the basics. i can't wait until my 120sr gets here since i ordered it three days ago off ebay along with 7 batteries and 3 chargers. i'm looking at the aluminum swash plate- does that do anything special or is it better to use aluminum? i know there's quite a few accessories for this. what do you recommend for durability?
@fishinggeek1234 At some point, you just have to bite the bullet and learn how to fly a CP. Going to a FP single rotor isn't going to make the leap for you.
@Ba1koolkid on a beggining u should try blade mcx2 not that , I know I tried n its for begginers thats a bit more harder to use . Remember ALWAYS BUT ALWAYS buy small helicopter n try to fly in a ROOM not outside cuz wind is gonna take ur helicopter far away n probably ur LOSE it or DESTROY it by crashing it on something !
good flight pilot. Cool sr100. I just bought a blade mcx2 from my local hobby store Willishobby's. They hook a brother up for a beginner. Probably a Sr100 is my next stop or a blade CP Pro 2. Keep it in the blade family. Peace
Keep up the good work. @ guy who's heli "leans to the right" Google TRANSLATING TENDENCY. The thrust from the tail rotor wants to "push" everything to the left, GOtta compensate somewhere. Lots of cool stuff that helicopters and their pilots do to help them "beat the air into submission.
Earthling I picked up my 120 today from local HH. I noticed that it leans to the right while hovering (tilting right) and wanted to know if your does the same thing. thanks dino
@trunksss5 alot of the time its just the servo gear, just replace the gear, saves ya time, and keep the servo as a spare. at least this is my prob, the servo gear melts or a tooth gets broke, and it sucks that they dont sell just the gear.
I want to advance to the 6ch micro mcpx but so many problems with it right now. How is yours doing? blade holders, bearing oh my. I want to learn some basic 3D with it but when sh..t falls apart without crashing that's not good. I might stick with first choice and get another 4ch like the 120sr. Would be best and cheapest for outdoor flight beginner. Cheers!!
I like to go through 3-4 batts with my co-axils can u do that with 120sr. I read that the tail motor should cool down between usages. If so, from your experience, how long? Thanks.
I agree, blade heli's are pretty durable. I also have the mcx2 and msr and they sure take a beating. Let's face it there's always gonna be those that complain and some people have more problems than others but with the cheap parts and easy rebuilds, blades can't be beat. Horizon hobby has the best customer service too.
I have the Blade cmx2 and cx2 and ready for more.......challenges! Thanks for posting these quality vids and you're right Blades take a beating and keep flying. I've broke so many cheap 3 ch helis and haven't even dented my Blades with muliple (read lots and lots of indoor wrecks) I like the fact that parts are cheap and helis are qaulity, even if there are complaints about them. Thanks
Great flight. I watched your videos on your experience with xheli.com I was wondering if you ever resolved those issues? I was thinking about ordering until I saw some of the reviews. Your input would be appreciated. Thx
Hey man, do you have to trim yours before and during each flight? Mine starts out a "0" trim but by the end of a 5 minute circuit, o have had to trim at least 3 clicks to the right... Any ideas?
@FryedBurntOut hehe, well I have many helis, but yes, the Erazor was a bad one. It just has crappy parts that make it very hard to get setup smooth. If you want something better, try an EXI kit(still not great, but better than erazor), or get a trex 250 kit and then you'll have a nice heli :)
@earthling1984 Thanks, Earthling. I just got mine patched up today- flew again, a short 180, and broke a tail support. I was trying to not damage the landing gear again, came down too slowly while flying in that semi-circle, and hit a wall. I posted to NightFlyyer that I am too impatient to just learn to hover in front of me first. Will I ever learn? LOL An Air Hogs Sharpshooter and Havoc heli only provide minimum skills for a 6 channel jump!
I've been thinking about one of these but I don't see where it does anything different or better than my Blade msr and I think the msr is a better indoor heli and likely more crash damage resistant. I'd consider the 120 SR if I didn't already have the msr though..
@bizzy420 I always set my timer for 5mins and have never hit the battery cutoff. I have never flown the nine eaglea. I would choose the eflite over the nine eagles tho
Hi, Great videos by the way. Couple questions... Did you have any issues with your 120Sr flying to the right during forward flight? If yes..How did you correct? Next question is how you you compare the novus 125 to the blade 120sr. Likes and dislikes? which one do you prefer? Thanks
@jwtpsu Hey. Yes it does drift a bit. You could use some elevator / aileron mixing to get that more straight. Well, the 120SR is a FP helicopter. I have never flown the Novus FP or 125FP, so I really can't compare them. I have the Novus CP and 125CP, but those are collective pitch helicopters, to you can't really compare the two.
@jwtpsu if both are stock, I would take the blade SR. the 125 cp is very underpowered, but it flies ok. The Novus 125 CP has more power, but still I would choose the SR. The SR is about $200, whereas the 125CP is more than that, plus, I put like another $150 into my Novus 125CP to get it flying how it flies now. So the little 125CP costs a lot more.
@earthling and Darevids trim it in as near to calm conditions, maybe spooling it up without taking off and trim against which way heli has a tendancy to move with it light on skids then when you do take off its not likely to go off in any direction drastically but you'll still need to fine tune the trim in the air. Best way is take off, get into a hover, check way its going, land minor adjustment on trim and then try again. you'll soon get her stable enough to fly
hey i crashed mine to hell because i was having issues finding the right trim settings with the factory controller. its my first more complicated helicopter. and i was wondering if you had any advice on how to trim it easily. by the way, speaking of durability, mine was completely submerged and then flew normally when i got it out of the ditch.
@georgeo4412 hey. To trim you need a very calm area(no wind at all) and you need to use the buttons on the transmitter to get the helicopter to fly pretty still in a hover(it won't stay in one exact spot, but you can get it close to that, and steady). If the trim buttons on the transmitter aren't doing enough, then you may have to adjust the linkages attached to the swashplate.
@earthling1984 Spot on there, but I will just correct you on the "no wind at all" part. You actually trim the heli to counteract the effect from the wind that is pushing your heli around. For example if there is a small windpushing your heli right, you trim to keep it in the same spot. Great vid by the way!

@taurustbolt I don't use dual rates or expo. But I would suggest maybe 10% on the rudder, aileron, and elevator for a beginner. If you want to setup a low rate, set it to maybe 70% for low rates, and 100% for high.
@brushless55 I would say go with the e-flite 120sr. They are both great FP helicopters, but the E-flite 120SR is more popular and parts are available in almost all hobby shops. It is very durable though, as you saw my crash in this video, so parts hopefully won't be needed.
@brushless55 yeah, I agree brushless and torque tube are nice, but they are really much more needed on a CP heli. Also, when you are learning, you will often crash, that is just the truth... and the torque tube on the 125CP has gears that strip/brake almost everytime you touch the moving tail to anything. This doesn't happen with the 120sr.
@brushless55 well, that depends. Sure it is 'better' in the sense that those things supposidly make the helicopter more head locking. The thing is, my mSR and 120SR hold their heading perfect, so no problem there. And like I said, any tail strike will cause you to strip the gears; not a huge deal, but some time and money to fix for every crash. This is important to consider if you are a first time single rotor pilot that will most likely crash often.
Don't tighten the blades. The Jerk is livable. If you tighten the blades your heli will start to toilet bowl out of control. They are meant to be very loose
1 year???? thts good!!!! and is not expensive at all! the issue is tht i'm from Costa Rica, you think tht should be a good idea try to get it by Amazon.com or is there any better way????
I just bought one today, seem a little to big to fly indoors. Going to test it out tomorrow. How is it flying in the wind? I have the E-Flight Blade MCX which is a micro and is to small and light to handle any wind.
@earthing1984 im sorry i just short it it means " are the", so did you used a special settings on your dx 6i? did you do a range check before flew it outside? tnx
@earthling1984 DX6i works fine, however note you might want some mixing because turning left requires pushing cyclic to front, and turning right requires cyclic to back. Otherwise, the heli does not turn on the spot, but tends to drift while you turn. You can do this using the mixer in your brain, or using the DX6i mixing functions. (The MSR, for example, behaves exactly the same, but does the mixing in the 5+1. The 120 SR does not do that.)
what would happen to the blade sr if it crashed like that?? im thinking bout getting this or mayby the sr. ive had exp with a msr. what u think i should get??
good for beginners?

@Imprezaman555 Oh yeah and imo the swashplate "mod" to make it more aggressive is a must once you have mastered it, it makes it much more fun, that and flipping the ch. 5 switch on my transmitter which according to the manual alters the servo rates seems to have a very similar effect. I fly with both all the time.
Imprezaman555 6 months ago
@Imprezaman555 Hey. I have flown the mSR. They fly very similar, almost the exact same. The 120 is just a bit larger.

@turbodiesel3500 adjust the control rods/push rods a bit instead of only trying to trim on the transmitter.
earthling1984 7 months ago
i started out with a blade sr... wrong idea! i had a small coaxial and that i can fly blindfolded but can you do a video for those of us that don't know how to repair and test the helis? i know some of the stuff is simple but what about say...the main gear and the setup afterwards to get it back to flying... i went out and bought a 120sr because i had almost 60$ damage on my sr my first flight... but i learned fast there's alot of settings you can have on these helicopters!
fishinggeek1234 8 months ago
@fishinggeek1234 sorry to hear about your misfortune, but it is very hard to transfer from a coaxial to a CP heli. I hope other people read this too. You will be very pleased with the 120sr. Being a FP heli it will help you transition back to your SR over time, and will provide enough fun and chellenge while you learn. Good luck and happy flying!
earthling1984 8 months ago 2
@earthling1984 i found the cp helis are hard to fly the hard way. i'd definitely love to get to know that in time but i need to learn the basics. i can't wait until my 120sr gets here since i ordered it three days ago off ebay along with 7 batteries and 3 chargers. i'm looking at the aluminum swash plate- does that do anything special or is it better to use aluminum? i know there's quite a few accessories for this. what do you recommend for durability?
fishinggeek1234 8 months ago
@fishinggeek1234 I think it is fine stock, I haven't had anything brake yet.
earthling1984 8 months ago
@fishinggeek1234 At some point, you just have to bite the bullet and learn how to fly a CP. Going to a FP single rotor isn't going to make the leap for you.

@Ba1koolkid on a beggining u should try blade mcx2 not that , I know I tried n its for begginers thats a bit more harder to use . Remember ALWAYS BUT ALWAYS buy small helicopter n try to fly in a ROOM not outside cuz wind is gonna take ur helicopter far away n probably ur LOSE it or DESTROY it by crashing it on something !

DerekEvilsizor 10 months ago
Thanks earthling. I discovered a lot single rotor helis do that. Still flies awesome. I really have to get a digital transmitter though.

Flybar - Destroyed by washing line
Main rota Blade (just 1) - House wall
Tail fin - Wall again
Servo - Was going to fast and when stoped it did a rocking motion so tried to correct but it wall damaging sevor (pain in the arse to change)
trunksss5 11 months ago

Cheers!!
dinkco45 11 months ago
I like to go through 3-4 batts with my co-axils can u do that with 120sr. I read that the tail motor should cool down between usages. If so, from your experience, how long? Thanks.
dinkco45 11 months ago

Thanks

FryedBurntOut 1 year ago
@FryedBurntOut hehe, well I have many helis, but yes, the Erazor was a bad one. It just has crappy parts that make it very hard to get setup smooth. If you want something better, try an EXI kit(still not great, but better than erazor), or get a trex 250 kit and then you'll have a nice heli :)
earthling1984 1 year ago
@earthling1984 Thanks, Earthling. I just got mine patched up today- flew again, a short 180, and broke a tail support. I was trying to not damage the landing gear again, came down too slowly while flying in that semi-circle, and hit a wall. I posted to NightFlyyer that I am too impatient to just learn to hover in front of me first. Will I ever learn? LOL An Air Hogs Sharpshooter and Havoc heli only provide minimum skills for a 6 channel jump!
FryedBurntOut 1 year ago
@FryedBurntOut the 120SR is 4ch :) but yes, you will learn don't worry, it just takes practice.
earthling1984 1 year ago
I've been thinking about one of these but I don't see where it does anything different or better than my Blade msr and I think the msr is a better indoor heli and likely more crash damage resistant. I'd consider the 120 SR if I didn't already have the msr though..
JaleelJohanson62 1 year ago
is this a 4 channel???
Does wind have many effects on it??let me know chief
shammad87 1 year ago
@shammad87 it is 4ch, it is a FP single rotor helicopter. Wind will cause problems, but it can handle a small breeze.

Hi, Great videos by the way. Couple questions... Did you have any issues with your 120Sr flying to the right during forward flight? If yes..How did you correct? Next question is how you you compare the novus 125 to the blade 120sr. Likes and dislikes? which one do you prefer? Thanks
jwtpsu 1 year ago
@jwtpsu Hey. Yes it does drift a bit. You could use some elevator / aileron mixing to get that more straight. Well, the 120SR is a FP helicopter. I have never flown the Novus FP or 125FP, so I really can't compare them. I have the Novus CP and 125CP, but those are collective pitch helicopters, to you can't really compare the two.
earthling1984 1 year ago
@earthling1984
What about the blade sr vs novus 125 cp? Which you your prefer?
jwtpsu 1 year ago
@jwtpsu if both are stock, I would take the blade SR. the 125 cp is very underpowered, but it flies ok. The Novus 125 CP has more power, but still I would choose the SR. The SR is about $200, whereas the 125CP is more than that, plus, I put like another $150 into my Novus 125CP to get it flying how it flies now. So the little 125CP costs a lot more.
earthling1984 1 year ago
@earthling and Darevids trim it in as near to calm conditions, maybe spooling it up without taking off and trim against which way heli has a tendancy to move with it light on skids then when you do take off its not likely to go off in any direction drastically but you'll still need to fine tune the trim in the air. Best way is take off, get into a hover, check way its going, land minor adjustment on trim and then try again. you'll soon get her stable enough to fly
Callum6939 1 year ago
excellent video and flying.. i just got the MSR and have been zipping around the house and am ready for this 120sr:)
warmidgets 1 year ago
@warmidgets very cool. The 120SR is almost identical to the mSR, just larger. You may even be ready to move up to the SR!
earthling1984 1 year ago
hey i crashed mine to hell because i was having issues finding the right trim settings with the factory controller. its my first more complicated helicopter. and i was wondering if you had any advice on how to trim it easily. by the way, speaking of durability, mine was completely submerged and then flew normally when i got it out of the ditch.
georgeo4412 1 year ago
@georgeo4412 hey. To trim you need a very calm area(no wind at all) and you need to use the buttons on the transmitter to get the helicopter to fly pretty still in a hover(it won't stay in one exact spot, but you can get it close to that, and steady). If the trim buttons on the transmitter aren't doing enough, then you may have to adjust the linkages attached to the swashplate.
earthling1984 1 year ago
@earthling1984 Spot on there, but I will just correct you on the "no wind at all" part. You actually trim the heli to counteract the effect from the wind that is pushing your heli around. For example if there is a small windpushing your heli right, you trim to keep it in the same spot. Great vid by the way!
DareVids 1 year ago
@DareVids what happens when you change orientation, hehe, then your right trim is going to make you go left twice as fast ;p

hey, i noticed you are using a DX6i transmitter...what expo / rates did you setup after the advanced swash setup? thanks!
taurustbolt 1 year ago
@taurustbolt I don't use dual rates or expo. But I would suggest maybe 10% on the rudder, aileron, and elevator for a beginner. If you want to setup a low rate, set it to maybe 70% for low rates, and 100% for high.
earthling1984 1 year ago
I'm deciding between this heli and the Heli Max 125FP
not sure what is the better heli?
brushless55 1 year ago
@brushless55 I would say go with the e-flite 120sr. They are both great FP helicopters, but the E-flite 120SR is more popular and parts are available in almost all hobby shops. It is very durable though, as you saw my crash in this video, so parts hopefully won't be needed.
earthling1984 1 year ago
@earthling1984
having parts at a store close by is a good thing with the 120SR
I do like the brushless factor with the 125FP and the torque tube
?????
brushless55 1 year ago
@brushless55 yeah, I agree brushless and torque tube are nice, but they are really much more needed on a CP heli. Also, when you are learning, you will often crash, that is just the truth... and the torque tube on the 125CP has gears that strip/brake almost everytime you touch the moving tail to anything. This doesn't happen with the 120sr.
earthling1984 1 year ago
@earthling1984
its better to have a single motor with a torque tube driven tail with its own servo than a tail motor on any heli this size and bigger
I've flown many helis and I'm looking for an indoor outdoor heli of this size
this one is cheaper though over the 125FP
brushless55 1 year ago
@brushless55 well, that depends. Sure it is 'better' in the sense that those things supposidly make the helicopter more head locking. The thing is, my mSR and 120SR hold their heading perfect, so no problem there. And like I said, any tail strike will cause you to strip the gears; not a huge deal, but some time and money to fix for every crash. This is important to consider if you are a first time single rotor pilot that will most likely crash often.
earthling1984 1 year ago
@earthling1984
like I said, I've flown many helis and therefor rarely crash, and the tail gear is fairly cheap
the 125FP comes with several spares and no tail motor to burn out
brushless55 1 year ago
Don't tighten the blades. The Jerk is livable. If you tighten the blades your heli will start to toilet bowl out of control. They are meant to be very loose

@robpogi69 I have no special settings, just binded, trimmed, and flew.
earthling1984 1 year ago
@earthling1984 DX6i works fine, however note you might want some mixing because turning left requires pushing cyclic to front, and turning right requires cyclic to back. Otherwise, the heli does not turn on the spot, but tends to drift while you turn. You can do this using the mixer in your brain, or using the DX6i mixing functions. (The MSR, for example, behaves exactly the same, but does the mixing in the 5+1. The 120 SR does not do that.)
