There is NO soul. Soul is just a mistranslation of the word " life" in hebrew. Replace"soul" in bible texts with " life:" and it will make much more sense. The soul is supposedly created at conception. So all those spontaneously aborted fertlized human eggs(millions upon millions) all those little pure souls down the toilet, down the drain, What a shame. !!
The idea that souls sleep is ridiculous. The idea that souls go to heaven and then go back into their bodies at a future second coming is ludicrous. Souls either unite with the Spirit and receive immortality or they perish. The second coming is not literal and the Catholic church did not always use the book of Revelation.
As with many subjects, the bible is contradictory on this subject. 1 Samuel 28:15 refutes soul-sleep. So do NDEs and psychic's contacting of the 'dead'.
Christ taught. The spirit lives, Luk 16:22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
Luk 16:23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
and John confirmed it. 1Jn 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe

ie "The soul that sins will die". From the standpoint of reason - would a loving God create an immortal soul? NO! It is only necessary to annihilate stubborn wickedness. Our spirit is at rest in a place prepared of God, awaiting Christ, to open the book of life. It is a place below the alter of God, within the kingdom, which encompasses all. The hidden things are revealed to his children who seek truth. When you deny your old sin and its temptation this demonstrates your repentance, for your soul is a witness of your flesh. concerned with the dead, but with that which is now alive. Walk in truth to live.

Are you sure about what the soul is? Is the soul not of God, the immortal breath of life given to man, that separates us from animals, and is immortal in its full potential, created in the image of God? onetruechurch. I am a protestant and I agree with what you are saying about the immortal soul. I disagree with his doctrine. Read...
John 8-56-58
56Your father Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day; he saw it and was glad." 57"You are not yet fifty years old," the Jews said to him, "and you have seen Abraham!" 58"I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I am!"
Also, to believe his (bible or traditions) doctrine, you would have to believe that Jesus "I am" ceased to exist for 3 days. To claim that divinity ceased to exist is error of the highest order. When He called himslef "I am" that described his eternality.
Many translations use the expression I Am both at John 8:58 and Exodus 3:14. But do both texts express the same thought?
No. We know that they do not because at Exodus 3:14 the Greek Septuagint Version (the translation that was often quoted by the apostles in the first century C.E.) reads, e·go′ ei·mi′ ho Ohn′, I am the Being. This is quite different from the simple use of the words e·go′ ei·mi′ (I am) at John 8:58.
For example, An American Translation reads: I existed before Abraham was born! That text in itself says nothing about how long Jesus existed before Abraham. But Trinitarians reason that it means that Jesus has existed eternally.
Also in 2 Corinthians12:2-4 Paul is speaking about himself here when he said...
2 I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven. Whether it was in the body or out of the body I do not know—God knows. 3And I know that this man—whether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, but God knows— 4was caught up to paradise.
How could the Apostle Paul not know if he was in spirit or body if he believed that his spirit could not be out of the body?
After reviewing what Catholic writers have said regarding such texts as 2 Maccabees 12:39-45, Matthew 12:32, and 1 Corinthians 3:10-15, the New Catholic Encyclopedia (1967, Vol. XI, p. 1034) acknowledges: In the final analysis, the Catholic doctrine on purgatory is based on tradition, not Sacred Scripture.
There is no dichotomy division of body and soul in the Old Testament. The Israelite saw things concretely, in their totality, and thus he considered men as persons and not as composites. The term nepeš [ne′phesh], though translated by our word soul, never means soul as distinct from the body or the individual person... — New Catholic Encyclopedia (1967), Vol. XIII, pp. 449, 450.
Comparably, the life-force returns to where it came from—God. (Job 34:14, 15; Psalm 36:9) This does not mean that the life-force actually travels to heaven.Rather, it means that for someone who dies, any hope of future life rests with Jehovah God.
Spirit refers to an invisible force (the spark of life) that animates all living creatures. The body needs the spirit in much the same way as a radio needs electricity—in order to function. Similarly, the spirit is the force that brings our body to life. Also, like electricity, the spirit has no feeling and cannot think
Consider: why would Samuel's spirit come forth to a practicer of Witchcraft, when God condemns witchcraft? - Deut 18:9-12; 1 Samuel 28:11. Why does God condemn spiritism? Spiritism is connected to wicked spirit (demons) As we know imperfect humans can make impersonations, how about wicked Intelligent spirit creatures?
The spirits were not disembodied souls but disobedient angels; the souls here referred to were living people, humans, Noah and his household. What was preached to spirits in prison must therefore have been a message of judgment.)
What does 1 Peter 3:19, 20 mean? In this state [in the spirit, following his resurrection] also he [Jesus] went his way and preached to the spirits in prison, who had once been disobedient when the patience of God was waiting in Noahs days, while the ark was being constructed, in which a few people, that is, eight souls...- Comparison of 2 Peter 2:4 and Jude 6 with Genesis 6:2-4 shows that these spirits were angelic sons of God that had materialized and married in Noahs day.
A persons entrusting his spirit evidently means, then, that he places his hope in God for a future restoration of such life-force to himself through a resurrection.—Compare Nu 16:22; 27:16; Job 12:10; Ps 104:29, 30.
That there be an actual and literal transmission of some force from this planet to the heavenly presence of God is not necessarily required. Even as the fragrant scent of animal sacrifices was spoken of as being smelled by God (Ge 8:20, 21), God could gather in, or could accept as entrusted to him, the spirit or life-force in a figurative sense, that is, without any literal transmission of vital force from earth. (Job 34:14; Lu 23:46)
The Bible shed light on Acts 7:59, it is evident that Davids statement at Psalm 31:5, quoted by Jesus at the time of his death (Lu 23:46), Into your hand I entrust my spirit, meant that God was being called upon to guard, or care for, that ones life-force.
For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised up incorruptible, and we shall be changed. (1 Corinthians 15:51, 52) Clearly, not all chosen ones awaiting Heaven are asleep in the grave awaiting a resurrection. Those who die during Christs presence are transformed instantaneously.—Revelation 14:13.
How can their souls, or blood, cry out for vengeance, since the Bible shows that the dead are unconscious? (Ecclesiastes 9:5)
Like the blood of righteous Abel, the blood of these Christian martyrs is crying out for justice. (Genesis 4:10)It was not that Abels blood was literally uttering words. Rather, Abel had died as an innocent victim, and justice called out for his murderer to be punished. Similarly, those Christian martyrs are innocent, and in justice they must be avenged. (Luke 18:7, 8)
Since the soul [or, life] of the flesh is in the blood, what is really represented as being at the foot of the altar is the blood of faithful servants of Jesus who were slaughtered because of their bold and zealous witnessing.—Leviticus 17:11.
The apostles own releasing (a·na·ly′sai) to be with Christ at his return and the Lords releasing (a·na·ly′sai, Lu 12:36) of himself from heavenly restraints to return as he promised. In no way is the apostle here saying that immediately at his death he would be changed into a spirit to be with Christ forever. Such getting to be with Christ the Lord will first be possible at Christs return, when the dead in Christ will rise first. - 1Th 4:15-17.
Isn't that different from the Roman Catholic church present position on the matter: The New Catholic Encyclopedia notes regarding the Catholic view: Theology today approaches the problem of hell from the angle of separation from God. Pope John Paul II said in 1999: Rather than a place, hell indicates the state of those who freely and definitively separate themselves from God, the source of all life and joy.
Ezekiel 18:4 Is a great scripture for consideration. John 5:29 reads "the resurrection of judgment. " Condemnation is really an assumption. With cross referencing and some research it can help us to see God mercy in allowing a resurrection of unrighteous ones a chance to repent or sins and covert and follow God.
The Bible usage shows the soul to be a person or an animal or the life that a person or an animal enjoys. To many persons, however, soul means the immaterial or spirit part of a human being that survives the death of the physical body.
As well, respectfully, the term soul (Heb: ne′phesh, Gr: psy·khe′) and spirit (Heb. ru′ach and Greek pneu′ma) terms in both Biblical Hebrew, and Biblical (Koine) Greek. (Gen. 2:7; Gen 9:5; Rev. 16:3)
Respectfully, doesn't that seem redundant? Flesh and blood cannot enter the heavenly realm. 1 Corinthians 15: 36, 50. And according to the Bible God has already chosen some to live in the heavenly realm (Hebrews 3:1; Matthew 22:14; 1 Peter 2:9, 10; Revelation 20:6) Do all enter the heavenly realm? (Psalms 37:29; Matthew 22:14)
It would seem that you are the one making a category error, no BOT. This is common even in Evangelical circles. They make the mistake of thinking the 'spirit' and 'soul' are the same things. The 'soul' is simply what a living body is when it has the spirit (ruwach), or breath of God animating all living, breathing things.
Gen.2:7 tells us that a living human is made up of TWO things: body+spirit (breath of God). These two things combined make a living soul. So when a person dies, the two things (body+spirit) are separated (Eccl.12:7). The 'soul' is no more, or, rather, is in a state of 'sleep' until the resurrection. The soul is not something that has existence in and of itself. This is Platonistic philosophy, not biblical theology. Luther and Tyndale both touched on this subject when debating purgatory.
Eccl.12:7 supports the position of BOT. But you seem to think that the 'spirit' and the 'soul' are the same thing. They are NOT. Spirit= 'ruwach', and means a 'wind' or 'breath'--in the context of a living person, it is the breath of God in them that animates the body.
Soul= 'nephesh', and means a breathing creature. Nephesh (soul) is what someone IS when they have 'ruwach' (breath of God, spirit). When one dies, the 'ruwach' returns to God, body to grave. No consciousness in death.
Regarding purgatory my friend, After reviewing what Catholic writers have said regarding such texts as 2 Maccabees 12:39-45, Matthew 12:32, and 1 Corinthians 3:10-15, the New Catholic Encyclopedia (1967, Vol. XI, p. 1034) acknowledges: In the final analysis, the Catholic doctrine on purgatory is based on tradition, not Sacred Scripture. The church has relied on tradition to support a middle ground between heaven and hell.—U.S. Catholic, March 1981, p. 7.
Additionally, after ones death, is he or she still subject to further punishment for his sins? Romans 6:7: He who has died has been acquitted from his sin.

Spirit returns to God. That is the Breath of Life that returns to God.
The Soul is a combination of the Body + the Breath of Life = Soul.
If you take away the Breath of Life - you get death.
This video is not convincing.
No food for thought with this explanation but only confusion, OTC uses half scriptures ,parables and prophetic language in the wrong way.

Proverbs8 2 years ago
The verb ei·mi′, at John 8:58, is evidently in the historical present, as Jesus was speaking about himself in relation to Abrahams past.

It is an impersonal force. But without that spirit, or life-force, our bodies expire, and back to their dust they go, as the psalmist stated.
JosherForder 2 years ago

JosherForder 2 years ago

JosherForder 2 years ago

The 'soul' is simply what a living body is when it has the spirit (ruwach), or breath of God animating all living, breathing things.
rkg62976 2 years ago 3
Gen.2:7 tells us that a living human is made up of TWO things: body+spirit (breath of God). These two things combined make a living soul. So when a person dies, the two things (body+spirit) are separated (Eccl.12:7). The 'soul' is no more, or, rather, is in a state of 'sleep' until the resurrection. The soul is not something that has existence in and of itself. This is Platonistic philosophy, not biblical theology. Luther and Tyndale both touched on this subject when debating purgatory.

we adressed this in the video series. thanks
