  • SHIT! This is really a great job! The gun's sound could use some work, but you've got every other element of this genre nailed. The odd angles, close-up of the face, single lighting source source, the shadows on your face, the "no non-sense" facial expressions, and even the "method acting" style with the cigarette and whiskey!

I kind of also wish there was a little bit of music to accompany this, but the fact that you didn't include a track allows me to fit in my own dramatic music!

  • This is an outstandin work of art and a perfect tribute to film noir! Keep it up :D

  • I go to a performing arts college and we just started a film project. I'm directing a film noir piece that has to be 2 mins long too. This has really helped me understand that it can be done thank you!

Also, we watched this in our studio with our performance sound eq and on a big screen. The end made everyone shit themselves. Well done :)

  • @MrAaronWomball Awesome! That was my intention- to have it sound like a REAL gunshot. Good luck with your film noir

  • Really promising. Great job

  • Good job. The only things I would change is use older actors and use a .38 revolver instead of an automatic. Otherwise, good one. I liked it.

  • This is the best film noir movie ive seen on youtube so far. I am also making a film and i chose actual film over digital. The quality is much butter with film.

  • @TheMovieCountdown I appreciate the complement. Its great to know that there are others out there in Youtubeland who appreciate the beauty of film.

  • Nice......but for dramatic effect I would have had one more close-up shot, held for a few seconds, on each character at the end before he is shot, just to add to the tension.

  • I would love to learn how you did the lighting and iris levels.....

  • Was this 16 or Super 16mm? (Nice job by the way)

  • @TK42138 Its standard 16mm.

  • This is one awesome short film!. I am now getting into the film noir genre after watching this. The cinematography is wonderful :) All I can say is the sound effect you used for the gun shot could of been abit more realistic, maybe used a sound of a gun that was used in the fim noir era (1940's - 1950's)? Apart from that the film is awesome! :)

  • Really good short film, I am actually a junior in film school and my capstone is going to be a Film Noir. Love seeing others appreciate the genre. Geek side of me, next time think of adding something to the fluid so it doesnt just look like water lol

  • where did you get the wardrobe for this? is it cheap?

  • This is really great lighting. I have a similar project coming up in my Cinematography class and our genre is film noir. I'm kinda looking forward to it now. Nice job.

  • Awesome video, I love the shadows and overall the camera in all scenes...love the title as it goes great witht the theme in more than one sense....for sure one of the best short videos I've seen. The actors are great, excellent facial expression and attitude....Keep it up dude!

  • really amazing work, Love the dark and the light. Good job on the cigarettes and the jack Daniels haha

  • 2:29 Jimmy Cagney reincarnated?

I must say, this looked really good. Great job with the lights and camera.

  • Awsome, like the twist, thought it was a detective noir. Great job!

  • Great job.

  • The bottle and the glas around 1:12 and precisely that small sound you've mixed in.

    Good Work

  • nice job boys

  • @TheLordTantalus Thanks very much. I appreciate the comment.

  • THe sound is pretty good its REALLY nice to see something with diagetic sound instead of score.

  • @siyndrome Thanks dude. Music does tend to be used almost exclusively with films shot with silent cameras. I just felt that the diagetic sound could build a mood/drama that would compliment the visuals and tell a better story,

  • Were starting our film noir c/w for AS level now so i searched and found this. By far the best i've seen! The costumes were great and the lighting and shadows were excellent! camera shots were appropriate and i loved the shot of the whiskey bottle! great job :P

  • @kimitara Thanks! I'm glad you appreciate the smaller things.Good luck on you're project.

  • @Blackhardt72 no probs, you deserve the praise :P haha our teachers have taught us to appreciate every minor details in films :L

thanks :P i hope it can turn out as good as this x x

  • Cool. Loved it! You did a great job setting the mood with lights, costume and props.

  • Good Job.

  • @al2i Thanks

  • I love it! One minor nit... the whiskey looks like water, WAY too clear... iced tea might be a better choice for bottle filling in B&W or color. But otherwise, that's excellent! (btw this is Rick C.).

  • @arkaycee Yeah we actually used apple juice, which looked decent in color, but unfortunately looks clear when rendered in B&W. But thanks for the ice tea suggestion! Sounds like an awesome substitute.

  • Nice, and totally faithful to the genre. Loved the way the light reflected off the whiskey bottle. Nice job with the foley too.

  • @BillCullenNet Thanks Uncle Matt! Glad you liked it.

  • Suggestion: the audio's pretty soft, so you might want to crank up the volume.
