Chopin said it was "musical rubbish". Of course Chopin was totally wrong when he said this. I don't know if he ever changed his mind or if it was just his mood at the time. Chopin was moody according to many people who knew him personally (Karl Mikuli etc.) Maybe he heard a bad performance of it.

@jdbrown371 You might want to check the souce on that quote.Mendelssohn and Chopin were actually fairly good friends, and both held the other in high esteem.Mendelssohn thought very highly of Chopins piano playing(Tho he felt that Chopin had trouble with larger forms)and tho Chopin was rumored to have said that some of Mendelssohns compositions were "mediocre",I think you can hear some of Mendelssohns influence in Chopins Nocturnes. Also,he did teach Mendelssohns pieces to his pupils.
i love mendelssohn so much. why people critisize him? he is endowed with incredible gift for natural melodies. the emotions just flow out with ease.

The only bad thing about the piano part is that it leaves no room for me to turn the page! :)

@logodaedally And turning pages is the pianist's nightmare!
