I beleive it's due to the fact rogrammmers didn't anticpate people flying above the screen and thus didn't add any "solid" textures, you can have similar issues on Wario Ware and Green Hill, getting stuck UNDER the stage

lol if you have low gravity,bunny hood and your tiny. be someone who can stick to walls go to shadow moses island. stick to the wall and then jump off of it. then don't go by the walls or you'll fall. you stay up there for a long time! oh, and if you do go by the walls you'll some times go behind it and get stuck. even when the walls are up! its awsome!
