Among the worst mecha on my list is the Bound Doc from Zeta Gundam. Actually I consider just about every Titan suit from Zeta Gundam to be bad, but the Bound Doc is the worst of the bunch, so consider it representative. First is the transforming aspect: becoming more aerodynamic doesn't make your craft more maneuverable IN SPACE. Second, what's the point? Third, verniers can only conceivably work when they cover the entire armor, NOT when they're concentrated beneath it (if even there).

Ah you suck. You had no valid points as to why the mechs are good or bad. Tallgeese was a great mech that was about on par with a gundam. I'd do a list like this, but I know too many mecha. Waaay too many. Like Alteisen, Aussenseiter, Dygenguard, Soulgain, etc. Those four are from the Super Robot Wars Anime/Game franchise. Shining Gundam, Burning Gundam, Rise Gundam, Master Gundam, etc, from G Gundam. Wing Zero, Deathscythe, Epyon, Etc, from Gundam Wing. I know too many mechs....

GaoGaiGar was a homage to 70s Super Robots, gleefully using stock footage. ZZ had a low budget, supposedly.

Tallgeese is pretty damn accurate to what speed like that would do to a person.

The EVAs... Well, nobody knows when the cybernetics end and where the cloned Angel starts, so there's dispute over weither those count as mechs or Kaiju-in-mech-cosplay. Plus, the cable is needed to make sure they don't go Berserk/The Beast.

Zechs really should have wore a g suit when piloting Tallgeese.

It had four rocket engines that probably came off some sorta SSTO space shuttle.

Tallgeese was able to fly to orbit using drop tanks and a carrier plane.

If the engines were in the same thrust class as the SSME you'd be talking about 800T of thrust pushing a robot that probably only weighs 60T.

It would pull something like 13.3g.

Well, technically, EVA unit 01 does not need a extension cord after it consumed the S2 engine of Zeruel. The cord is equipped anyways for safety purposes. The cord is probably the Eva's only weakness. It's not like some overpowered mech like the Strike Freedom, which is perfect in practically every way that it's boring to watch. (Unlimited beam spam, illogical ideology, nuclear energy, etc).

Gundam: Number #1 on the BEST list. Why? Wing has that answer; "IT'S A GUNDAM! AGGGGGH!" **Death**. Tallegeese was so fast and insane on the acceleration because it was the prototype for every mobile suit afterwards. This includes Wing Zero and it's ZERO system.

But one thing

Evas are not robotic, they are clones of Adam, or in unit 01's case, Lilith. Therefore the umbilical cable is necissary ti control the Eva. The reason Unit 01 was frozen was because they couldn't have and Eva be able to funtion on it's own, it would be far too dangerous. So, basically what i'm tying to say is, the umbilical cable is a method of control, not a restriction. Anyway, the evas never need very long.

If Unit 01 was in it's "god-form" or if an Eva had the S-2 engine (like the mass produced Eva's) probably, but it wouldn't survive against most reliable mechs if the Eva needed the power cord.

The opponent would only have to concentrate on cutting of it's power and just survive 5 minutes before the Eva went offline.

I wanted to see Gunbuster/Diebuster on the list... Least you had Gurren Lagann.

voltron didn't make my list of top mechs, nor did big o, as much as I liked the series. Gasaraki wasn't mentioned and I liked them even though like the evas they needed constant maintenance, but come on noh dancing and mechs in the same anime! Otherwise, the list was startlingly insightful. I also happen to like the Lancelot from code geass. Lastly I agree phoboskitty in that there were no macross mechs mentioned, even if the first macross series was dark and depressing it had sweet mechs.
