Another video that once agains reaffirms why I am such a huge supporter of our friends to the north...as an American I would go to war anytime to defend or fight beside Canada.....I see you all just as my own.....much respect to your veterans too.
The atrocities committed by the politicians of our empire were felt on all allied sides and sicken me, I lost 32 members of my family in WWI out of 41 that participated. The complete and utter lack of organization of our combined forces lead to the massive casualties of up to 50,000 a week. If I ever reach a rank where I have command over sizable numbers of British or commonwealth forces I swear to all I will not repeat the failures of these men. I offer my thanks to Canada on behalf of the UK.
@mak34237 50,000 per week, er, not sure that if right as britain/empire's total loss was 1million dead and 2.5 million wounded over 4 years.
As for the generals, well, it's easy to judge in hindsight. At the time, they had the political and public support of the nation. They had to attack to remove Germany from France, and had no air superiority or tanks to start with until these were developed. War is costly, as the soviets found out in ww2. That said, i take your point.
@THthefirst - Hear that re. the generals. A number of them were incompetent officers who had been promoted far faster and far further than they would ever have been in a peacetime army. However, given the nature of the BEF's expotential expansion in the first year or so of the war, they were all that were available at the time. Fortunately, there were enough who were sufficiently competent to eventually deliver victory.
Thanks for posting this and my respect for Canadian, British, French, German, New Zealands, Australian, Austrian, Italian and American soldiers who gave their lives at this fierce and mad war

I came across this documentary tonight when I was looking for a song I must say even though I'm not Canadian as an American I always respected Canadian soldiers but seeing this film has greatly deepened my respect for Canadians I found this story truly inspiring. Thank you very much for taking the time to post it and share it with us.
Deeply moving...if I was part of that group that travelled to these war fronts, remembering my great grand-father`s commitment...I would too tear-up remembering. Thanks for post this moving series.
