Beautiful singing, horrible imagery, the worst of Hollywood: this fake playing the piano while lip-synching, the lady and the girl holding on to each other and the maid as the audience! Anyway, thanks for posting, thanks for the music.
I have the record of Riccardo Martin doing this aria (cut 1910) but fine as that is Melchior does it here with even more spirited singing. I get nothing but positive thrills & endorphins watching this video. Thank you for posting it!!!
Yes this is such a cool video. Not only for Melchior's gorgeous voice, but also for the contrast between the proper 1950s atmosphere, all traditional and proper and genteel, and the the aria he sings, from an opera where a brother and sister can't keep their hands off each other. I doubt the nice lady at the end of the video has any idea what the Walkure is about! :D
It's good for opera you just care for the singing and the orchestra, Most people don't hae the slightest idea what they're watching. it's true if they made now a film with any "Ring" theme it would be considered obscene. Not only brother and sister but also Sigfried with aunt Brunhilde, etc. etc. These magnificent works are "holy horrors". Enjoy them and dont try to find out what's going on. It's refresing to see lovely Jane Powell in her prime.

@minnie888444 Indeed that makes it surreal as Melchior shouts his Winterstürme

tossing off a Wagner aria just for fun!
how many singers can accompany themselves like that?

Schön gesungen und nix gegen den Melchior. Dennoch: Ist das eine Inszenierung von Neuenfels? Besser kann man die Nazis gar nicht inszenieren.
