  • ... almost perfect but still not the best ... I hate encoding hahahaha

  • I m encoding right now I hope it wroks it's been three days messing with the settings and none of the tutorials helped so far except for one but the file was over 500 M for 2 minutes of video ><

  • when I upload to youtube it has a black border... followed instructions... 1080x720... why?

  • @SheedsEnterprises Its 1280x720 not 1080x720

  • @Yelnuts71 thanks!

  • NICE! Thanks for the detailed listing! I'm wearing professional studio headphones, and the audio still holds up!

  • is the file size supposed to be very small? i used your codec settings and the file is tiny... is it supposed to be that small?

  • thanks for the tutorial. it took me a few tries but i finally got it :D

  • what about cs5?

  • thanks, this proved very helpful

  • Thanks a lot man. This helped me a lot. Going to try to upload my video now see if the quality remains high on youtube :D. 5/5 stars and favorited.

  • When the camera pans from left to right I notice the video is shuddering. Is there a way to avoid this?

It looks fine when the video frame is not moving.

  • These setings only work for certain cameras...

  • You can get the same quality for way less size. I have 6minutes videos on my other account that only took 100MB and look very nice in HD!

  • @mainmenu895 how do you get the file size that low?

  • This video is great, BUT! What if you are trying to put up an HD 1208x720 that is 8 to 9 minutes long. It goes over the CRAP rules of youtube, that you can only use up to a gig. Well at this compression type I have 2.5 gigs and it can't be longer then 10 minutes. Im ok with the time, 10 minutes is great, but not for HD. Whats the best compression type to not exceed 1GB but keep those 9 minutes of video...

  • its 2 gigs now.

  • i need fast tip i have done work on premier on some avi clips they are uncompressed quality now i wana export them in the maximum quality possible with sound too ,,

my work area was pal 720 x 576 ,so wat format to export ! for nice quaity with nice size not over like 4 giga?

  • Try the same codec. Keep everything the same except the frame width and height, and fps (I think PAL is 25 right?). See what you get.

  • well am trying to export allll same but i cant find how only think i can see it microsoft uncompresed avi as i worked on avi um compressed to when i export its not working ,,, mayeb try quicktime?

  • Thanks, that was helpfull.

  • So why wouldnt you set the pixel aspect ratio as the 1.333 HD option?

  • Because you only do that if the resolution is something like 1440x1080, the 1.333 means it stretchs the 1440 by 1.333 times which makes it into 1920. If the resolution already is 1920 x 1080 that ratio is 1.0 so it dosent need to be stretched

  • Every tutorial on YouTube lists different settings... I've been having som serious trouble finding one that works..

  • Been looking all over for this information. Thanks so much. Trying right now (10 min HDV vid)..fingers crossed!

  • same settings for CS4?

  • One small thing: Don't put a fixed frame rate like '29.97'. Find the average rate by looking at the frame rate of each of the clips in your video. NEVER put a frame rate different than the original's. That's what makes HD videos so slow.

  • Good point! +1

  • Could you further elaborate on the process of finding the average FPS? Thanks.

  • Basically find the mean.

Add all the frame rates, then divide it by the number of clips in the video.

  • Wouldn't the median be better?

  • In some cases it might; but it depends on how different the frame rate in each clip is from another.

  • Maybe you, or someone else can help me out with the problem I've had for the past few months. My video camera doesn't record files in a format supported by adobe premiere so I have to compress them with virtual dub. What codec should I use to make it to where it doesn't take 2 hours to render the files? It's really bothersome and makes even short projects take forever.

  • Thanks a lot - I'm gonna test this now with a 4minute video - taking a while to code :p

  • Which size do your exportet videos have with these settings? One minute of motion-video?

Do you have any idea what kind of codec I have to choose and how to calibrate it, if I want to receive small, but "HQ" files like those Apple HD trailers have?

Greetings from Germany and sorry for my english ^^

  • What the hell...I use these exact settings but the apple loseless codec at 32KHz dont work for me....Anyone got an alternate to the audio issue?

  • You're wasting time uploading if you encode at higher than 2Mbps because YouTube will downgrade your vid to its specs...the dreaded YouTube re-encode.

The max for audio I've seen is 248K.

Download this video for yourself, check its specs, and you'll see what YouTube did to it. Have fun. =)

  • YouTube finalized their HD audio settings (they were still deciding back in January)...they are now limiting audio to 128Kbps again.

So anything uploaded higher will be converted down, FYI.

Also it appears 1000Kbps bitrate for video is now the lower limit for the 'watch in HD' link to appear...that's for music channels using still pics. Test as needed.

I noticed this because all my vids are HD and one was under 1000K and it appeared as HQ. I had to redo it.

  • Thanks a million!

  • Good job! Thank you for sharing!

  • have you seen your own video if you add this code after the video link ? &fmt=22

  • This was extremely helpful. Thanks!!! I've been going nuts over what settings to use and this worked immediately out of the gate.

  • Wow, incredibly useful - thanks!

I've just spent about an hour trying different export settings in 'export movie'. I guess I still have a lot to learn about Premiere!

  • does it require quicktime pro?

  • Does what require QuickTime Pro? Let me know exactly what you mean. I'll try to help.

  • i think he means that do u need QT pro to do use this codec and stuff..

  • yeah thats what i was trying to say but my reply never posted!

  • I believe QuickTime licensed their code to Adobe so by installing Adobe Premiere Pro CS3, you get QuickTime Pro H.264 encoder. If you don't have Premiere, check out a free software called MPEG Stream Clip by squared5.
