Good review. Would have liked to see the stove fired up. Looking @ the numbers, it is quicker than the Traniga. ALthough my Trangia has the lid and simmer ring, I hardly ever use it. I don't know of anyone that sells them in Australiathough. Will have to look about on the et and see.
Too bad Evernew went through all the trouble and forgot two key items the Trangia has:
- A threaded cap/o-ring. With this, the stove holds its own fuel ready at any given moment. You can put it in your pocket to keep the stove and fuel warm on cold days and cap any unused fuel.
- Simmer ring (self explanatory). Also serves as a snuffer cap.
Evernew makes some outstanding products but this one fails for the above reasons.
@machbaby In all fairness to Evernew, it's not a Trangia :). Personally I don't like to store fuel in my stove, since there is always the possibilty of leakage. As with any alcohol stove, with experience you learn to use just the amount of fuel you need. As far as a simmer ring, as I stated in the video, by placing the cookpot directly on the stove the cooktime is drastically slowed (just like a simer ring).
Not that I need another stove, but this is pretty neat. Very Trangia-like. I went to Evernew's site and they having a potstand called the Ti Cross Stand, but no details on it. Guess they're not finished with producing it yet. It would be a handy stand for my old Trangia.
@Rick2Max It all depends on what setup you're using. The Dx stand puts the turbo plate a little above the stove, then the pot about an inch to and inch and a half above the plate. The new cross stands aren't out yet, but they look like they are about 1" tall, so 1" is probably about right.
@backpackinonline I am going to be out on the Black Forest Trail (Pa.), and I will be shooting part of my review while I'm there. I hope to have it done soon.
@hexclimber The Dx sets will be available in 2-3 weeks and are only available throught Evernew's dealers. I have them on preorder, and as soon as they are out you will be able to get them at End2End Trail Supply.
Nice, detailed review. I was hoping for a slightly better boil time, but it's not bad. The Whitebox stove is definitely faster coming in at a little over 5 minutes for a roiling boil for two cups of cold water in my tests.
George, do you have your own bench boil time of a White Box stove? The white box is my favorite alcohol stove over the 4-5 alcohol stoves I have purchased in the last 3 years. I would like to know how it compares to this new Evernew stove.
@wildgene66 No I haven't bench tested the whitebox, but I made a knockoff a few years ago. The whitebox type stove will boil water much faster, but it isn't as fuel efficient.
The DX is shown on Evernew's website now, but it seems odd to me that there's no link to their "dealers"... at least I couldn't find one, and apparently you can't purchase directly from them either...

@earlymusicus The cross stands should be out any time now. I'm hoping by the end of the month.

I'm guessing this would have good crush-resistance as compared to the pop-can/cat food can variety of stoves too...

@hexclimber Well, it is welded together, so I would guess so too. For the cost I'd rather not try it out though :).

Nice Review. I'm going to pick one of these up once they start selling them as the complete set with windscreen.
