  • I like it more than the other albums, but it's because is better for my taste

  • this album is so mediocre. they're first album is the shit though

  • some great songs in this album, great work in production but singer voice is very coldplay-ish then so boring.anyway they could become great in the future

  • I would say this is a typical indie situation...Like what FOALS did.

They had their first album, which was full off power and it was damn fast..Than they move over to playing slow, artistic indie music... It's a thing that happends when band actually really know what they're doing without relying on someone elses opinion. So I would compare them to what FOALS did. Maccabees had their great first album, devolped and are now more secure on what they are doing + the artistic way of revealing it.

  • and I know he mentioned Foals in this video. Just had to share my opinion, haha.

    btw: I LOVE this album

  • I'm a big Maccabees fan but I have to say your review was exact thoughts on this album. Still a grower but not the album I was hoping for. Good work again, Anthony.

  • spot on bro.

  • Did you ever review Mozzaratti before? I'm hoping it's the vgm/orchestral Mozzaratti you're talking about.

  • i must say that this is a really fair review. being a HUGE maccabees fan, i was ready to bitch and moan after reading the video description before listening to what you had to say in the video!! much appreciation for critiquing their other albums too

  • Thanks for the review!

  • definately not agreeing with the 5/10, review tribes - baby next!

  • bloody fantastic album

  • Maccabees kinda departed too far from what I was comfortable with. too bad :(

  • Will you review the upcoming Die Antwoord album Ten$Ion?

  • oh and u were generous with a 5

  • i thought this maccabees record was dreadful, maybe 2 or 3 memorable tracks, too many tracks that sound the same and im really disapointed

the 1st 2 albums were amazing, but this is just dross, and i was really excited for this release, so it was a huge crushing blow. pelican is clearly the stand-out track but it doesnt represent the album at all, infact its more similar to the last album

    HAVE A NICE DAY!!!

  • great review, captured my sentiments exactly! i felt they we're being really...cosmic, kinda overkill on the reverb to produce these lofty, epic sounds and create this vast landscape to ponder profound thought in, but in turn was a rhythm disappointment...i thought pelican was the best song, unfortunately it wasnt as prophetic as i hoped it would be...it was introspective rather than irreverent like the first two releases were, but i see the trajectory of their sound that led up to this album

  • yesssssss, you review it! god bless you needledrop, ur doin god's work, bc god use to be a music critic

  • Well, I guess if you're not going to review A Flash Flood of Colour by Enter Shikari, I can at least hope to hear Cal try to pronounce it in Y U NO REVIEW

  • hey anthony can i borrow a dollar. Just until tommorrow

  • Interesting review thanx.

I am loving the new smoothed out relaxed sound from The Maccabees and Given To The Wild is a fabulous album. 'Forever I've Known' being my favourite track (go check that out) I'd give it a strong 8 to a decent 9 IMO.

Thanks for reviewing a British Indie band!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, we need more indie/guitar music reviews out there.

Anthony watch out for 'The Spectors' newie this year, would love to hear a review or track review maybe.

    :-)))

  • do porcelain raft's strange weekend or sharon van etten's tramp

  • I understand the maccabees don't want to make the same type of album as the first two and I do like this album but I think too many bands similar to the maccabees are trying to make albums worthy of winning the mercury or something. Leave that to elbow and pj harvey and make music that is better live and more easier to listen to instead of trying to make something that needs to be listened to the whole way through when there are alot more bands better at doing it.

  • anthony, i noticed how you always review albums and refer back to their earlier albums, usually saying that they are better. i was wondering, how come you dont just do abridged discography reviews for some bands that have been around the black that have released a new LP.

  • I have to agree, like The Arctic Monkeys, their old stuff is a lot better than their new stuff. If it's not broken, don't try to fix it.

  • MAN, WHAT HAPPENED? I WAS LOOKIN' FORWARD TO THE CHUCKLE AT THE BEGINNING:/

  • Enter Shikari - A Flash Flood of Colour! :)

  • can we expect why you no review for january?

  • Please review the new Del tha funkee homosapien mixtape :)

  • Great review, though I loved this album much more than you did. I get what you're saying about the album losing its form for atmosphere a good chunk of the tracks, but I actually like that. It's like a flow of immensely soothing energy going through me.

  • Loved this album, if I wanted 'colour it in' I would just listen to 'colour it in.' Although I do agree with the over polished sound I still didn't get bored once. Just amerced myself in the atmosphere and sat back.

  • Alvin Band - Rainbow Road

  • leonard cohen !

  • Please review apparat - the devil's walk. It's quite experimental, maybe you will like it.

  • Please review The 2 Bears -- Be Strong.

  • Yet another fantastically watchable review, thanks for reviewing this. I'm a massive fan of the first two albums, but I can only agree that this doesn't live up to them. Thanks again.

  • Considering I absolutely LOVED Total Life Forever (And I was a massive fan of their first), I might like this album production ;)

  • kid cudi brake track review

  • Errors - Have Some Faith In Magic. It's excellent and really deserves a review.

  • This album is a piece of shit, generic garbage. They should of stuck to the energetic music they became famous for. It's annoying when bands change their sound, bait and switch. Hopefully "this town needs guns" gives me my dose of fun when their new album comes out, even after the departure of their lead singer.

  • Review Attack Attack! - This Means War

  • review LUSHLIFE - NO MORE GOLDEN DAYS

  • review something weird interesting and unheard of.

  • please review some electronica! please please please.

  • no laugh today. another sad day.

  • WOMEN!!! :D they need to bring something out soon.... ahh that album was so good.

  • @lcboo9 you haven't heard... they broke up

  • @gingerrokker They're on hiatus, that's not the same.

  • @MoonchildMindaugas2 i wish it wasn't true either man, but I think "hiatus" just came out of their management's optimism. Saw Chris playing with the Dodos, Pat with Fels Naptha.

  • @gingerrokker Oh, ok. I just am not interested in the band so much, so I don't follow, but I remember seeing the word hiatus next to them.

  • Crippled Black Phoenix - (Mankind) The Crafty Ape.

a genuine adventure of an album. spacey, classy modern rock at it's finest.

  • What's the lp hanging up on the door called?

  • Please review the new Enter Shikari!.. Here's hoping you can appreciate their British arrogance, so many American critics just don't get it :/

  • I hated this album, they fucked over the drums in this album.

  • Porcelain Raft - Strange Weekend. It sounds kind of nice.

  • Stinky Pits-Jamribo

  • Review Matt Elliott - The Broken Man

  • I am interested in your thoughts on the new Nada Surf album. Great review as usual by the way!

  • I definitely understand what you are saying, but in my opinion, this is exactly what I was looking for out of the Maccabees. After listening to their last two LPs quite a lot, I was ready for a slower, more polished album. This album just clicked with me. I suppose that's the beauty of music. Another great review by the way.

  • Please review Pontiak - Echo Ono. I know I've posted that before but the internet teaches me that only repetition can make an impact. So please review Pontiak - Echo Ono.

  • Enter Shikari - A Flash Flood Of Colour

  • i love when he does all the weird shit with effects etc

  • we have band - ternion

  • I'm extremely grateful, you reviewed this! Great job, I vary much respect your opinion thanks man :)

  • Review Errors - Have Some Faith In Magic.

  • You should review Enter Shikari - A Flash Flood of Colour. If not that, I'd love to hear your opinion on Common Dreads - although it's a bit of an oldie now, I feel it's a soundtrack to the Occupy movements which was released two years too soon.

  • @thomo1888 I can't stand NME, one minute they llove a band and the next minute they hate them.

  • Just bought a Renault through this vid, hope they give you some commission.

  • review new Errors album ' Have some faith in magic'

  • soo grateful you reviewed it, but i disagree with you

  • Thanks for reviewing this man.

  • Trust-TRST. Do it please.

  • Typical NME always hyping things up that are never as good as promised

  • @thomo1888 actually the maccabees are pretty good despite that terrible hype from the NME

  • @thomo1888 I disagree,this album was amazing.

  • @maalbe987 True but those are legit genres, not a scene made up by a magazine to quench the thirst of Camden teens

  • If you need a copy, physical or digital, just get in touch.

  • Review the Richard Papiercuts - A Sudden Shift LP. You're always stressing the importance of giving the spotlight to new, current releases...well here you go! Not only is it R. Papiercuts first full length, it is also the very first release on the newly formed Pena Records. CAN'T GET ANYMORE FRESHER THAN THAT. And trust me, it's monumental stuff. A future classic maybe. You'll love it (if not, I'll fight you ;-).

  • of Montreal- paralytic stalks

  • could you reveiw Damien Jurado's new lp please. Maraqopa. thanks man!

  • I find it hilarious when the user suggestions backfire into a negative review. But seriously, Colour It In is a great album. Most British indie rock bands nowadays soften up to get a bigger audience after their debut album. Kind of a sad trend.

  • @moeezS but in a lot of cases it works, the horrors second album was the best thing theyve ever done (and will do) and foals second album was way better (even though I absolutely loved their debut), wild beasts second album was waayyyyy better than their first. only time it didn't work was with the maccabees, their second was poor and this wasnt that much better imo

  • Good analogy, Skying was sooo different from The Horrors' previous work

  • This is the first reviews that I have disagreed with you. I thought it was an incredible album!
