@ni9ht5ta1k3r Runs perfectly on my asus Eee pc 1005P. Infact is ridiculasly faster then windows 7 starter + it has all the features microsoft claims to have disabled becouse of preformance issues. Ubuntu rocks :-D
it would be nice if dell advertised linux a little more (even a decent link on the main page would do ) because it seems that you try to hide it :P heck if i go to the desktops or laptops section of the site ubuntu isn't even on the OS selection list
I once had Win7 ultimate on my netbook (AAO with 160GB HDD, 1GB Ram and an intel atom CPU) nad guess what: it ran worse than I'd imagined. After that I've installed Kubuntu on it and now it runs perfectly. I don't see the point in the netbook remix or this moblin stuff: It's a computer and no mobile phone!
@sk8li Why would you want anything else? You can download movies, music everything using torrents...... or usenet if you know a few things. You can do any homework assignment with open office. You can play some games like old snes games.... I don't understand what you don't like about it...... Hell you can even crack wifi networks with a few tools on these puppies...Way better than and ipod touch, in my opinion.
@sk8li talk to me. What do you want to be able to do? Get movies? music? Do homework? This puppy can do all of that. It's not so much the OS but rather the Apps that make a difference. Do you understand what I mean?
ubuntu is THE greatest OS ive ever used except that it has problems with hardware drivers...i couldnt get my wireless card to work...i put it on my desktop and realized its not simple to share files like it is with windows...its a shame its so obscure, cause its REALLY neat.
wonderful for me. don't forget to check out forums for any problems you are having. a new operating can be intimidating to learn, don't hesitate to ask questions either.
Ubuntu? Windows? Just install OSX. The hardware's perfect for it. The shit Dell puts on your machines is just a waste of HD space. Install OSX. Much better than whatever you can get running on the thing.
I don't think it is explicitly illegal to do so, but it is illegal to install it using a torrented .iso file. If you use a bought Snow Leopard DVD, and installed it using the Vanilla way, it is in violation of the Apple EULA only, to my own knowledge.
Wow. I am really disappointed in Android after seeing it on the Mini 10v. What I saw on the HTC Hero was pure awesome, but what ever I just saw today looks terrible.
i want a laptop that can go on youtube, myspace, facebook, photobucket, ustream and stuff like that.i want it to run fast and have a good webcam. Can anyone tell me what laptop i should get?
Because ARM machines can't natively run MS Windows. A lot of Mini 10v netbooks will end up running MS Windows XP and Dell can't ignore that huge crowd. Try to give the decent machine for a movable price to the widest possible audience to reduce costs. I suspect they're already playing around with a Mini ARM prototype "just in case" things change for rapid release. Their point was that it can run varies OSs making the trade offs more palatable. Besides, this thing can even run Mac OS X (w/tweak).
how hard is it to make it into a tablet pc. you can buy screen overlays that one can buy why not use that to make a tablet pc. The UI on these netbooks are perfect for finger operations. Dell SHOULD JUST DO IT BEFORE APPLE DOES IT GOD!!!!
You must have done something wrong. I have it running on my Lenovo S10 and it runs so much better than XP did. Heck I even have it running on an old Sony Vaio desktop with a Pentium 4 and 1GB ram. Beats XP hands down.
Weird. I have an Ideapad S10e running Windows 7 and an old Sony Vaio with a P4 2.2 and 1 GB DDR running Windows 7 as well. Additionally I have an old Dell, P4 1.8 GHz with 512MB DDR successfully running 7 as well.
You actually showed us a 10v with a botted Android environment - no big deal. You could have shown how it actually works on 10v, even if it works bad atm.
Android in a laptop? Why would a user want it? I would prefer a fully working GNU/Linux system wich actually has tons of software.
It would be a very good idea to create a standalone application for Dalvik's virtual machine, so users could run android apps the same way java apps do in desktops.
I don't know much about Android but it sounds like you are just describing a distro.
Politely correct me if I'm wrong, but a distro is a collection of software, all designed to do different tasks with the Linux kernel at its heart.
Could Android be considered a distro because it does run off of the Linux kernel, even if thats the only thing it has in common with a distro like Ubuntu?
Android IS Linux. Simply because it runs a Linux kernel, it makes it a 'Linux'. Other things would be GNU/Linux, which uses the GNU tools plus the Linux kernel.
It's just as you said, it has different graphics and such.
Linux doesn't have to be the fact of running GNOME or KDE. As KDE can run even on Windows, and GNOME has no plans of being cross-platform.

Android is not Linux.
Android is a Linux Kernel running an entirely new implementation of graphics, windowing, libraries and almost anything else you can think of.
Android wouldn't be Android without Linux, but it's not a Linux itself.
