  • Ubuntu and Android rocks :-D

  • does it works on my dell mini 1010??

  • ugh, i hate hp's UI's.

  • would love to know if ubuntu 10.10 would work well on the netbook?

  • @ni9ht5ta1k3r Runs perfectly on my asus Eee pc 1005P. Infact is ridiculasly faster then windows 7 starter + it has all the features microsoft claims to have disabled becouse of preformance issues. Ubuntu rocks :-D

  • I'm still wondering where my android distro that fully works from dell is at

  • he mainly want to tell people it works with osx, but dell doesn't have the balls to announce it due to apple law.

  • it would be nice if dell advertised linux a little more (even a decent link on the main page would do ) because it seems that you try to hide it :P heck if i go to the desktops or laptops section of the site ubuntu isn't even on the OS selection list

  • Dell sucks.

  • How would you put android on a netbook?

  • @ipodguy30 Why would you put android on a netbook? that's the question !

  • I once had Win7 ultimate on my netbook (AAO with 160GB HDD, 1GB Ram and an intel atom CPU) nad guess what: it ran worse than I'd imagined. After that I've installed Kubuntu on it and now it runs perfectly. I don't see the point in the netbook remix or this moblin stuff: It's a computer and no mobile phone!

  • does the wifi work on the android one?

  • I wish I had Dell Mini 10 with Ubuntu NR but they don't ship to Kosovo

  • @alketrexhepi So, download an ISO image and burn it on a CD!!!

  • Yep ubuntu netbook remix owns!!! But to be honest I rather use Win 7 starter edition on my hp mini 210.

  • my school gave all of the frshemen students this computer with ubuntu but no one likes ubuntu any1 know how to unistall ubuntu

  • @sk8li Why would you want anything else? You can download movies, music everything using torrents...... or usenet if you know a few things. You can do any homework assignment with open office. You can play some games like old snes games.... I don't understand what you don't like about it...... Hell you can even crack wifi networks with a few tools on these puppies...Way better than and ipod touch, in my opinion.

  • @sk8li talk to me. What do you want to be able to do? Get movies? music? Do homework? This puppy can do all of that. It's not so much the OS but rather the Apps that make a difference. Do you understand what I mean?

  • ubuntu is THE greatest OS ive ever used except that it has problems with hardware drivers...i couldnt get my wireless card to work...i put it on my desktop and realized its not simple to share files like it is with windows...its a shame its so obscure, cause its REALLY neat.

  • ubuntu will problably be way better then android will ever be.

  • im installing ubuntu on my netbook right now :) is it a good os?

  • wonderful for me. don't forget to check out forums for any problems you are having. a new operating can be intimidating to learn, don't hesitate to ask questions either.

  • @PeopleHidden:

It is. It use it at home and find it very easy to use, as well as fast and stable.

  • I'm sure he really wants to talk about OSX on 9 & 10.... but that's illegal! lol

  • @task514 actually its not illegal if you purchase the operating system and you stick an apple image to the box, literally LOL

  • Ubuntu? Windows? Just install OSX. The hardware's perfect for it. The shit Dell puts on your machines is just a waste of HD space. Install OSX. Much better than whatever you can get running on the thing.

  • problem is with this lame reply... ITS ILLAL TO INSTALL MAC OS X ON A LAPTOP THTS NOT APPLE!!!!

  • I don't think it is explicitly illegal to do so, but it is illegal to install it using a torrented .iso file. If you use a bought Snow Leopard DVD, and installed it using the Vanilla way, it is in violation of the Apple EULA only, to my own knowledge.

  • @foxh8er:

I think you may be right

  • nahhh.

    Apple sucks too.

  • if the hardware was perfect, the audio would work

  • it does sucked dude

  • Intel graphics SUCK! can you make one with nvidia or ati? something with a little more performance would be awesome

  • Why would you want advanced graphics on a netbook? It's not made for gaming.

  • buy an alienware

  • ...then format your HD's and partitions...and install Ubuntu!

  • Wow. I am really disappointed in Android after seeing it on the Mini 10v. What I saw on the HTC Hero was pure awesome, but what ever I just saw today looks terrible.

  • HTC added their own UI to it, just like they do with windows mobile, but android is much better

  • too cool mini 10 v. I've bought one for my girlfriend :)

  • My mini 10 have just arrived :D 2gb ram and 250 hd

Does somebody what to watch a review? I can make one :)

Now it works with win 7, and i'll also instal ubuntu..

  • We'd love to see your thoughts on the Mini 10. Make one and upload it here, then add it as a video response.

  • @IBSORIANO Forget Win 7

  • 10v vs the new n140? I'm not sure what to buy.

  • Doug enjoyed your few words, intelligently put forward cheers

  • i want a laptop that can go on youtube, myspace, facebook, photobucket, ustream and stuff like that.i want it to run fast and have a good webcam. Can anyone tell me what laptop i should get?

  • Nice, a Mini with Ubuntu. I'm buying one right now.

  • Android is a linux kernal from google

run mac os x out of box too!

  • snow leopard?

  • I don't get it, Android and Ubuntu works better on the cheaper ARM processors, why do you use Intel?

  • Because ARM machines can't natively run MS Windows. A lot of Mini 10v netbooks will end up running MS Windows XP and Dell can't ignore that huge crowd. Try to give the decent machine for a movable price to the widest possible audience to reduce costs. I suspect they're already playing around with a Mini ARM prototype "just in case" things change for rapid release. Their point was that it can run varies OSs making the trade offs more palatable. Besides, this thing can even run Mac OS X (w/tweak).

  • make it a hackintosh :)

  • how hard is it to make it into a tablet pc. you can buy screen overlays that one can buy why not use that to make a tablet pc. The UI on these netbooks are perfect for finger operations. Dell SHOULD JUST DO IT BEFORE APPLE DOES IT GOD!!!!

  • i didnt see the Android running!!! Geez

  • It's the machine on the left. He intros it at 1:02 in the video.

  • Intel 945... Sh1t Inside

  • But can it run Tux Racer (the greatest video game ever created) and outdated clones of Quake?

  • Would have liked to see Windows 7 on one of these, its apparently is lightweight enough for these netbooks.

  • i had it on my aspire one 110 it was terribly slow it took so long to de the simpilist of tasks

  • You must have done something wrong. I have it running on my Lenovo S10 and it runs so much better than XP did. Heck I even have it running on an old Sony Vaio desktop with a Pentium 4 and 1GB ram. Beats XP hands down.

  • imo aspire one 110 sucks a lot.

  • Weird. I have an Ideapad S10e running Windows 7 and an old Sony Vaio with a P4 2.2 and 1 GB DDR running Windows 7 as well. Additionally I have an old Dell, P4 1.8 GHz with 512MB DDR successfully running 7 as well.

7 is a great operating system.

  • I may have to pick one of these up now.

  • You actually showed us a 10v with a botted Android environment - no big deal. You could have shown how it actually works on 10v, even if it works bad atm.

  • Brilliant!

  • Android in a laptop? Why would a user want it? I would prefer a fully working GNU/Linux system wich actually has tons of software.

It would be a very good idea to create a standalone application for Dalvik's virtual machine, so users could run android apps the same way java apps do in desktops.

  • Android is Linux.

  • Android is not Linux.

Android is a Linux Kernel running an entirely new implementation of graphics, windowing, libraries and almost anything else you can think of.

Android wouldn't be Android without Linux, but it's not a Linux itself.

  • I don't know much about Android but it sounds like you are just describing a distro.

Politely correct me if I'm wrong, but a distro is a collection of software, all designed to do different tasks with the Linux kernel at its heart.

Could Android be considered a distro because it does run off of the Linux kernel, even if thats the only thing it has in common with a distro like Ubuntu?

  • Android IS Linux. Simply because it runs a Linux kernel, it makes it a 'Linux'. Other things would be GNU/Linux, which uses the GNU tools plus the Linux kernel.

It's just as you said, it has different graphics and such.

Linux doesn't have to be the fact of running GNOME or KDE. As KDE can run even on Windows, and GNOME has no plans of being cross-platform.

  • I agree, Android is Linux, it is not Gnome or KDE hence why some people think it's not Linux.

  • Is it a touch screen?

  • Are there any Android x86 image ready to run a test-drive via usb-drive?

  • I think the coolest thing Android can bring is access to Android Apps! Toss in a GPS and you can get pretty fancy with Google maps and navigation.

  • Nice to see Android running nicely.

Hope Dell make it official as 3rd OS option!!

  • looks good, now just provide these non-Windows options to all countries and not just a select few.
