I am cooking slow cooker corned beef all day today and will try your white sauce recipe tonight to go with it, my last attempt prior to watching this video tasted very floury, so I think I can understand how to do it now! Thank you, and I'll tell you how I go :)
@boscoshoeb Nutmeg is a spice that comes in the form of a nut. You can grate it fresh or but it ground. Please do not let the lack of it deter you from making this. It will be fine! Thanks you for stopping by!
you can also add browned crumbled sausage and make sausage gravy. Or shredded cheddar and jack cheeses to make cheese sauce. Or add cinnamon, sugar, and spiced rum to make a dessert glaze. Is there anything bechamel sauce can't do?
I was making some white sauce and after a point it ended up like at 1:00 and I thought I did something wrong... until I watched this video (turns out I hadn't added enough milk),
Ah, old fashioned Bechamel sauce. I remember my mother making it for her lasagnas. She was mixing some heavy cream in it at the end. Thanks for posting.
I am a grad of Le Cordon Bleu, When we made it we used half a white onion, cloves and a bay leaf to give it flavor. I know there are lots of variations this is just one that I learned to do. Thanks for the video.
Would you please tell me how long I can keep WHITE SAUCE in the fridge if I want to prepare it in advance in order to save time and use it when needed?THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO .
@jawad384 You are welcome! Thank you for coming by. I would not keep this for more than 2 days. Also, you will probably get a thick crust on the top. If this happens, go ahead and remove it before you heat it up. Do not mix it into the sauce. Good luck!
Hey!! I was hoping you could help me out. I was wondering what kind of flavor Nutmeg adds? I have it but I really am at a loss for what kinds of things I can put it in. Are there flavor complements to nutmeg I should know about? Any advice would be great!! Thanks!!!
@Radjehuty Hi there! I use nutmeg in this sauce, some cookies and on egg-nog. Nutmeg has an earthy, woody, cinnamony taste. It compliments many things. I hope this helps. You will definitely use it a lot at Christmas time in cookies and desserts. Some people like it in their coffee.
I've never heard of using Nutmeg. I've been to culinary school. The Tradition classic white sauce is flavored with salt and white pepper. Then when you make your cheese sauce, you add a hint mustard powder and cayenne pepper.
@Yargbarg123 Thank you for coming by. Fortunately, not all culinary schools are exactly the same. Imagine how boring that would be! A little nutmeg in your white sauce renders a great result. Have a great week!
Can the nutmeg be replaced by something else? It's a spice i personally never heard off and i don't know where i could find it. This looks really good and easy to do! I'm going to try it with cheese and pour it on coliflower.
I'll be looking up more of your recipes for sure! :)
I was wondering how many this serves if being made with pasta, I need it to serve four and was pretty much guessing the measurements at the start would be four people :)
@MickieJamez I personally used 1 Tbsp of Extra virgin olive oil and another 1 Tbsp of that fake butter from a tub (Probably margarine?) instead of pure butter and it came out great with some granulated garlic and italian herbs
I am a little concerned about the flour (Cornflour is ok right?) going lumpy when I cook it though. Is it possible to mix the flour and milk first and then cook them together?
@twobrOs678 You could do that, sure! I have a video on pasta & shrimp with Alfredo sauce. That is made with half and half and lots of Parmesan cheese. Check it out. Have a great night and thanks for coming by!
thank u mam 4 showing step by step precedure..i made it b4 but my mistakes were i had raw flour smell, and it was thickened...this sauce is very much popular in Bangladesh and available in every fast food..again thank u so much ...1 last question..how long can i preserve this in the refrigerator?
