Oh for goodness sake!!.....Yassur does this all the time. It's been playing for tourists for many many years. It's called mild strombolian activity. One of the safest (as long as you don't get in the crater with it!!).....Active volcanoes in the world.
If I could drop everything and go to Tanna now for a holiday, to see yassur from the top, .....I jolly well would!!
Yasur is also one of the most accessible Volcanoes too. Drive right up to the side of the volcano in a 4WD and walk about 200 metres to the rim. There are no legal disclaimers to sign, no tourist shops, no safety equipment required, just the raw beauty of nature to enjoy!
umm turkey, I am not retard. I study the stupidity of human beings showing off on the scale of trying to impress people thus making a fool. I have seen people on movies get killed. However people who gamble by going up to the mountain to see if its going to blow, THAT person is a retard. Would you go in front of a Kodiak if he is coming at you. Answer that for me Please
Why would anyone go near the mountain when its going off with lava? I think the guy is a retard anyways, I feel that the USGS needs to let him go due to careless work. people who work for USGS needs to alert the public and get the civilians out of the harms way. The pyroclastic cloud can and will turn humans unto burnt chicken meat and kill without mercy.
retard? NO... a crazy... perhaps... but not a retard.
Anyway, why doesn't USGS evacuate people.
Well, the problem is faith, danger level, and money.
You can't evacuate people if the situation is truely not life threatening even if it may later. You have to hit that sweet spot of dangerous but not dangerous enough that its possible to evacuate people safely.
If you do it to early... people will lose faith in your predictions and if something Is going to happen, they won't believe you.
And when it does, well... Its so horrific I don't want to even mention it.
To LATE... and it will be obviousily to late. So its a doomed if you are doomed if you don't situation with a very small margin of error.
Anyway. The other thing is money. A government is not going to hand you the money to evac people if you aren't 100% damned sure that people need to evacuate at a specific time and date. And they probably won't give you anymore if eruptions turn out like this one... mild.
well to let all know, the ancient Volcano names paisano in West Texas. It used to be active, Now its extinct. somehow, the road travels straight through the caldera. This scares me to know this. I want to share this with everyone. This is located in South west Texas.
I went there 2 weeks after some Japanise tourists fell in it (no they didn't survive!!). Stayed in a treehouse with a full clear view of Yasur, and listened to the monster roar all night. What a beautiful place, enlightening experience, gets the adrenaline running thats for sure! Excellent footage too!! :D
Absolutely awesome video. I've been to Tanna and Yasur ... stood on the rim and looked down into the "belly of the beast". A completely awesome experience and only served to further my love of volcanoes, and my respect for the power of Mother Nature. Unfortunately we were there during the "quiet" period of the year, so no spectactular eruptions like you captured here, but still, looking down into the crater and seeing lava bubbling around was rather awesome.
I agree with dazau! Then again, this guy is referring to himself as Bartmankid. Seeing Mt. Yasur was one of the highlights of my travels AND my life! Love your footage!
Yes we were right on the rim! No camera tricks here. It's not a Hollywood production. (or a survivor production - where they showed the volcano as if it was right in the background where the "survivors" were staying when in reality it was about 200km away on another Island!)
Yeah, I'm 100% with dazau on this one. Perhaps if you'd go travelling and experience new things and research your info on volcanoes more then maybe you might understand them more. To go round calling people names is out of order. I've climbed 5 volcanoes before, 3 of them were active.
Very good video. Towards the end I noticed a number of people standing around looking chilly. When I visited Yasur (October 2003) the answer to that was lie on the ground for a while! Plenty of heat seemed to just leak out - another demonstration of Nature's power even if less showy.
Yes it gets quite cool at night but you can just lie on the ground and keep warm. But the ground is quite rocky with rugged volcanic rocks everywhere.
YEs, I can highly recommend it! I have seen Yasur (level 1, mostly small fountains, bigger bangs every 15 minutes or so), Etna (ash, lava fountains & lava flows) & others. Much more interesting than a tame artificial fireworks display!

Yasur is on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu, South Pacific. Between Australia and Fiji, just east of New Caledonia.

U go with a local who read the wind and so on.
If a bomb flies at you, you just step to the side.

Some good volcano action there - it was level 2 when we were there - so a little less active, but we got closer.
