This is so deep, brilliant, meaningful. This is proper U2, not that sweetest thing/beautiful day nonsense they seem obliged to make (and there are more) to keep the masses happy. Their B-sides contain some of their best stuff!
For those of you wondering what is this song about, it narrates the migration movements of Arabs living in Europe and moving back to their north African countries for holidays. I live about 300kmts from the Bay of Cadiz they talk about in the song, which is the main Spanish door to go to Morocco by car ferry. When you listen to this song while driving in the highway, and see them with their old cars crowded with stuff and family, the whole thing makes sense. Brilliant and stunning.
@JelitoBoba , No, this song is probably about Fez, Morocco, where they did some recording for No Line On the Horizon, and they got plenty of inspiration from Morocco and Africa. Hope that answers your question.
I hear a lot of Pink Floyd on PRR, and The Gloaming is uncannily like U2's Do You Feel Love (try them together) Maybe we should call them rip-offs? But since Otto has mellowed his cry of rip off to 'inspiration', I too will be charitable.
Expect the unexpected... and i love them too much not to let them search the globe and have unique experiments in their music to their heart contents... :)
the intro is very interesting. not bad but just interesting. not what i would expect from U2 and exactly what i would expect. they are a very brilliant band.
@Xalira06 can't think of a song in particular but if you listen to pure reason revolution you'll hear the similarities. Even when the guitar and drums come in it's typical of PRR
If its a complete rip off of something else, it helps to be able to name what is being ripped off. Otherwise you dont know what you are talking about.
@genzoman Well the album in general has really obvious inspiration that's all I'm saying like Stand Up Comedy sounds like a Led Zeppelin track and No Line On the Horizon sounds like a Kings Of Leon track that's all I'm saying

Lights.. flash past
Like memories
A speeding head, a speeding heart
I'm being born, a bleeding start
The engines roar, blood curling wail
Head first then foot
The heart sets sail
IN MY 35 YRS SINCE BIRTH AND PROBABLY THE TIME I AM TO LIVE, I WILL NEVER COME ACROSS SUCH BEAUTIFUL LYRIC WRITING.

Lots of music sounds the same at basic levels.

@0tto777 U2 work this kind of guitars, drums and progressions since their first album in 1980. Maybe PRR was inspired by U2.

It sounds something like they're stuff from Achtung Baby...kind of obscure and out of focus

My favorite song from the album, it was originally supposed to be the opening track and I wish they'd left it that way.
