I fail to see how posting a video on YouTube with background music damages WMG or any other content owners. The videos cannot be downloaded and shared with other users like Napster. Instead, the videos promote the music and can result in sales that would not have otherwise happened. Personally, I'm done with YouTube. This explains what happened to the Motley Crue Vevo channel. I just figured this out last night when I uploaded a video I made for the Afghan Whigs song "John the Baptist." Funnily enough, I can still watch the video if I'm logged on to Youtube as myself, but no one else can. I was going to write WMG a nice letter asking for their permission to use the song, now I can see that's probably a waste of time.

I give my solemn pledge that I will not buy any products from any of the companies listed and ask every one else to do the same. When the artists contracts are finished at WMG, they will have the option to actually make some money with another, more intelligent label, and then we will be free to post their music again.

A little lesson to the haters: Many of the artists that sign with WMG never make back the money that it costs (paid by WMG) to distribute their work. The profits that WMG makes come mostly from a handful of superstar artists. Without those profits, WMG could not afford to sign new acts. Artists who don't like the contracts offered to them are of course free to sign with another company. WMG's history, though, shows that a lot of acts have stayed with them, even after they didn't have to.

Using copyrighted music in a youtube video without authorization is not "personal use" under the "fair use" doctrine; it is piracy.
