The problem started in 1948? No, it started around 1956 when the nationlistic government of SWRD came to power and went about with its racist policies. That's when the first clash occurred between the Tamil and the Sinhalese. Two riots will be noted in 1956 and 1958.

There weren't any other attacks on Tamils till 1977 after the LTTE was formed. Still, you're right the LTTE didn't start the problem.

Tamil and Sinhalese did live in harmony and still do in the South. I went to school with a lot of Tamils and they made up most of my friends. Nobody in my family or in my immediate vicinity as I was growing up (I'm Sinhalese) ever displayed any racist attitude towards Tamils.

About living in harmony in the past. A lot of Sinhalese travelled to South India to make movies and many Tamil filmmakers came to Sri Lanka and worked on Sinhala film.Till 1956 there was no division between the two groups

Tamil Tigers have killed Tamils. They massacred a lot of Tamil speaking Muslims in the North and the Eastern Province and forced thousands to leave with meagre posessions.

The Tigers have also murdered members of the other separatist Tamil groups that emerged after 1983. Note that there were 6 groups in the beginning. there is only one group now.

The first revolutionary act Prabha did was murder the Tamil major of Jaffna. They've murdered plenty of other moderates since then.

This comment is quite deceiving for the simple fact that the LTTE extort money from innocent tamils living in different countries. I now live in canada and my neighbor and his family was Tamil who escaped from the North many years ago, yet LTTE members come to his house almost every month to forcefully collect money from them when they barely have money to pay the bills. or else their family will be killed back home by the Tigers. This was the case in many situations especially in the UK.
