Like many of you, I never heard of this Petty song before Appallosa but as soon as I heard it, I had to listen to it again and again. Its such a simple sounding song but very affective. I love it; and now is one of my favorite songs.

Tom Petty is a "real" folk singer to me. Bob Dillion and the others don't mean anything to me...I'm not from that time period. But, Petty's music has allway's ment someting to me. I'm just glad I can enjoy his music in real time. Great song for a great movie.

@gorky45 Tom Petty does rock. He got a LOT of his influence from Bob D-Y-L-A-N and the Byrds. His greatest influences are Dylan, Beatles, R Stones, Byrds, etc. The British Invasion and 60s Rock. He learned about all of the music he loves now, Blues/Rhythm, etc from the bands he adored as a teen and young adult. :-)

Beyond the obvious I didn't know much about Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and certainly nothing about Mudcrutch. The other evening I caught 'Running Down a Dream' the 4hr documentary and can safely say that I am now a convert to anything and everything Tom has made. Genius songwriting, great band and great attitude. I'm gutted to have missed out for nearly 40 years but am sure as hell making up for lost time!

What's so cool is that his old bandmates from Mudcrutch are backing him up in such fine fashion. I know some will think this comment way over-the-top, but to me this song ranks with songs like "You Don't Know How It Feels" or "Mary Jane" or even "Free Falling" or "American Girl" as one of his best songs ever. Ditto "Orphan of the Storm" and "Wrong Thing to Do," (from Mudcrutch also) these are such hidden gems. At nearly 60 years of age the man has still got it.
