  • I remember the Delta 747 in early 70's and the big frist class cabin upstairs, awesome, I think it was after the Oct. 1973 oil embargo Delta sold them. I remember the baby DC-9 15 series, convair 880, the L1011 was also one of my favorites, great flim, brings back memories.

  • I was a brand new stew and only flew the L1011/15's for two years before they were taken to the desert, sold, ect...I LOVED that plane! Sure, the carts were heavy, but the large crews were fun to work with, the pilots were the BEST (shoutout to Capt. Hnk Panky!) and the design was one of a kind. There were elevators, a downstairs kitchen, spy trappings in case of danger...Yes, we would sigh and call it the "Tri-tanic" or L911 when we saw mechanics coming, but we all cried when she was gone :(

  • I didn't know that DC-8 was still in Delta's fleet when B757 and B767 appeared. Wow.. Nice thnx

  • sigh...I flew on a few of these in the 70s. What fond memories.

    Thank you for posting!

  • U should say that the l-1011 is better than the 777!

  • THANK yOU FOR POSTING THIS...VERY ENJOYABLE....Paulo

  • Great memories.....thanks you!

(Do you have the Northeast airlines jingle? -- "Yellowbird"?

  • I thought it was the Eastern Airlines L-1011's that were haunted, supposedly after the crash of Flight 401?

  • Excellent video. Love the nostalgia. Perhaps it is just old age talking, but it seems like there was a wider variety back then -- now, most airliners look alike. I miss the 727 -- so sleek and graceful. And the L-1011 -- distinct and huge but still graceful at the same time. Those were the days! Great work.

  • The wonderful L-1011 was truly the best airliner Delta ever operated, especially when you consider that not only did Lockheed not build any more of them after 1983, they basically quit supporting them as well. Delta flew them 16 years after all this happened. Yes, we had internal engineers constantly approving new modifications, and in-house mechanics manufactured parts for them, which kept them flying. Yes, they became "Late 10 out of 11 times" as the nickname went, but they still flew.

  • Long Live Boeing!!! Hope Airbus parishes (Sry frenchies)

  • umm no, the 380 is better than the 727.

  • Yeah only people who know nothing about Airplanes would say something like that.

  • The 727 was a legend, it will always outrank the stupid A380...

  • I think the best livery was the original that they fazed out in the early 90's since than they have had 3 different types.

  • best livery delta ever had,the new one a cross betwween delta and nortwest is sickening

  • Excellent video! Great shots of the old Delta logo.

  • why were the L-1011's haunted?

  • That was my thought too. I first flew on a DA L-10 from ATL to DFW and on to either LAX or SFO maybe in 1987? 88? I was with my grandfather and it was when the smoking section was still in the rear. Plane was empty but I remember how HUGE it was and that sound it made. I always remembered what it looked like even against DC-10 and always wanted to fly on it again. In 1994 after my grandfather died, we ended up flying on an L-10 from ATL to DFW again so it was like he gave me my wish.

  • Delta is running 747's again how about that??

  • I did fly Delta a few times. flew on The L1011TriStar, Boeing 767-200 and 757-200. great planes.

  • In October '08 I got to fly on one of Delta's old 747s, still in service as N709CK with Kalitta Air (Cargo).

  • Great airline (I know, I have flown Delta hundreds of times).......very cool music!

  • What was an advantage of the L1011 vs. the DC-10?

  • The L-1011 was safer.

  • Actually, the only aircraft known to be haunted was Eastern Airlines N318EA - MSN 1018...which was never a part of the Delta fleet.

    Moron.

  • Who are you calling a Moron?

  • @Bigone4 I don'y know their haunted (especially when u say many)

  • Nice vid! I'm from Cincy and never knew Delta had 747's! I have both the Postcards at 38 and 53 of the L1011 & 727 too!

  • read at 0:45

  • What about it?

  • I am proving Concorde lover wrong

  • How that doesn't prove anything...They were haunted because When lockheed was making some of the L-1011's they used parts from the EA crash. It is one of the safest planes ever built. 3-4 crashes that killed people. DL 191 was because of a Microburst. So If you keep trying to up him take it to the emails... I don't want to see that here on my video.

  • DON'T ATTACK PEOPLE ON MY VIDEOS!!!

  • Whoever rated my comment good comment i will subscribe to them and add them as a friend.nice work

  • What do you mean the L-1011s were "haunted"?

  • I think the L-1011 is stupid...ugly colors...1955 body shape and worst safety record

  • are you kidding me!!! the L-1011 is one of the safest and most advanced planes in the world. so before you even comment next time, why don't you do some research moron!!!

  • your right. the L-1011 had one of the best safety records. Kobeydurham you want a plane with a bad record fly a

    DC-10.

  • What do you know about planes? The L-1011 is way the safest.

  • OK but remember Delta 191?

  • That was caused by weather, not by the plane. Most planes didnt have windshear warnings anyway. Only 3 fatal 1011 have occured

  • big whoop

  • whatever

  • the colors look so ghostly and that was a major crash of DAL191

  • SWEET!

  • SWEET!

  • Delta doesn't have 747s the rest of boeing they have right now is 737 757 767 777

  • They had them In the 1970s from 1970-1977.

  • delta didnot merge with united srry

  • They might merge with Northwest.

  • Delta now has some 747's

  • Nope

  • sry, i meant delta's skyteam partners

  • Yeah I hope that delta will merge with United so they can get some and maybe keep them.

  • no dude, that means the HQ will leave ATL, i live here, they shouldn't merge at all.

  • Well yeah I think if they do merge then that would be great. However I am with you Here in Cincinnati it is quite questionabel of our future. I how delta reinvents Cincinnati. Cuts off JFK and sends the routes and aircraft to cincinnati!

  • Hahahahaha!

  • did Delta really fly to LHR ?

  • yes back in the 60's and 70's but don't quote me on the times but now they are resarting services to LHR in the spring.

  • did delta really have a 747???????????????????and why did they get ride of it? great vid to.

  • Delta Did have 747's in the 1970's. They got rid of them because they could not fill the the seats and also favored the Lockheed L-1011. Delta has no plans to buy anymore. Delta only operated them from 70-77.

  • how were they huated the airplane that looks like dc10

  • I wish I was around to see a DElta 747 in person. They was wit draw from Delta fleet a year before I was born.

  • Those stretched DC-8's were cool, the classic version of the A340-600 (the being long as hell part), How did you rotate those things?

  • Very good Video.

  • Those stretch DC-8s were tailstrikes waiting to happen, weren't they? ;-)

  • well done video!
