your laser has a something on it like dust. which caused it to send the signal stronger to the spindle to spin faster because the laser controls the spindle (MOTOR) im telling you this because i did the repairs for 2 to 3 years so i came across every problem. tear down your ps3 to get to blu-ray so you can clean the laser. problem solved. :)

That sound should be normal. However they do make a DVD cleaning disc with little bristles on the DVD. From time to time dirt, dust, oil, etc builds up and can make the drive louder and/or have issues reading discs.
i had this issue i sent my ps3 to sony got it back in a week worked fine they asked me if i had moded it in any way i had i bought a bigger hard drive off of ebay and put it in they said the slims have security against moddind and it slipped my hdd disk drive like your srry 2say u gunnahave 2 send it away :(

It's the laser bro; It's reading the disks. Your ps3 looks like it's in good shape and it's normal bro. Some games are louder than others with it. And it also does it when it's warming up. Mine does it when i put in a game, then it goes away in like 30 minutes and only does it on loading a cutscene or something which is also normal.

I just got the 320 move bundle and have a similar concern. Pop a disk in and it vibrates with a worrying intensity (somewhere between phone vibrate and dual shock rumble). It feels almost like a severly imbalanced disk, but I've tried several, the problem persists. noticed it thanks to "humming" sound it also makes due to vibration. I've called sony and the nice lady told me that it was not normal and I should return it. But I've already lost my game save data once, NOT AGAIN!

Blu rays read disks at different speeds just like a CD Rom drive, and one of the speeds the blue ray hits causes the case and fixings on the slim to rattle due to the speed the disk spins as it's loading. It's a design fault by sony, but wont cause your console to break or explode.
mine does this too. its not that its reading the disc, because for the first 6 months i had the PS3 it didnt make that noise then one day it just started. its a different noise from the one you have. i dont think much of it, its not like its loud or annoying or anything.

@zuul66 No, because those games load the map before you play. Fallout 3 and otherwise load WHILE youre playing. This is what causes freezing problems. Same for games that have over 5 GB memory. They might freeze if youre on your last few GB on your PS3.
Fortunately, my console was still under warranty so I sent it in this month to get it replaced. The unit that was returned to me has a different Blu-Ray drive, one that has a much less forceful disc ejection process and slightly quieter operation. Most importantly, any media I insert does not make the trademark buzzing noise I had become accustomed to. If your console is still under warranty and you haven't already solved the issue, I suggest sending it to Sony. They will get you square away.
Your PS3's drive is not supposed to make such a noticeable buzzing noise. The would make buzzing noises with certain Blu-Ray games and when loading DVD movies about six months into owning it. My best guess is that the drive eventually is not firmly rooted in place within the chassis and becomes loose enough to produce such a noise. I believe along with playing disc media like normal, the drive's rather forceful ejection process (KA-THUNK, THUNK) may be to blame as well.

its the ps os looking for files to kick,start, operate the game same as a pc wen you look for a file of click on an app, like i.e the pc will make a noise, its cause the os i working so hard to find the files and moving maybe 50mega at the same time to kick the app(start) and hence the fan works harder

it does that with all models of systems. its cause of the way your console reads the disc, it did it with my wii my 360 before it got the rind of death. my advice is to go and ask someone who works at like best buy or your nearest electronic store to evaluate it and cheak the disk reader.

Wait...the problem is that you probably don't vacuum the vents. Vacuum EVERY vent with a super-low powered vacuum, and it should be fine. If you don't it should result in YLOD. I'm getting it in two days but I've done a lot of research :D

ya i noticed that too. I had a 80gb ps3 (the one like the 60gb) and the disc drive was nice and silent. now i get a ps3 slim and the disc drive is loud and it spins the disc when its going in. Sony just gets cheaper and cheaper....
It make that noise when you play because one of the fans are damaged mines had the Sam problem or clean all the vents because it might over heat and freeze up alot
the reason that its so loud is that your sticking your fucking camera right up to the drive. If you are, ya know, sitting AWAY from the system, It will be nice and quiet. God. pointless.

its definitely the disk or your thing is trying to read it and your blue ray laser has something blocking its movement not much you can do but let it run its course it will eventually work itself out

its the ps os looking for files to kick,start, operate the game same as a pc wen you look for a file of click on an app, like i.e the pc will make a noise, its cause the os i working so hard to find the files and moving maybe 50mega at the same time to kick the app(start) and hence the fan works harder

yea dude i fixed my 40gb model just 3 days ago and if you want to if you have it talk to me about fixing it so yea i fixed it by myself and that sony send in thing is retarded so yea i have the video's on my page on youtube and i also have 3 ps3's i have the 60gb model and then the 40gb model and i also have the 120gb slim model...
and your problem is there is a eye disk reading stem stuck on something so you might want to take it apart and move the things were they need to be and yea

it does that with all models of systems. its cause of the way your console reads the disc, it did it with my wii my 360 before it got the rind of death. my advice is to go and ask someone who works at like best buy or your nearest electronic store to evaluate it and cheak the disk reader.

seriously people need to stop buying the white xbox 360 (THE CHEAP ONE) and get a good one (Black Elite/Slim) cuz then it wont get any crashes, problems, and very very very very VERY small chance of hardware failure and then people wont complain about RROD and shit like that!

@superboy12396 ok with me both my PS3 and PS3 slim freeze after playing it a long time and thats the only problem I HAVE had. Now with the Xbox idk cause i dont have one but one of my freinds said he got the 3 ring of death thing and he plays with his for a long time. so i guess if you play ether one a LONG time they both tie. so just flip a coin or someting :D... plus i think i might get the Xbox 360 Slim soon.

i hate how people are so paranoid about things like this. yeah it makes a weird noise here and there, maybe its searching on different parts of the disc to load up a menu that takes up more memory than menu's of other games. but hey, your ps3 still works, so quit whining about little problems

TRY CLEANING THE VENTS AND THE DISC SLOT WITH A LOW POWER VACCUM It may be just dust

Wait...the problem is that you probably don't vacuum the vents. Vacuum EVERY vent with a super-low powered vacuum, and it should be fine. If you don't it should result in YLOD. I'm getting it in two days but I've done a lot of research :D

ya i noticed that too. I had a 80gb ps3 (the one like the 60gb) and the disc drive was nice and silent. now i get a ps3 slim and the disc drive is loud and it spins the disc when its going in. Sony just gets cheaper and cheaper....

hey im experiencing that too, same ps3, a 120gb slim ps3. i just bought it last 5 days ago. it's making noise when im playing cod mw2 only! but when i changed the game like metal gear solid 4. there's no noise at all. it happens that when im only playing cod mw2 that's only where you can hear the noise same as your ps3 slim 120gb. well sometimes i ignore the sound, but it gives me the creeps when im playing. did you try other games instead of fifa that's in this video? bec. i only have 2 games
