  • I like french films :D Well, at least really late at night, they're relaxing with the lack of music n stuff

  • The music is very "Dark Side of the Moon".

  • Well... the music was nice :-)

  • What is the shoegaze-y sounding music in the background?

  • @TheChristChris sounds almost like Cocteau twins

  • @TheChristChris its robin guthrie of the cocteau twins

  • I think Diva by Jean-Jacques Beiniex is the inspiration for this.

Wonderful, stylish movie. Very meaningful - when Alba leans over you can almost see her breasts.

  • the irony is Monkey Dust is more artistically profound than almost any film ive ever seen. That and its bloody funny.

  • This isn't even satire. Most euroschlock really has these "qualities". ;-))

  • @ZemplinTemplar That's what satire is, you moron.

  • 'When the girl leans over you can almost see her breasts'

    Well, I'm sold.

  • it's funny but it is definitly not realistic. i mean it maybe looks like a godard movie (which I hate exactly because it is pretentious, sorry for people who like him) but not like french movie. I don't think people of other countries have seen a lot of french movies, that's why they think that! in the same way in france we don't see a lot of movies from other countries, (exept american movies haha which is so sad). we just have to stop criticize everything everytime, it's boring, seriously.

  • Very good satire :)

There are plenty of really good art French movies, and there are plenty of tasteless ones. :)

  • lol golden shower

  • I'm french. I study cinema at la FEMIS, which is basically the place where all films targeted in this video are born, and I hate those. Obviously there are (have been) some amazing french films, if you don't believe that you need to watch Truffaut - Jules et Jim, Sacha Guitry, Renoir, everything where Audiard has written the dialogs. However, as bad as the result may be, the french are still "trying" to do pictures about something else than some blue guy being pocahontas on weirded out dragons.

  • what's with the pink leotard?

  • A script written by hens would inevitably turn out awesome. Look how Axe Cop turned out. Now, I'm not claiming that five year olds only have the mental capacity of a hen. Except I totally am.

  • @RetiredJimmy Axe Cop is amazing. That kid has one imaginative brain.

  • This is really funny. "Gahh. what have I done?!"

  • Hahaha trop fort putain, c'est exactement ça le cinéma français!

  • what the fuck was that?

  • I wonder if this inspired Trey and Matt's South Park episode, where it is discovered Family Guy scripts are actually written by manatees.... :) I like to think so.

  • well, atleast it wasnt written by chickens. ;3

  • Yes, I agree, the French cinema is a crock of shit !!!!!!!!

  • when french movies arent about sex its about this. lol

  • THE SCRIPT'S BEEN WRITTEN BY HENS

  • has a bit of a Blade Runner feel to it

  • Pretentious it maybe but its 10 times better than Hollywood shite .....

  • @Softrockman ummmmmmmm no

  • @guykinniku, having worked for a Japanese company I now how slavish you can be towards anything US, here in Europe we have our own standards.

  • @Softrockman As you seem to be mad on the French dose that makes not make you the one who is being slavish yes Hollywood carp but un like French Cinema the plots are better i mean this is why this bit so funny cos thats what French Cinema is like Pretentious and dull maybe in france you have your "own" standards but i don't think you can speek for all of Europe i mean UK Cinema is way better and haveing been to france i know how snobbish they can be about the US. So grow up the end.

  • the opening 2 seconds made me stop this video and now I'm going to search 911 by wyclef jean

  • yes, people have to bear in mind this is satire.

  • @makdee That doesn't make it inaccurate, however.

  • Claiming or demanding a position of distinction or merit, especially when unjustified.

i.e. right up its own arse

if one is going to quote definitions from second rate online dictionaries perhaps one should provide the full definition

and yes, it is a satirical comment on English attitudes to French film

  • Making or marked by an extravagant outward show; ostentatious.

That is the definition of pretentious.

I read on each French film review that 'it was great, fantastic etc.etc. But people feel obliged to add 'it's very french', 'it's very pretentious.

If you want to see pretenious films watch Italian or Spanish films.

The most pretentious films of all are American.

    -stylish

    -snappy conversation

    -unlifelike situations.

I think French films are much closer to the truth.

  • The idea of something being closer to the truth is very pretentious. Whos truth, my truth, your truth, a wombats truth.

  • Hey I've noticed how on each IMDB French film review some idiot always labels a film pretentious - just because it's French.

Here is the dictionary definition 'Making or marked by an extravagant outward show; ostentatious'

I think that most french films are actually contrary to this definition. They are relaitively simple in dialogue, filming and execution.

I think that in comparison Italian or Spanish films are far far more pretenious.French films are poignant and simple but never

  • I love how people are saying things like "spot on... French films are well pretentious."

    Two things:

    1. Exactly HOW MANY French films have you seen from beginning to end?

    2. Seeing are you are collectively and culturally stereotyping one nation's fiilm output to a single word (ie. pretentious), could you do the same for eg British film? Or American film? Just one word.

...else I've got two for you.

  • And by the way, they are parodying bad french cinema made for the british market. Hence "you English go crazy for that"

  • @sorayacita may i revert you to the pretentious wankers monkey dust sketch?

  • 'az anybodeee seeen ma keeyz!?

  • haha. d'you think this inspired the south park manitee scriptwriting joke?

  • No Mega, that was inspired by their hatred of Family Guy.

  • the piano teacher is good

  • I love Monkey Dust

    I miss it so much.

This is spot all French films are pretensious crap.

Although Amelie was alright but thats only because Audrey Tatau is fit.

  • Jonno, you sound really sophisticated, mate. Truth is, you'd be easy prey for a Monkey Dust sketch.

  • I can assure I am not sophisticated Stone.

I would'nt mind being parodied in Monkey Dust.

Its way funnier then all the Two Pints of Lager and Michael McIntyre shit BBC Three show now.

  • you are an idiot

  • lol, I was going to reply "what about Amelie", then read your last sentence.

There's also Delicatessen. It's a different kind of cinema, for sure.

  • only french film i ever enjoyed was 'barrier 13'. the rest is just too .....pretentious lol

  • The script has been written by HENS!

  • Monkey dust is pure genious! Does anyone know what music is this in the video?? please???

  • it's Robin Guthrie track is Imperial. Its on here

  • And when she leans over you can almost see her breasts!^_^

  • I love French Cinema...but this video is so TRUE...

  • Agreed!

  • the hat of my uncle

  • A work of Art:)

  • that is the funniest sketch ever! rofl

  • its a universal story. when she leans over you can almost see her breasts. class!

  • The ending just kills me

  • 'As anyone seen ma keez!

  • An arrow straight to the hearts of pretentious cunts everywhere.

    Bravo Mr Thompson!

  • Has anyone seen ma keys?!

  • Why is the pedo-finder general there?

  • It is ahh.. a universal story.. when ze girl leans over and you can almost see her breasts.

    Classic

  • @EdgarTFriendly That pretty much sums it up. French cinema that is.

  • 'le chapeau de mon oncle' means the hat of my uncle!

    LOL!

  • LOL nice XDD

  • Whats the song in the beginning its very zen like

  • robin guthrie - imperial

  • thx for that, thought it sounded Cocteaux. I am off to listen to his stuff now cheers...

  • 'I prefer to call them my hats'

And what the HELL about the bloke showering in the light?!

  • hmmm, this wasn't their best sketch.

    The best ones are

    - Indian call centre

    - Internet is expanding

  • Whatever your opinion, you can't deny it's still a good one

  • Yeah, they were all good I guess.

  • this is awesome )

  • Don't worry, the Mohammadans will punish France for this.

  • does anyone know what the music that was playing at the beginning?

  • Probably produced for this programme only.

  • Robin Guthrie - Imperial

  • im pretty sure i nearly got arrested in Paris for being English!..

  • God! sudendly i 'm ashamed of my own country! What is that !

  • french is a nice place, dont be ashamed, im sure the rest of france is fantastic^^

  • Great clip. Also a possible solution to the writers' strike in America.

  • I thought the film looked good.

  • so did i , it would be interesting if it carried it on, i liked the music accompanying it too

  • I too liked the music at the beginning. Does anyone know where it's from? Thanks in advance.

  • Robin Guthrie - Imperial

  • Me too!

  • "la critique est facile mais l' art est difficile" : bande de jaloux !

    But it's funny.

  • CAN't stand France. Paris is a total dump.

  • Yeah. Like the opinion of someone who cant even capitalise the right word matters.....

  • erm.. okay i respect your point of view...

But do you really think Paris is the most visited place because it's a "total dumb" ?

Paris is a great town that's why so many people love it. You should come and see by yourself...

BUT you're not completly wrong: France&Paris have many drawbacks. But I'm french so when i say i don't like France i know what i'm talking about. And you? Are you sure you know enough about this country to criticise it?

  • Thanks. Ce difficile... I visited France for a week- everyone was an a-hole. Everyone from the toilet cleaner to the garbage truck driver who nearly totalled our car. The people in the shops behind counters were miserable pretensious modern artistes... the attitude of the French really gets on my tits- all snotty nosed and acting on a superior level, etc. Not to say I hate you, just France n general.

  • Well now i understand ur point of view.I agree when u say french are often.. unsympathetic and pretentious (exactly as english people that's probably why they can't stand each other) i've been several times to NYC people there were very welcoming i really felt the diference. Usually tourists are glad it's a pity you didn't like your trip because of the bad mentality. Paris is really a great city. Arrrgh sorry for the negative image u have now of us :s

  • Yep Mary and the Scottish, Welsh and Irish are friendlier than the English lol

Anyway when I first left home and was at college there was these 2 french lads, with a really old renault clio(the stereotype ones you see on tv red, etc) They werent even attractive yet women loved them due to their accent, lets just say they had a lot of hate from the men as they walked right in and flirted with every woman lol, I only been to Calais and the people there were friendly

  • What a crock. I was in Paris this summer, and I didn't meet a single unpleasent person. Of course, if you're american, you'll think you're meeting people with an attitude, because news flash: Europeans in general don't go around being in all fake happy go lucky mode all the time. It's called sincerity. Look it up.

  • Okay, enough with the european fantasy; I live in Paris and Trust me, people there are the most fake, angry, racist and unhappy people ever. They basically hate everyone but don't have the guts to say anything to your face.

  • Oh, please. You're an american living in america. Admit it.

  • Je suis belge et j'habite à Paris depuis trois ans. J'ai certes beaucoup de famille aux Etats Unis mais je ne suis pas américain. Let's see if you can translate that, smart ass.

  • lol I'm in French 3 fantastic! Loved your come back.

  • What? With babelfish?

  • Err, when did this have anything to do with anyone knowing french?

  • i am Wallonian and live in Paris for 3 years

(and then something about your family living in the united state but yourself isn't born in america)

    did i won the game?

  • Not really...

  • Everybody who read that just Lost The Game. Me Included.

    Gorram it.

  • Damn.

  • I wasn't using the Accursed Babelfish based nicely onn the works of the greatest radio show / novel / TV series / Film ever...

Belgian, been living in Paris for three years. You have plenty of family in the US but you're not American.

Traduit ca fou! (I reverse translated I know!)

  • ThatTs becauSe its fiLLed with wannabe peoples from all over the world who Lives there so that they can post in myspace and score chicks/or dicks. Got that? Its no better or worse than any other country. Some of them are apeshit rude, but so are everyone.

  • It's called sincerity. Look it up. It's called you are a fanboy. Look it up, nuffy.

  • What are you even talking about america for in the first place? Unless this is a response to some other comment and youtube failed to thread it properly. Again.

    Which seems quite likely.

  • HAHAHA just like the real movies! No plot pointless retardation, and so on.

  • I agree!!! And Kind of scary!!

  • iz menta be

  • The sad thing is...I've seen movies like this...

  • ha, i feel you man!!

  • @darthbeanie Ugh, me too. Too many. Every time I see a French film.

  • Ah, that explains it all..
