I hope this is not an effort to rewrite history. There is absolutely no evidence to point to a successful climb as nothing was ever found on the top to indicate they had been there. Surely they would have left a marker of some sort to indicate the success of the climb. I think they got real close and then something happened which ended the attempt. I think it would be best to leave it at that and pay tribute to the efforts of both men by simply remembering them.

Nope, even if Mallory or Irvine had reached the summit. History would not be rewritten. As Edmund Hillary stated, to be considered to have climb a mountain, one has to climb UP and DOWN said mountain. Sadly these two men never got off Mount Everest. A failed attempt even if they reached the summit.
