  • idiot, its a boken/daito...

  • sorry but im getting old and my memory is going poo poo, does daito mean similar to boken? i dont speak japanese at all and was wondering if i am confuseing it with daikatana thinking it was a boken used for horseback practiceis daito and daikatana similar, or the same? or am i barking up the wrong tree?

  • daito its practice katana but its made of

    bamboo.

  • ahh hold on odachi is the sword use for fighting from horseback right?

  • Nope, odachi were the predecessors of naginata and were used against cavalry. Daikatana is a common mispronunciation of odachi. When referring to wooden swords, the terms bokken or bokuto are used as they mean the same thing. Tachi simply means long sword and generally refers to swords made to be worn blade down by samurai while wearing armor. Katana also means long sword and refers to swords made to be worn blade up.
