Contrary to what some may believe Hitler was not against Slavic People or the Soviet Union what he was against was Communism. In the years since WW II ended to the time the Soviet Union was disbanded western nations spent trillions of dollars (or the equivalent) in the Cold War against Communism which still goes on today with the remaining Communist Nations. The U.S. Government did not consult the general public in forming an alliance with the Soviet Union. Of course FDR was a closet Communist.
Wow! An early Soviet newsreel! What the two have in their hands seem to be an Iron Cross, the Narvik badge, and a couple of Our Lady of Perpetual Help medals; well at least the oval one--didn't seem to come to much Miraculous help in this case.
You're right. It does look like a Narvik shield. Some 1,300 were issued to Luftwaffe crews. Should be possible then to track down who the pilot may have been.
