  • exactly....gay fricken NHL rules... >:|

  • Ya it's because of the injury folowing the hit

  • Both hits were dirty.

With Kariya though, we didn't know as much about concussions as we do today.

It's only been 9 years, but we've learned a lot.

  • this is NOT clean. He hit him in the head with his shoulder and he left his feet. Also maybe a little late but w.e he was finishing his check

  • I realize that the Stevens-Kariya hit was not that long ago, but the rules today for hits to the head are much more strict than they were even 5-10 years ago. THAT is why Rome was suspended.

  • @treerunner1 Exactly, some people are just fucking stupid.

  • Should of been a 1 or 2 game suspension... just like Torres' hit on Seabrooke...

but to get 5 games for this? That whole series was a joke for both sides, Bruins and Canucks

    ~Canucks fan

  • Both are slightly late checks. You don't feel bad for Horton however, he deserves it, and I hope there's more to come.

  • @ahilmeros you hope more players get injured? holy shit your fucking stupid. I don't want to ever see someone get hurt

  • @macattack2251 How has that have anything to do with intelligence? Malice if anything. However, yes, some deserve to get a reality check. Take Pronger for one, a little too late though.

  • You mad Canuck's fans?

  • its simple it was a late hit!

  • He got what he deserved nuff said

  • So, your premise is that a blown call years ago means a late hit to the head is legal? Let me guess, you're not employed at the executive level...right?

  • Your fuckin retarded kid shut the fuck up boston can suck my dick

  • you vancouvwr fans are hilarious do you even know wts coming out of yur mouths u sounf like u were born yesterday. show some class u guys think tht wasn't dirty. well if you don't think he should have beenn suspended then cry bout it it lloks like u guys dont have a stanley cup so piss of

  • @stevieisdabomb

protip: when accusing others of lacking class, you should try and do it in a way that demonstrates yours instead of the exact opposite.

  • @stevieisdabomb ahahah You realise that you have terrible spelling right?

  • Both hits were dirty and illegal and dangerous. But hey, if brat hockey is what Vancouver wants to play, keep it up, because it lost them a Stanley Cup, and it's rubbed off on their fans too.

  • the only difference between the 2 hits is the fucking rules are different now, Rome shouldn't of been suspended

  • I'm a Canucks fan and I think the Rome hit was dirty, just because of the new rules. Stevens would be suspened of he played in the new NHL. But even so, Rome was out and Horton was out. Who was more important?

  • he hit the guy straight in the head, why shouldn't he get suspended?

    it was dirty

  • Regardless of the punishment, you don't think its a crazy-bad hit? Especially in the SCF? Just because its not fair doesn't mean we can't try to make it fair.

  • One of the dirtiest hits I've ever seen. Typical Canuck. Lmfao get fucked in game 7!! sucks to lose faggots!!

  • @FreezeHD1 you must not watch a lot of hockey if that's the dirtiest hit you've ever seen. and please give an example or actually numerous examples of dirty Canucks if its so typical.

  • @FreezeHD1 hahaha one of the dirtiest hits you've ever seen? did you just start watching hockey this year? even if you have there have been way dirtier hits than this so far this year

  • if Horton wasn't admiring his pass he would've seen the hit coming and braced himself, therefor no concussion and no suspension and no drama lol They call they're selves a rough team? well learn to have your head on a swivel if you call yourselves that. Heads up hockey... they should know better.

  • Completely inaccurate. On the Stephens hit he was clearly already committed to the hit while Rome wound up post-pass

  • i am a bruins fan and i have to say this is a clean hit even you can say a little late but the hit itself is clean. this is why the rule "look where you skate and keep your hed UP" came.

  • @argemy The hit was late and was a blindside hit at that. It was in NO WAY a clean hit.

  • @shattertheearth no sir, horton turned his body to the right side but he still had his eyes on the puck. rome was there no attacking on hortons head, hard hit but clean, it's hockey no volley ball!

  • i dont think it was dirty intentionally but the hit was a bit more severe then it needed to be he hit horton pretty damn hard u dont need to level everyone ur checking and honestly its not a big deal in a regular game but given what happend in vancouver it made it worse then it really was i feel

  • Just for the Canuck and Bruins fans debating whether it was a late hit, I timed it for fun and saw that it was about 0.8-0.9 seconds. Late, or not? I don't think so tbh, players finish their checks even later than that. I think Horton being injured wasn't Rome's fault but more of the impact of his head hitting the ice. But let's be real, had Horton been looking straight, like he should have been, he would have been ready to embrace the hit and possibly not get injured. Just my take guys

  • Lucic*

  • 1. It was the dirtiest hit ever 2. Of course he hits horton he's too pussy to hit someone like lucid

  • @theplaceforyou dirtiest hit ever....really? don't get me wrong it was late, but come on EVER, if you watch hockey you know thats not true

  • he jumped when he ht him so it was dirty

  • NHL BIG DOGS WHO DONT LIKE THE NUCKS CAN SUCK MY DICK!!!

  • oh also, didn't kariya come back in the fucking game ?

horton didn't play for the rest of the series.

  • ...like he was going to make the biggest difference in the fucking series anyway. haha

  • ya people are crazy if you think rome's hit was legal. Horton took 3 clear strides after he passed it while Rome left his feet and took a shoulder to hortons head. The only reason Stevens didnt get suspended was because the league hadn't started cracking down on those types of hits. Romes was far worse and a lot more gutless, thats a hit only cowards make and you saw those types of plays by van throughout the entire Final. Higgens took a run at chara and hansen took runs at ference and mcquaid

  • stevens didnt leave his feet

  • He lunged up and hit him in the fucking head people...

  • So many rule changes have occurred in the time period between these games....

  • When it comes down to it if Horton listened in pee wee hockey he wold of had his head up and everything would be okay. but he put himself in a bad situation.

  • @Canucksin2012 someone has a grudge

  • @CoryTheTechMan Shut the fuck up you fucking idiot!! You obviously don't know shit about hockey (typical americans) Rome's hit was clean. And tell me, if Horton did have a 'severe' concussion, why in the hell did he take part in the warm up for game 7? Fucking dumb faggot.

  • Stevens on Kariya should have ended Stevens career not kariyas. Kariya was a future hall of famer and Stevens was a cheapshot artist. Do you see Stevens doing anything hockey related now? No. NHL has distance itself from him. Rome's hit on horton was not as bad as Horton did pull his head up as the hit was coming and Rome was in the process of the hit when Horton made the pass. It was a penalty not a long suspension one though

  • Stevens hit was alot worse than Rome's. First of all look at the size difference between Kariya and Stevens, and then the lateness of the hit. Looking at Rome's hit; it was a late hit, no question, but when you're in the Stanley Cup Finals, you have to keep your head up and not admire your pass. Both plays should have been penalties for sure, but for the Rome hit, I don't believe there should have been a suspension or at the very most 1 or 2 games, not the series.

  • Pull your head out of ur ass..romes hit was late and to the head..turning point in series..brought determination to the Bs and that's why the got the cup

  • @jsutton1998 i'd say the B's won more so because of thomas' play and the bruins defence. I think he had 2 shoutouts in the finals including game 7.

  • Total cheap shot from Rome

  • More like why Aaron Rome was suspended

  • The main difference between the two hits is Rome left his feet when he hit Horton, Stevens did not.

  • I suppose raffi torres head shot that concussed Brent Seabrook, was clean as well? Wake The Fuck Up!!! Or Are You Deaf & Blind? This Isn't the 80,s? You Can't Target The Head..... If the Stevens hit happens today, he gets as many games as his track record warrents. What part don't you get? You can't turn on any hockey oriented program these days, without hearing about, Headshots, Concussions,& Suspensions as a result of headshots.

  • @BronzebackJack so how bout the hit on raymond was that clean? explain that! Boychuck is a dirty punk and explain why he didnt get suspended he crushed raymonds back

  • im a canucks fan and I think it should have been a suspension. I though 4 games was a bit much though, seeing as it was the longest suspension ever in a Stanley cup finals. and I'd trade rome out for horton out any-day. But I have a strange feeling if it was a Boston player who made the hit, there would be no suspension or even penalty. That's the way the series felt at least.

  • @Morelloo1 i agree i felt exactly the same about it

  • both hits are to the head and too late..the suspensions for those hits must go up. exactly these hits you want to eleminate from the game!

  • Ever heard of rule 48, jeez. Do your homework. And just to help you along a little bit, no rule 48 was not implemented during Scott Stevens' career.

  • A big hit can win a cup. Or, if penalized improperly, lose a cup. The bruins clearly benefitted from favourable calls/non-calls all playoffs -- not just against the Canucks.

  • karya get 3 strides then hit... horton had one stride then hit.. SMD

  • Why Rome was suspended: Shoulder pads worn today are way heavier and are like armor when you hit someone.

  • It's because one team is Boston.

  • My opiningion is that was a cheap shot the boston guy passed the buck allready away and after few seconds he hits him. he didnt were redy to take the hit.

  • if it was the boooostins jerks giving the hit ,, it would have been a perfect hit ,, with no suspension but seeing the NHL big dogs hate the canucks they will get suspensions ,, and when the booostin player runs mason into the boards ,, not even a freakin penalty ,,

  • bullshit hit because lucic had allready taken the shot

  • Not even close to the same thing. Rome puts his elbow up and leaves his feet. Stevens hits a guy with the shoulder, staying on the each and Kariya is too busy admiring the play instead of being aware of his surroundings.

Rome deserves the suspension, plain and simple.

  • @TheSteelcurtain29 There's no question that he left his feet, but what magical elbow are you seeing, because it stays at his side and its his shoulder that follows through. I realize you'll probably put my comments as invalid because I'm a Canucks fan, but there definitely wasn't an . Plus the argument that Kariya was watching his pass goes the other way and one can say that Horton was too.

  • @CaNuCkFrEaK44 There is a huge difference. Rome is skating away from the play originally. He then skates back towards Horton (looking straight at him the entire time) and hits him extremely late. Meanwhile with Kariya, Kariya had just played the puck and Stevens doesn't leave his feet. Remember, Rome was clearly charging (more than two strides to hit Horton) while Stevens was gliding towards Kariya for a good 5+ feet.

To be clear, I'm a Penguins fan and I'm a HUGE Bruins hater.

  • @TheSteelcurtain29 fair enough....

  • @CaNuCkFrEaK44 P.S. - I've seen another look at the Rome hit since from a different angle, the elbow is down actually. But Rome leaving his feet like that does show he clearly went for the head with the targeted hit. Stevens was all body on his hit.

  • the hit wasn't illegal then. It is now. Simple as that.

  • the nhl doesn't use any sort of precedence when making these rulings, which is annoying watching todays nhl seeing every single possible headshot suspended, even if its boarderline clean. let them play the game that i love, not the one that concerned mothers enjoy

  • if you dont take any more strides after he passes you can hit him...

  • this hit is so late just because some other guy did it and didn't get called doesn't mean its okay if you honestly wanna suck aaron romes cock that bad go for it but it wasn't clean in any way lmao

  • God, you're fucking dumb. When Lindros and Kariya were hit, there wasn't a concussion epidemic and hits to the head weren't considered illegal. They are now. Seriously, WHY are Canuck fans do goddamned dense? And they wonder why the rest of Canada hates them... *rolls eyes*

  • Horton is a fucking idiot for admiring his pass like it was peewee hockey. In my opinion he was asking for this hit by doing that during an emotional stanley cup final game. The thing that hurts the most for me as a canucks fan is that I truly believe this was the turning point of the series...

  • @Bobaganewsh I woulda thought that the thing that hurts the most would have been watching hordes of idiots burn the city down AGAIN.

  • Rome got suspended, and Stevens didnt, because the rules have changed

  • watch the time on the clock, not even 1 second goes by from the time he passes to the time he gets hit. tell me how it's late NHL, please tell me. i'm a ref myself. i see hits like that all the time, it's not late. nobody thinks it's late. in the regular NHL season, it's not late and they let more go in the playoffs. why rome was suspended? he sure wouldn't have been if Horton didn't smash his head on the ice and give himself a concussion.

  • You are comparing two different times in hockey, when Stevens got the interference it wasn't the rules weren't as protective as they are now.

  • neither of those were interference it was a clean hit because when you commit to a guy you dont have time to stop and your allowed to follow through with your hit.

  • @nicksalemno you have it right now get bruins fans to believe that

  • @nicksalemno Both hits were interference. Both should have been suspensions. Stevens and Rome both left their feet, and the hits were late. You have to hit the guy within about 3 seconds after he passes ( or shoots) the puck. Stevens and Rome took extra strides to complete their hits. Stevens didn't get suspended because concussions weren't looked at as harshly as they are today.

  • @voisindo this may be true in todays hockey. but todays hockey is also a lot dirtier im young but i still watch old hokcey games from the 70s and such and its cleaner hockey theres not much slashing or hooking and if 2 guys didnt like each other they squared off a few times or they had clean hits. but now a days its all cheap shots. i stand halfway in this argument i guess

  • @nicksalemno Are you kidding? Hockey in the 70's was 100 times worst then today. players grabbed jerseys and hooked like you read about. Todays hockey is ore about puck control and skill and less about sheer strength.

  • @EBeauregard18 So your saying there was no good players in early hockey?? There was records set in the early years of hockey that have still not have been broken yet

  • @nicksalemno Rome and stevens bth had plenty of time to call of the hit. The call on rome was a good call. You can even hear the guy say in the stevens hit, " thats interference!"

  • @nicksalemno he got suspended cuz he jumped into him and hit his head

  • @nicksalemno He was not following through with his hit, look at the video, at the time that Horton dishes the puck, Rome hasn't even started the motion of the hit yet. At 0:40, Horton makes the pass and Rome is still skating backwards.

  • @Jburke22611 Youve obviously never played hockey before. You cant just switch from front to backward skating without any transition strides. Rome was clearly committed to the check and had his decision made before the puck was dished. He wasnt even looking at Horton's stick, just his body. A little late but, but clean hit for sure.

  • The only reason why he got suspended was because it was a blind side hit. Fucking cheap

  • im a bruins fan if horton didnt get hurt rome would of maybe got a interference call and thats it. shannahan is on a tear with these hits

  • It seems that the severity of a hit like this or the hit on Miller depends on circumstance and intention. This hit was bad timing, but Rome was going for the hit and there were bad consequences. After reading the comments criticizing Lucic, he was going for the puck and Miller skated out of his zone to stop the play. Circumstances were different. Consequences should be too.

  • Where do I start? He left his feet, it was late, he targeted the head, and Horton got a concussion u dumbass

  • People forget that the rules of hockey change and they take blindside hits more seriously in the NHL today. Rome was a goon anyway, the only reason Vancouver played him was to take out someone.

  • @tehredhatkid Are you stupid? Rome is not a diabolical player (like sean avery). How the hell was he a goon? In the ice he was pumped up with too much energy and made a bad hit.

  • no the same hits cant happen today you fucking moron he was obviously intentionally looking to hurt horton, get a fucking clue on the game first. its not to fucking hurt people, gtfo youtube.

  • @nkmsports031 Are you OK buddy? "He was obviously trying to hurt Horton? Where the hell do you get that info from you fool, he was finishing his check and it was borderline late. But not late enough for a suspension. Rome was not trying to hurt Horton, all he was doing was eliminating an attacking player, using the "body check", in order to prevent a goal.

You are the most bias, ignorant, nieve, subjective, piece of organic matter since the dawn of evolution, You shame the human race.

  • This video is stupid!!! You're comparing hit from the post-lockout era to one from the pre-lockout era!! completely different times buddy!!

  • @sandro0244 exactly! Hits to the head are taken way more seriously in hockey today than they were before.

  • Whoever made this video is fucking retarded

  • Hey asshole scotty, this should be titled "Why stevens should have been suspended" and Scotty is a fucking moron!!!

  • cause there's new rules to prevent injury? and btw i dont find it a joke they suspended rome i find it a joke they didnt suspend stevens right there shows how much the nhl has moved towards more saftey for skaters

  • we was suspended because he was a canuck, and the nhl hates the canucks. every (canuck) game's reffing shows that.

  • @kyliam28 haha dude you better get yourself a life rather than whiming on every single comment that doesnt agree with what you think.

Well it just fits..probably a third Sedin sister here.

  • The reason rome was suspended was because only months before this disgrace of a hit the NHL made a rule stating that a player can not hit from the blind side. And to dumb it down for you that means you can't hit him if he doesn't see it coming.

  • @bostonfan117 He hit him in the chest, not from behind and the point of contact was the chest, the hit didn't target Horton's head. Sure it was a little late but Boychuk's hit on Raymond was much later and much more serious.

  • @bostonfan117 blind side means from the side where the player is blind. Qb is blind to the left and behind him in football. Horton's body was facing forward, right in line with the hit, except he was sill staring at the puck. The hit was a bit late, wasn't to the head, and horton got injured from actually hitting the ice. It should have been a 2 min interference at most.

  • I laugh. I remember watching a late hit from earlier in the season made by Nathan Horton with the exact same results. Well, not the same results. Horton didn't get a fine, suspension, or penalty. But the rest was the same.

Not saying that Rome shouldn't have been suspended. Rather, those hits should be equally enforced. Not enforced in such a way so as to suggest biased enforcement and special treatment of certain teams.

  • stevens hit was cleaner than romes

  • I disliked before the video even started

  • fuck the cunucks thats why we beat them in the stanley cup

  • @midnite11100 No, you beat them because you had the NHL pampering you the whole way. Bruins should have had 4 suspensions through those playoffs and didn't get 1. Something is a little fishy there.

  • @midnite11100 fuck the bruins, that's why there fans need to spell properly!!!

  • they are blindside hits to the head. they both deserve suspensions and are both dirty and cheap hits.

  • That hit was not clean he jumped in the air and hit him to the head, and y does it matter now Horton is fine and doing better than ever and we got the cup

  • @bruins19lover Ok, you clearly haven't played hockey in your life or have slow motion...he left his feet AFTER the hit, idiot. Just like what happens 99% of the time with hits these days.

  • It's probably been said a million times , " Stop admiring your pass " Rome , that was pure defenceman , period , there isn't one defenceman that doesn't wish he could have laid someone out in a game like that , it just sucks when the player gets knocked out . Now Scott Stevens was too East , West for me .

  • Horton*

  • Nathan hortoh was moving way faster then kariya

  • @sportyguy619

Speed of the player hit doesnt matter for shit.

  • both hits were the fault of the puck carrier, this isn't peewee. Keep your head up and pay attention. The league shouldn't protect guys who don't protect themselves. Damage to Horton was more an issue with the hard plastic shoulder pads, than a targeted headshot.

  • the guy who posted this is mad dumb. just because they both got knocked out doesnt mean its the same hit. also this was in 03, there have been a lot of rule changes like in football about hits to the head, so the game is very different than what it was 8 years ago. dummy.

  • your kidding right???

  • those hits were very different, but its obvious the video poster did not want to acknowledge that.....

  • well its a different time....hits like these were more tolerable back then than they are now.

I dont really agree with Rome's suspension but at the same time maybe this is the only way to protect the players in this league....tougher suspensions/discipline maybe the better in the long run....

  • theres a slight difference. Rome jumped and hit Horton to the head. Stevens was like a train, he just went and hit Kariya shoulder-2-shoulder. (i am Ducks fan)

  • its the same type of contact dude, plus, back then, those hits were more tolerated

  • Sucks Horton was hurt, but this isn't nearly as dirty a hit as B fans want people to believe.

From pass to hit to, all that happened in UNDER ONE SECOND. 11:57. Watch it yourself retards.

These B fans want it to sound like he passed the puck, a second goes by, then Rome goes for the hit. Nope.

You can see Rome commits to the hit just as Horton passes.

A late hit for sure, but common you pansy B's

  • simple explanation- aaron rome is not even close to the d man scott stevens was

  • totally correct. Clean shoulder hit by rome. Unfortunate horton got hit in the head but you have to keep your head up and not admire your pass when you play in the NHL

  • romes wasnt a blind side

  • New league.

  • League is trying to change some players aren't....

  • What a joke? Did you see how late both hits were?

  • both hits: it's called finishing your check whitch is legal

  • @tampabayscorer yeah, you know...only a couple seconds, and targeting the head, and leaving your feet from the ice.

  • @GoBruinsGo16 Try half a second late, try he left his feet AFTER initial contact as what happens 99% of the time when two players collide like that. Try your bruins should have had 4 suspensions during those playoffs, 3 even before they met the canucks in the finals. Try the cup was handed to the bruins on a silver plater.

  • The rules are different now than they were back then. The NHL did what it should have done. The only thing this video shows is how retarded all Canadiens are.

  • Ok, so you just showed us 2 late hits? What's your point?

  • for all people complaining this is before lockout, look up mike brown hits hudler

  • LOL you showed us a hit from before the lockout and before the rule changes...

  • Comment removed

  • You're retarded. There was a lockout and a complete change in the rules between these two hits.

  • i agree

  • Romes hit he left his feet... and the stevens hit was in the old nhl... they have made many strict rule changes since then so its a clear suspension.

  • Scott Stevens targeted the head of Paul Kariya. Aaron Rome aims his shoulder for a shoulder-to-shoulder check and Horton just moved his head into the direction of the shoulder prior to the hit being made. Don't get me wrong, Aaron Rome should have been suspended, but not for the remainder of the playoffs. You can see the intention was not to drill Horton in the head, but Stevens clearly drove his elbow into Kariya's head. Plus, if Horton kept his head up, would've just been a big shoulder check.

  • youre fucking retarted

that was prelockout when the leauge has a reputation of exactly that and they waant to change it because to many good players i.e. crosby, horton, etc. are getting hurt

    youre a little fuck

  • @bruinscrazy101 coming from a guy whos username is bruinscrazy? sound just slightly biased to me

  • @gnrisinmyblood1 i am not being biased i would be pissed because this is a blindside, and interference hit, also prelockout, the blindside hit was not illegal... youre dumb as fuck

  • cause the refs are sucking bostons dick thats why

  • i believe rome's hit was just a big hit that just happened to send the smaller guy to the ice, rome was also hit like that by pyatt

  • I think the reason why the NHL is cracking down on these hits to the head is mainly cause of what happened to Bergeron, Savard, Crosby, ETC. The NHL is different from what it was 10 years ago, let alone 7. Concussions were still happening, but the NHL was ignoring them and weren't taking them seriously.

  • boston win the cup because Campbell father

  • @Grafixmania You do realize his father stepped down when the bruins reached the finals right?

  • @OriginalSix1924 Why did the NHL allow him to be in an authority position with a son playing in the league? He should have been reassigned when Greg entered the league...... Looked bad from any angle........

  • @OriginalSix1924 You do realize his father didn't step down the moment his son entered the league right?

  • @Hatchwork And why would he do that? Did the Panthers start magically appearing in the playoffs when Campbell started playing for them? No, because it takes a team to win, not a player who's father is director of hockey operations

  • @OriginalSix1924 If you really think daddy-campbells influence ended with him stepping down, your just as idiotic and blind as 99% of bruins fans.

  • @Grafixmania he stepped down before the series

  • Both plays are dirty as hell so YES HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN SUSPENDED! make a real video HOMO

  • neither hit was cheap, neither should be criticized for it either. KEEP YOUR HEAD UP!

  • @Ausyler or it could be the DECADE that happened between the hits and the FACT that rules have changed to protect players from head shots!!!

  • @BruinsCupWinners k stevens maybe a head shot because of the HUGE size difference, but Rome and horton was 100% shoulder to chest, no argument.

  • @westcoastjiujitsu What?Romes shoulder hit Hortons jaw!Thats the main reason he was suspended it was a headshot!

  • Rome left his feet as well. Stevens didn't.
