  • Thanks for uploading, that was fantastic.

  • I bet Ian arranged the strings. Beautiful arrangement, which shouldn't surprise anyone. He is amazing.

  • fantastic i loved it

  • Great video, I've never seen this.

  • This song is so beautiful and so sensual (no sexual) at the same time. What a blast they must have had writing it. And what fun it is to let your mind wander with it. Thanks IA.

  • Such a profoundingly entertaining individual, truly a musical genius. He is one of my generations most talented individuals, yet so underrated. But, he is hardly modest by any stretch.

  • I'm bummed I lived the first 36 years of my life and had no idea how amazing Tull is. BUMMER

  • @MrExley Theres stil time to enjoy Ian's work, including Jethro Tull. All you need to do is simply invest the time.

    ENJOY

  • MA QUANTO MI PIACE!!!!!!!!

  • wow. lovely

  • Beautiful, I can't say how much I love J. Tull, and Ian Anderson

  • @TravenV GO AHEAD, PLEASE TELL US!!

  • @USAJAGROLTYD XD, they are always on my daily play list lol

  • Sweet.

Such a good song and with a live string section no less.

  • @pleased9 Don't you just love beautifully written songs with peaceful strings??

  • Where is Martin? In Caribbeans???

  • @Berkaygergin Please, do tell!

  • @USAJAGROLTYD Martin is in a place where women are young, beautiful and single. Cause MARTIN IS A WOMANIZER. (By the way, I love your favourites)

  • Thanks Ian for getting me through my teens. Aqaulung was more a bible than an album for me in those days. And holy shite what a great sound.

  • @PlymouthVT Too bad I need that kind of help in this cold world. I never thought the world would turn into such a greedy, coldhearted place. Their music helped me, too, when I was a teen. I turn to it often nowadays because it brings a smile to my face and a song to my heart...beating again!!

  • Indeed.

  • that is just so beautiful, and the counterpoint to it, "wondering again" is so depressing. i love listening to them back to back. they elicit so much emotion.

  • That was brilliant. You listen to it and say...that's Ian Anderson all right. Then you look at him and say "I think he forgot his hair"

  • Love you Ian!!

  • Ian ......THANKS!!!!! You and your beatiful music have been part of my wonderful life for many years THANKS THANKS THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Aint That Ian boy all growed up! What a blessing!

  • Aint That Ian boy all growed up!

  • Aint That Ian man all growed up!

  • wow lots of memories come flooding back... beautiful

  • Too many cooks spoiling the tull stew...

  • He's in my top 5 people I would like to sit down and have a beer with.

  • Sooo good. Sooo beautiful!! However, where has his snobbey son drummer gone in this clip? Attitude!! on Lifes a Long Song

  • THE MASTER !!

  • Is this a DVD that one could buy? If so does anyone know name of it? I googled "Ian Anderson at home", and didnt find a copy.

    Thank you.

  • @SCECountZero Found it, "living with the past"

  • Merci beaucoup Ian pour cette très jolie vidéo d'une très belle chanson.

    André, Montréal Canada

  • I'll always be in love with Ian Anderson. He fills me with beauty and makes me cry with joy

  • I'm speechless. Just too beautiful.

  • I never thought about it before this but I sure wish I lived next door to Ian Anderson. Now where did I put that magic lamp?

  • nice job on the piano-wasn't overpowering--well done!also on the violins-wish more music was acoustic like this instead of "overdubbed" in the studio w/technical musical instruments!!Thank you for posting this whoever you are...lol..smiles

  • Bravo Ian!!...Amazing how Tull has evolved through the years since first seeing you perform at Rhode Island College in 1968, or 1969...I forget..Ha! ha!...I guess "Life is a Long Song"

  • This makes me believe there truly is a God. So beautiful I can't stop the tears flowing.

  • This is gorgeous! Thank you IA!

  • I am glad to find this, such lovely and touching perfomance, thank you for posting.

  • Does anyone know what kind of guitar that is. It's what I've been looking for for a long time. The sound is incredable for such a little thing.

  • @ritmojoe It is custom made for Ian by Andy Manson, not sure if you can still buy it but they were selling a replica Ian anderson signature edition from them for £3500

  • @StormwatchUK To me it looks like a Braguesa with a longer arm.

  • @StormwatchUK Greetings from the west of the pond (yet i a am Scottish).I( with a little increase in waistline) have many years of string playind. Is there not another similar acoustic at a much more economical cost? i have looked, but they are generally rubbish for a child begginner(which i belive that should be more encouraged here -Have a Go at it) sorry typo. One does get a bittle bored with only a Dreadnaugt Booming sound at all times.

  • @StormwatchUK He's also fond of Martins, wouldn't you agree?

  • @ritmojoe interms of build its modelled on a french parlour guitar with silver strings, look for a small body acoustic, gauge 9 or 10's or a hybrid set, and some thin plecs n ull b ther dude

  • @ritmojoe I don't know which luthier made that particular guitar, but it's called a Parlor guitar. Any luthier can build one for you. The luthier John S. Kinnard has one available on his website. Also, check out paramount guitars. It's an online store that sells handcrafted acoustic guitars.

  • @ritmojoe It's a recreation of a French Parlor Guitar strung with silk n steel strings. It was a common instrument in European households. The body reminds me of a Quarto. You should be able to find a similar one for a lot less than the cost of a custom made instrument.

  • @ritmojoe The replica won't be the same too probably :)

  • @ritmojoe his guitar is made by brook of devon see brook guitars .com

  • this is great stuff. too bad he didn't do more songs in this format.

  • beautiful and touching and yet you could see another Ian homeless in a park watching pretty panties run, breathing heavy from a cold night under a bush with just a comforting bottle of rum to keep him warm as he mumbles and laughs his way thru the night a soft laugh and a quiet " yeah".

I really like his little parlour guitar. Ian is a grat acoustic guitar player..I wondered why Ray Thomas of the Moodies didn learn to play a few chords to help out Justin Hayward..guess he didn want to!

    ha

  • Brings tears to my eyes.

  • Best 1 minute and 49 seconds on YouTube.

  • @GeorgeLupine3 no doubt.

  • This was filmed in 2001 I think and is available on the 'Living with the Past' DVD also features Life Is A Long Song recorded with the string quartet at the same time as this track.

  • what year is this from?

  • Although Ian's voice may be rough with the stronger songs, he still sounds great with the acoustic songs.

  • Love the shirt Ian!

  • That was sublime! Is this available on a DVD somewhere?

  • @guitaralph hi mate got this on living in the past dvd by tull itsdeaf worth buyin got some good interviews on it 2

  • ...and it's only the giving that makes you... what you are.

  • ...and it's only the giving that makes you... what you are.

  • in two minutes, anderson is giving to us a wonderful world ! long live !

  • what a wonderful world andersen is giving to us...and in just two minutes of intensive happiness! long live !

  • Is this commercially available? Looks like "Life's a Long Song" was recorded at the same sitting.

Grüße herzlich -Danke - Hamburg musst Du buchen - Roger Waters!

  • This is a song for the ages.

  • ahhh dude can't even relax at home without composing genius music!!!

  • @jstarang1 greatest comment ever.

  • This is spe....c...ial

  • The lyrics.........."The smell of toast as the butter runs, as she comes, spilling crumbs on the bed"...

If that doesn't make you weepy, you have no pulse.

  • its only the giving that makes who you are?

    Undistilled genius

  • @Kenentigern7 I know I love that line....one of my favorites

  • Ian Anderson, a modest, unassuming genius......

  • Oh by the way, the lyrics were fantastic! I found my own meaning in them, even aqualung

  • I am 50 now and was 10 when i started listening to your music.

you could of kept repeating doot doo doot doo, through out the whole song and I still would of loved it, just for your voice.

    Again

    Thank you for the years!

  • Ian (i always thought your name was Jethro) lol

Thank you for your fantastic voice and flute playing and your intelligence.

What a beautiful man you are, I appreciate the years listening to your voice, I never cared about the lyrics because your voice drew me in.

    Thank you

  • @comsat1000 Well put. The music of mainstream pop bands like the Jonas Brothers and Justin Bieber will not survive. The music of Jethro Tull, on the other hand, is timeless and will survive forever. 200 years from now, people will still be listening to Jethro Tull, and I guarantee you that no one will even know who the Jonas Brothers are.

  • @vinylrecordcollector who are the Jonas Brothers? I haven't heard of them...

  • Nothing illustrates more perfectly the huge gap between manufactured pop trash boy 'bands' and the like, and true, true genius of this. A true listening pleasure...

  • great music,I love it

  • Ahhhhh,,,,,,,,,,,,,,just exquisite!!

  • damn...this reminds me that ian wrote the song and not me...^^

i play that tune for, like, 20 years now...adapted it to my own style...after 5 years I really thought i am the original writer...lol..

what a great tune out of all the great tull songs!

  • Beautiful Thank you.

  • Amazing rendition! I am glad to have found this, and thankful to be able to!

  • Rick Wakeman should be playing the piano part

  • Recently, I came to a city hosptial's trauma center not breathing and bleeding very much. I totally blacked-out for days. When I finally came around in the intensive-care unit on the slow road to recovery, I requested from my family friends to bring me my Bible and some of the music I had with sweet Jethro Tull songs like this one, Life's a Long Song, "Jack-a-Lynn, etc. Needless to say- it has true healing power, like faith in God and of course, modern healthcare.

  • Superb Sir Anderson... I will always be an admirer of your great talents... I only wish I could see you and your band mates again in California. Oh and by the way please send some Salmon to us as we are out.... Good Day.....!

  • What an incredibly beautiful arrangement. Brilliant ! Thanks, to my friend Rod for sharing; and thanks to StormwatchUK for uploading. 10*.

  • you know, it's strange. the most intelligent people i meet all love ian anderson's music.

  • @ryan13knapp Isn't that the timeless truth !

  • MOST beautifull song I ever heard

  • a great song I've always liked this one

  • I am 32 and was named after this man... I grew up on all kinds of music from old classical, classic rock, older rap, metal, alternative (all sorts really) with the exception of country for which I have no tolerance, but all-in-all Jethro Tull transcends the ages and I love him more than most musicians with the exception of Maynard James Keenan.

  • @Lateralus138 Check out Michael Gira sometime if you love TOOL, perhaps SWANS might do something for you. Heavy and transcendental sounds indeed.

  • @swans1997 Thanx Ill check it out.

  • Wonderful little dity from Aqualung. Ian was so mercurial yet mesmerizing with songs such as this one. Reason For Waiting and One Brown Mouse also comes to mind.

  • So many years of music coming from IA,, and he still just keeps on growing and expanding with his talents

  • A little diamond

  • And an excellent impression of Bruce Grobelaar to boot ...

  • Wonderful!! Simply... wonderful!!!

  • its really nice a really nice gesture to his fans by preforming it from home

  • What a lovely performance,

  • Madrigal!

  • It was probably his house he was playing in. lol

  • Thank you, IA, for the years of listening pleasure you have given us.

  • the greatest man who ever lived apart from our lord saviour peter gabriel

  • What a great intimate performance.

  • His gentlest offering, in a sacred spot...home.

  • I wouldn't be too concerned about the venue. It's a lovely, intimate room for a tender song.

  • That was absolutely lovely.

It sort of bothers me that he had to do this in someone's home. He deserves so much more.

  • Heaven!

  • Wonderful. Captures the essence of the original. Lovely song Ian. You're a genius!

  • geweldig ik hoor dit al zo'n 35 jaar , en nog steeds raakt het mij

  • Beautiful to say the least. I would love to see Ian Anderson once again. He is such a talented soul with so much to share with the world...
