I was there. Came down from Boston where I was in high school. I was 17. I don't remember much but I remember Ginsberg's poem and then tear gas drifting in and most of us running into buildings around the square. Then coming out later and Ginsberg was still on stage, chanting above the tear gas, with about 150 people up there with him! That was a great sight!
i was there too. Slightly younger, cut high school. My dad was bunkered at the SNET building for a week cause they wouldn't let folks in or out. So sad that all that passion got dissipated and most participants went from there to drugging out or drugging out on large houses and bmw's
I was there from May 1 - 2 for the rally--18 years old and went down from Boston w/a friend--That's where the Chicago 7 showed up and called for the National Student Strike. May 4th was Kent State and like a week later was Jackson State.
It was an amazing time. Now all the kids are strung out on video games, junk food and Rality TV to notice the world is a mess...oh well... Incidently, most of us were taught to hide our faces back then--this wasn't the "Notice Me!" generation as is now.
Thanks for the memories. My brother took this video. He is no longer with us and I miss him deeply. He was the worlds oldest living hippie. This brought back many fond and yet painful memories. Thanks
