Most adult gays will tell you this. If that's no longer the case, then all the better. There's nothing false about that comment, it's my experience and opinion.

Well i'm fat and agree with ricky. It's a matter of choice. Yes, there are some cases that people get fat and don't eat a lot, but it's very rare and it's just an exception. Basically, you are fat becouse you sit on your ass and eat shit load of food. I lost weight by eating less and excercising. Then I began to eat more I got fat again. Simple.

@AndoDaPando ...in any case regardless of age of discovery, every single gay person I've known, has at some point in their lives struggled with the fact and fought against it. So when it's said they can't help it, this is what they refer to. Nothing offensive just a fact. The sad thing is that they would want to fight against it because of social norms, but that's another issue. I'm guessin by what you write that you're still quite young, try to be less defensive and more objective is my advice

@AndoDaPando ..it's not a card, it's a fact. As I pointed out, when we go through puberty we discover ourselves, so 9yr olds are hardly relevant. The point is it's not a choice we make, it's the way we are and that's that. Hence one could say we are born the way we are, and certain things don't change. I really don't understand why you find that hard to comprehend, or why you think it offensive as you wrote in your first post. As for you "thinking" you were gay, maybe you're bisexual.

@AndoDaPando I couldn't possibly agree less. I have gay friends and they went through some horrible times as kids. As 12yr olds, listening to dressing room banter and what not, they didn't want to be gay, but can't help how they feel. Gareth Edwards speaks of how he struggled against it all his life to the point of marrying someone to hide it. It's ridiculous to say we're not born that way, of course we are. What happens over time is puberty and sexual awakening, you don't BECOME, you DISCOVER

@jkino78 just beacause you have some gay friends that you heard these things from doesn't mean you're knowlegeable. in fact, the genetic/innate origin of homosexuality is far from being a scientific certainty. while it appears to be the case for some individuals, but there is an immense cultural/acquired aspect to it too. human sexuality is much more complex than other animals, and has a lot to do with conditionning now, more than hormones, like in the past. in any case, it deosnt mean its «bad»

@lubios1981 you're right, I'm knowledgeable for a host of other reasons. To cut it short, I never said or meant to imply that it's bad. It's not a for and against argument here. Gay associations around the world refer to the genetic theory and support the argument that it's the way they are born and so anti-gay behaviour should be treated as sexist behaviour is treated, as racism is treated, that is to say unacceptable. It's also an argument that supports their right to adopt.

gay people exist all across the planet. You wont find fat people in etheopia etc. THEREFORE, being fat is NOT genetic. Doesn't mean we shouldn't have sympathy for people unhappy with their weight. It often points to underlying psychological causes. But as for seriously obese young children, the parents should get done for what is, in my book, child abuse. It's like sitting there and watching your child self harm.

Well i'm fat and agree with ricky. It's a matter of choice. Yes, there are some cases that people get fat and don't eat a lot, but it's very rare and it's just an exception. Basically, you are fat becouse you sit on your ass and eat shit load of food. I lost weight by eating less and excercising. Then I began to eat more I got fat again. Simple.
By the way Ricky never said there is something about being fat. He is just saying that this "It's not my fault" nonsense is just stupid and annoying.

Note: Being able to take a joke has nothing to do with agreeing. Gervais is hilarious. Including his fat jokes. However, it's misleading and sometimes downright wrong to say that fat people are just able to go for a run, or that they "choose" to be fat "one cheeseburger at a time."
Gervais has also said alcoholics are just people who won't stop drinking; they're not addicts. He's entitled to his opinion, but he's wrong on this one.
