You know, I've always felt that Kosh was not like the other Vorlons. I've always felt that he embraced the balanced median between order and chaos rather than the Vorlon extreme of order.
Babylon 5 had Kosh, John Sheridan, Londo, G'Kar, Dr Franklin, Vir, Ivanova & a lot more. All well written and well played characters, without all the usual sci-fi cliches.
@Vikashar : "Matters of Honor". It's the first episode of the third season. Sheridan and Kosh are talking about when Kosh revealed himself in the Season 2 finale.
Never got what the Vorlons do or what kind of race they were how old are ( what kind of power they have and why they wear that big suit ) with the other races and Shadows I remember 1 episode there was 1 last emortal from some race why was he the last and what did his race do?
did they have battles with the Shadows long a go ect :
@HarPlayer The Vorlons and the Shadows were First Ones, races that had evolved millions of years before any of the other current races. They stayed behind as most of the other First Ones left the Galaxy. They were supposed to act as guides to the younger races, helping them grow and evolve. But they disagreed on how to go about doing this. The Vorlons believe that growth comes through Order and Discipline while the Shadows believe that growth comes from Pain and Conflict.
I've never worked out just when the hour of Scampering is. Though its probably some time in the middle of the afternoon. Still, since it's vorlons, one can never be to sure.
This YouTube clip was actually my first exposure to Sheridan. I was only about half way through Season One at the time and this made me really want to finish it and move onto Season Two. He's an instantly likeable character, it has to be said. I really liked Sinclair but Sheridan is another league altogether. One of my favourite sci-fi heroes.
has anyone got the episode where kosh gets killed, that was a shocking moment in the series, he was my favourite character in b5. i love the earlier scene in the same episode where sheridan provokes a reaction from kosh, and gets pinned against the wall...
The Vorlons don't want people to understand them. Think what damage we could do to a race that was 1,000 years behind us. What would happen to savages with wooden clubs if you gave them all M16s? The knowledge we have would destroy their world. We would have to tell them nothing of what we know -- to protect THEM.
The Vorlons are a MILLION years ahead of us. If we knew a fraction of what they now know, we would obliterate ourselves. To coin a phrase: "You are not ready."
If you give people who are 1,000 years behind us technologically, chances are they wouldn't begin to understand how to use weapons like M16s, unless someone was incredibly stupid enough to teach them.
That doesn't explain the Afghani's "we" gave a bunch of tribals in Pashtoo territories - who's culture had practically not changed since Genghis Khan was a man about town and they seemed to have picked up the knack for them quickly enough, being just as deadly as any gang-banger or gangster in the "first world", it's all a matter of perspective.
@sunnchilde do you know the movie "contact"? they're making a good point: the aliens just tell us that they exist. nothing more - because of exactly the same reason you mentioned....
@sunnchilde Actually, the Vorlons are COUNTLESS BILLIONS of years ahead of us. Kosh was born 1 BILLION years ago and he isn't even one of the oldest Vorlons.
I apologize *SwanBoner*, my original reply to you got out-of-context somehow, and must must have read like the snarkiest, stupidest, put-down while making no real sense at all.
I have deleted it (I hadn't realized how horribly insulting it read like), and am sincerely sorry about that post. I was an idiot.
Thanks *7ych0*, this one seems to bring half of YouTube here, even though otherwise, I've uploaded almost nothing (plus having to take 2 down permanently).
Yeah---for a alien so intelligent he can barely be understood when speaking English---but, I believe that would a problem with the language humans choose to use... not Kosh's ability to communicate, eh? :P
No the Vorlaons are really advanced. They would have no problems learning english. Kosh just choose to speak like that. I think that he loves being able to say just enough to make everyone esle very confused.
Oh yeah, he does---at one point Captain Sheridan yells at him (can you imagine a human surviving so much as the idea of 'yelling' at Ulkesh? "We are all Kosh." Suuure---he's been waiting to say that for *how* long? *raspberry*
@Maetel I don't think that your claim about Vorlons able to speak English is accurate. As I understood, the first ones were so advanced that races such as Centari or Humans were too primitve for them, like ants or cattle, so they were unable to properly communicate with them on the same level of understadning. Hence Kosh koans and Shadows dependency on middlemen such as Morden. Its not that they are stupid-they are just very, very alien.
"Good" is exactly right - Kosh has been 'training' Sheriden to not stand in awe of ancients, because he's going to have to kick their asses very soon. A little disrespect is encouraging.
I thought it was something about an avalanche and voting... sounded like romance anyway; ever notice the fake Kosh was always perfectly understandable?
The 'StarFuzzy MX-II':
Now, that would be the new, modified StarFury that comes with the Standard rear-view 'fuzzy-dice' attachment, hei?
Almost 800 people have taken the time to watch this clip---only one also bothered to comment?! [Thanx MkLuzifer (I think...)]
That's not very encouraging; no wonder Joe decided there was no point to releasing the *new* "Babylon 5" movies to cinema---what audience would even go?
You know, I've always felt that Kosh was not like the other Vorlons. I've always felt that he embraced the balanced median between order and chaos rather than the Vorlon extreme of order.

If i remember right about B5 tech manual, it was said that Vorlons use machine translation when talking to other races.
Just when you hear that odd sound every time when Kosh is about speak: That is actually their speech, not that synthetic english.
