Awesome review, most people talk too much about build quality when what matters most is the sound quality. These retail here in new Zealand for $230 thats bout $190USD, would I be better off trying to import some or is that price still worth it?
@jawmalawmnz Just going to tell you that both build quality and sound quality matter equally. You don't want your $500 dollar headphones to have the build quality of $5 dollar ones, no matter how great they sound, just like you don't want $5 with the build quality that last forever but sound like trash. See what I'm saying?
I think the Grado SR-80i's and Audio-Technica ATH-M50's are both great headphones under the $200 range. But my favorite pair below $200 or actually $100 for that matter is the AKG K240 Studio's. But as with headphones what's best for some is not best for all.
Hey bro, I noticed you've been giving the M50's a lot of praise in your other videos. They definitely deserve it, but for just a little more money, you could get Sennheiser HD25-1ii's, or V-MODA M-80's. The M-80's in particular have been getting a lot of buzz lately too... maybe you should review them... (: keep up the good work mah brotha, thumbs up!
Hey I wonder if you can do a review on SOL republic Track HD and compare it to the SR80i? they both in same price range but different in build (closed back vs opened back). I like this SR80i but the sounds leak make me a bit hesitant in choosing it.
Another question: did you put it at max volume when you test the sounds leak?
@Thamielnguyen I've heard a lot about them so I plan on checking them out! The sounds don't leak unless you're BLASTING music lol believe me, I've tried.
@marquesbrownlee Awesome, they're around $100-$120 so it would be alot cheaper for me and I've had a bad history with Beats so I'll be giving the SR80i's a look in a week or two.
You should do a review on Klipsch S4a or S4i ear buds. I heard they are a lot better than beats and a lot cheaper. I just want to hear what you say because i really trust your reviews and probably the best reviewer out there.
Great review, I especially found it interesting when you were explaining the difference between performance in the open vs closed backing headphones. I had no idea that made such a difference, but it makes total sense with how much extra room the sound would have to resonate with the back being open.
another great informative and educated review :D But I love how with your thumbnail pic that you're showing people how much the Beats by Dre. are ripping off the consumer with terrible sound quality at an extortionate rate :P Keep promoting the real heroes like the grados !! mad props :)
Hey Marques i saw your vid on the ATH M50 Audio technica and it helped me alot because im in a 200$ budget and my brother introduced me to the Earphones and i was watching this video and dude you do a very good review on these Earphones!
Awesome pair of headphones! And good choice with some Overwerk!! I can see why they split the cable because otherwise they wouldn't be able to have such a simple headband. Yet again , awesome review!!
Hey man, I'm a drummer and guitar player, and I'm the one in my band that mixes the sound of all instruments. I'm thinking in buying the audio techninca ath-m50, do you recommend any pair of headphones better? Thanks and love your videos!
@marquesbrownlee okay good (: your video of the m50's convinced me to purchase them. and they are AMAZING. thank you soo much and im loving your videos!
This video introduced me to "Overwerk"! He's got amazing tracks! I thank you for that, one of my favorite artist atm! You sir have great taste in music! You should do a tour of your favorite playlist!
@Epic5auce if you intend to use the cans in a portable situation, m50s are definitely better. but also check the ultrasone dj1 as theyre similar price and IMO better looking and sounding than m50s
@marquesbrownlee Loving your videos so far, just checked some more out, but i was wondering what was the cool transition when text goes on the video to some of your motions etc...
@yosoyplatano I have owned a pair of m50 and have also tried the sr60i/80i/125i and they are two very different types of hp's. It really boils down to your budget and sound signature. While the m50 is a bit more expensive it is closed-back and can produce a deeper sound, while the sr80i is open-back it is more "airy," a good thing for a wider sound stage. Also the m50's build quality is much better (and can fold for portability) and sr80i... not so much.
I think you start to become an audiophile when you get to own a really good pair of Earphones, Headphones or any other listening device. Just like LCD monitors once you go bigger you won't be satisfied with the smaller screen anymore.
if a take a quizz on facebook and I want the result of that quizz (Eg: What harry potter character are you ? : Result - Dumbeldore) displayed ....can i do that in the apps section ?
@Alex66Vdz Don't worry he does pro recording for his videos, and he uses pro gear, when you listen to pro headphones you will never go back. Hehe nice to see someone starting out with enjoying the studios getting into audiophile world :D
please review the sony MDR-V6 (MDR-7506 is the same headphone just different model name) or MDR-ZX700 which is basically the successor to the V6. Another worthy consideration is the Shure SRH440. They're all pretty popular headphone among audiophiles
Hey man great review! Was thinking about getting these but would the open design not be a good idea since I would mainly be on my laptop in my university's library? Is the leakage enough to where I would be bothering the other people in there? Should I stick to something closed like someone mentioned the Audio Technica ATH-m50's? What do you think? I don't want to disturb anyone haha
@Shatonmedeek The ATH-M50's are a great choice for that kind of use. In a really quiet place like a library, no open-back headphone will be quiet enough not to disturb the people around you.
Very few closed-back headphones sound good when compared to open-back headphones, but these sound great, and they don't leak much sound.
How does they sound in comparison to AKG 142 HD? I would like to buy alessandro MS1, which are considered very similar to sr 80, but there's only one grado dealer in my country and it's very far from home so I can't try them
The high-end SR325 model has been absolutely fantastic for my home studio work (clean, completely neutral sound with razor-sharp details), not to forget listening to all kinds of music from metal to acoustic to classic to jazz to disco. The only downside is this: at least these Grados are actually *too* good for most portable devices and e.g. computers' audio outputs. They reveal everything in music, including also all the problems with your audio system. A good D/A converter is recommended.
