  • whats the instrument that the guy was usin with his hand that was making the sounds kinda liek he was playing the spoons???

  • @NarutoRocker31

    Actual Spoons, haha

  • @NarutoRocker31

They're called "rhythm bones" or just "bones"

  • They were in TN last night, and were very appealing musically. Only 2 visually though for me. Too much of an age gap between the younger and older men.

    Just a newcomers opinion.

  • @noxvillenellie Wow, just... wow! You are going to bitch about what they LOOK like... when the music is the art. What does the AGE difference of the artists have to do with what they are performing!? An artist's age/appearance has very little to do with the quality of their musical art (ex. Sarah Boyle). I'd rather listen to an older performer with alot of talent than a beautiful young person who has little. I'm going to listen to great music - not judge a beauty contest. These guys are great!

  • Lol I'm learning this in chior. I love it.

  • This is first class!!!!

  • fair play dhaoibh!! an-job!!

  • some ppl just dont like traditional irish music i guess lol effing haters pouge ma hoin

  • @blackhaze126 It's "Póg mo hón"....

  • dear haters: Focáil leat.(; (oh. thats "fuck off" in Gaelic)

  • This is my favorite HK song.

  • Again, these guys r weird..... Choir teacher made us watch this... I have two classes with him so I actually watched it twice. I am scarred for life and I want to cry because of that. Now, nothing against irish people, because I am a little bit Irish. Like sooooooo many generations ago. So yea, go Ireland, but these guys? Take a hike.

  • @emmarocks151 Agreed this is a load of shite, and dont worry plenty of Irish people dont like them either

  • @emmarocks151 Well I'm glad you have respect for the heritage you claim to have -.-

  • oh he has a bass ^^ i play bass and LOVE the song

  • Phil Mitchell's looking well!

  • Love it love it LOVE IT!!!

  • @Emobuttercup599586 yes its such a merry song lol

  • @Emobuttercup599586

Yup, it is a happy tune!

  • @Emobuttercup599586 I do hope ya be meaning happy.

  • I love this song, but I allways start laughing ath the 'with my big heavy sack' part :'D

  • fantastic rendering

  • I've never knew that Irish folk music is stunning , till the high kings

  • This guys are great, I've fallen in love with Celtic musics.

  • they remind me of celtic thunder(:

  • Comment removed

  • This is the red head boy. Fantastique.

  • Ba chóir an t-aon duine nach mhaith an t-amhrán a lámhaigh

  • do they perform in the states?

  • @aleighaharber - They did this summer. I wish I'd seen them in Minneapolis (3 hours away). Need to wait until they're here again.

  • daaaang! wow.

  • Well synchronized beautiful voices

  • this sounds indian to me..... haha

  • @allendupras irish...scottish....indian, their accents are nearly similar :P

  • @Ahamster1 hah but irish/scottish and indian are like half way around the world.... messes with my mind... But actually I have no clue why I would of said that?? I'm listening now and it sounds nothing like indian.... it's super celtic.... huh haha time and it's ability to change my mind.... rrrR

  • @allendupras actually, if we look at it historically, you weren't that far off.

it has been established that the celtic and indian people come from the same root. their "parent-people" were living between the baltic and black sea, then broke up into parts and during the waves of migration moved to asia and the region that is today SW-germany and switzerland. they spread out, kicking the buts of both greece and rome along the way, from ireland to all the way to the central plane of turkey.

  • @r8p6 wow thanks for the history lesson!!! super interesting :D

  • @allendupras you're welcome :) if you're interested in celtic history and or mythology then I'd recommend "The Mammoth Book of Celtic Myths and Legends" by Peter Berresford Ellis. it's a most entertaining read!

  • the opening is great for watching the guinness storm in the glass

  • wishs i can say the first two sylybles=)

  • nagyon jó zene :)

  • Ah, I want to see these guys live! haha

  • There like some kind of Americanised-Irish folk cum Clancy Brothers group. There has to be 20 other musicians behind them. Too smooth and theatrical for me. They're a lively bunch of lads though, except for the River Dance touch is too much for me.

  • The Dubliners version, featuring Ciaran Bourke, is like 50 times better. This version is too manufactured and therefore lame.

  • @bigearl33 Couldn't agree with you more. They sound like some Americanised Riverdance version. Too smooth for me and unnatural.

  • Radmdamdeeleereda'mdaa, ra'm da 'm deelereeda. :)

  • @chrizzo006 how long did that take you?

  • @RonanMacQuarrie not very long, i know the song from heart and the scatting aswell :) id do the whole thing if you want to ;)

  • @chrizzo006

    he chrizzo006

will you sent me the lyrics please

    thanks

  • U guys have instantly earned your biggest fan ever!!

  • How are they so in sync?!?!?!

  • @chickenfarmer51

practise practise and practise is the answer

  • Bravissimi!!

  • I'm seeing these guys tomorrow and I'm SO EXCITED.

  • Wonder how it's possible to sing out all that mouth music? I can't even read it out loud with the lyrics!

  • I wish I'd been there

  • My grandads fav song, never had a bath, couldnt see how you could get urself clean in ur own dirty water, died aged 96

  • That harmony is incredible. Rare.

  • For some reason, i can't stop thinking about Leprechauns........

  • Music like this just simply can't be beat.

  • Four guys, one voice. Such tight harmony on a song that must be hard to sing. Good job lads.

  • I need to get these guys on dvd

  • I adore this song!!

  • 3:12 of my life, I'll never get back,,damn youtube

  • Is there a particular name for that variety of flute?

  • its called a tin whistle

  • @kiernan51 Thanks...been wondering that for a long time.

  • My 3 year old and I have been watching this almost every day for the past month. He tells me, "Daddy, it's time for Johnny-Do!!!" So we watch and he's singing along as best he can. We're getting the DVD next week.

  • i just found out that all my favorit singers are irish

  • Why do the Irish have so many great musicians? :)

  • where was this performance?

  • @cushion25 in dublin

  • where was this performance??

  • truely Irish and greatly arranged, well played and sung too !!!! :-)

  • Just - WOW!

  • we have a multicultural school musical in like an hour, and i have to do a freakin hard irish jig to this.

  • How do they do that? I tried it myself it's just not possible I keep falling over my own words!!!

  • @Fikeuh It is suprisingly easy... all you have to do is keep practicing.. if you want help try looking at the lyrics while listening to the song.... the main thing is to keep practicing cause ill admit it took me several tries to get the words down right lol

  • brilliant!!

  • OK! This was so AMAZING! There is nothing else to say....

  • Die di die di diddle diddle dumDie di die di diddle diddle dumDie di die di diddle diddle dumDie di die di diddle diddle dumDie di die di diddle diddle dum...amazing song!

  • I hope that this band will give a Concert in Linz sometimes. I would be there.

  • how can anyone say that rubbish?

  • God, please send them to Poland, choose their path right there...for at last one day

  • I've just watched this performance over 250 times =D

  • Brilliat!!!!!!

  • cant wait till the new cd comes out

  • awesome

  • I would love to meet them. Darren is soooooooooooo cute.

  • There are 2 ways of explaining Truffle's anger:

1.- He's immature. But he's denying it, so we move on to 2.

2.- The obvious opposite of Immature, that mean,s he's a menopausic old man with anger management problems, who has nothing better to do than claim something other people can't verify, in order to give himself importance.

  • I think he makes fair points. They are very commercial and fake. The spirit and ethos of Irish music is just not present with The High Kings. But I have no axe to grind. If people like these guys, cool, good luck to them, they seem to be very successful and getting lots of cheers. But, I think it is fair criticism that they are overly commercial and resemble a boy band in a lot of ways.

  • what spirit are they supposed to present to you? They have their own sound and it sounds folk enough.

  • @barneyfromkillarney Well, yeah, but there are ways of critizicing. You said the very same he said, but in a lot more formal and polite way. So, instead of being all childish, going "I've been doing Irish music since I was X age, and they're god awful,", and things like that, you said what you thought of them, without being insulting, and without giving yourself importance.

  • I don't agree with that comment at all. But I will say that despite having a Clancy and a Furey in the line up, the talent and stagemanship comes from Dunphy and Holden. They leave the other 2 trailing. The crowd loved them.

  • these guys are amazing . yeah they're trying to make money obviously who isn't??!!!!! i am no american tourist and think they're great. if you think they're so crap don't watch the video.

  • @TheTruffledog Did ya run out of original comments so ya had to cut & paste the verbatum text on all the High Kings videos? Who's paying ya, the Celtic Thunder?? If you'd post your age on your profile maybe the public could verify your immaturity as a cause of your lack of musical taste & experience. Or maybe ya can't understand singers who can use words beyond 4 letters long? Or ones who rehearse before they perform?

  • @CelticTarHeel1

Immature? I've been listening to and playing Irish music all my life. I don't like this stuff because it's soul-less and fake, not because I'm immature.

  • @TheTruffledog yes sir you are immature because you decided to watch this video instead of just ignoring it you freaking immature sad old man

  • why do you have to repost it at every single song. shut up we heard you already

  • A fenomenal song, irish music is always the best!

  • wooow! they are super fantasticc <33

  • Love Darren. Sooooooooo cute.

  • this song has the best opening i've ever heard

  • @JoJoItPo Cant beat Tommy Makem though who brought this song to fame through his mother Sarah

  • Great Big Sea sings a version of this song. It's um... rap style, haha... but it's so awesome. Love these guys!!

  • I should go to the bed in this moment, but I can't stop watching this performance damn! :))))

  • Irish music is great

  • My 1 year old is obsessed with these guys! This song makes her so happy!

  • This is soooo cool! I can't wait for their new CD! :) God bless!!!

  • i bought it last week, its DEADLY! get it asap.

  • does anybody know where i can get the sheet music for the violin?

  • i agree with that

  • i like this song, the music itself, the vocals, it all flows, and not to mention irish music is perrty sweet : )

  • I LOVE THIS SONG :)

  • I was at that concert.

  • they make me proud of my split heratige german scots irish

  • wow...excellent...totally different than Great Big Sea's version...which is at warp speed and good fun

  • There are so many versions of the chorus to this song. My dad sings it more like the Clancy Bros did, and my sister's chorus had an entirely different version. This one has "rowten-dowten" and the other two had variations on "deedle-idle," another popular Irish chorus that Altan always uses. ^_^

  • I know all the words now! :D x
