I do not think there is a DVD with the integral version of St Matheus Passion recorded by Thomaner. The only have recorded in video the Opening ? I know they are recording a documentary for the 800 years of the Choir...but anybody know if they will release also the Passion on DVD? I guess it is a must!

This is really great! Respecting the tradicion of the time of Bach. But I would like to hear an aria singing for one of these kids - i haven´t found in YTube yet. I just know the Harnouncourt recording of the St John Passion, and the arias is not very good. Too much dificult to a kid sings. The arias are dificult to an adult singer, imagine to a kid.

Die Version des Bachchores mit Karl Richter gefällt mir auch sehr gut, besonders der Knabenchor (Münchner Chorbuben) als Kontra ist perfekt eingesetzt.

In these days of world economic turmoil, corruption, war and hunger there is not much dignity left. For seven and a half minutes one can put aside and forget all those worries and revel in the absolute supremacy that Johann Bach brought to the world in this music - the St. Matthew Passion. The choirs ( all 3 of them) here do a superb job, as does the orchestra and Conductor. The boys of the Thomanerchor are astounding in the dedication and passion. Thanks so much for this music of the stars.

Thank you for posting. I've been looking for an entire copy of this performance ever since I saw the other Thomanerchor video posted here back in a few years ago. (ended up with getting a copy of 3-CD Matthäus-Passion set ordering form St. Thomas Church bookstore itself). Now it comes to all make sense that this was a broadcast live recording that made over a decade ago. Still a very good quality and such an emotional music! I hope they would do another world tours soon.

Alle Jahre am Karfreitag wieder: die TV-Aufzeichnung der Matthäuspassion mit den Thomanern von 1999. Diesmal hab ich sie selber auch aufgezeichnet. Trotzdem, warum wird sowas, wie dieses dreistündige Mammutwerk erst um Mitternacht ausgestrahlt, wenn Otto Normalfernsehzuschauer schon von dümmlichen Talkshows und Seifenopern ermüdet nur noch in die Falle will?

Ohne die User wie xxlilian, die sowas hier auf YT hochladen, würd man kaum eine anspruchsvolle Kultursendung mitbekommen.

@ichmalealsobinich Genau deshalb wird es ja um Mitternacht ausgestrahlt.

Vor einigen Jahren gab es auch noch alte Aufnahmen des Weihnachtsoratoriums am 24. nachts zu sehen. Das wurde ja gänzlich rausgenommen. Zum Glück hab ich die damals aufgezeichnet.

@aquaria85 - The choir is Thomanerchor, or Saint Thomas Choir of Men and Boys, in Leipzig, Germany. The performance is at Saint. Thomas Luthern Church, where Bach worked as a cantor. The recording was not done recently, as the video does not show remodeling of the church which was finished in 2000..

@xxxxLillian Thank you! So it was probably not from this year. The Gewandhaus Orchester, Thomaner and Biller were performing it in the Thomaskirche last thursday and friday, but unfortunately I couldn't come.
