I've noticed on some videos that some format/erase the core instead of the Mac HD and all takes well as formatting the Mac HD. I'm wondering is this another way of doing a clean install. Most of the videos show folk clicking on the Mac HD icon to format and not the core which is first on the list.

you have to hit the "format" key on the bottom of the screen. It will format your boot camp windows partition to NTFS.

dude installing two operating systems on one machine (like vista and leopard) does not slow down your machine because it does not boot both simultaniously when you are using vista you are using vista. Basically your vista will run like how it would normally run. I think that for macs it doesn't really run as a separate thing it is still somehow attached to the mac software.
