you should have put blocks above the lava and all of the water then you just stand on the cobble break it and you are inside the block but you dont move because of the blocks on the sides of you you yeild 99% of the cobble :D

The trick with the cobblestone generator is to break the block next to the cobblestone so you are on the same level as it, and it jumps into your inventory. 100% efficient.
