  • Sûrement le plus doué sauteur de toute l'histoire de ce sport....Quel tristesse de le savoir mort ainsi.

  • he was practically out of soprts at the age of 20 ,just an year after his WR due to knee injury .

had he had more years to jump,he would have jumped the current WR!

  • I was a punk High School high jumper when he was the world "rival" of the Americans...I now see. He was just like me...Short shorts, long socks, shaggy hair, crappy training techniques, and a desire to fly...God love'm. Flop or Straddle, it's still flying....Peace

  • how does he do it man

  • Is straddle the same as the western roll?

  • Yes he was the last straddler to hold the WR.

  • great video...too bad he died of cancer at the age of 40...

was he the last straddler to hold a WR???

  • @cirosuperiore: YES he was the last, therefore we admire him.

  • @cirosuperiore Is straddle the same as the western roll?

  • @catmartinez567 NO. the western role is different. with the straddle the shoulders are paralle to the bar and u usually land on your back. with the WR the shoulders are perpendicular to the bar at the highest point and you land on your four...the WR was used when the landing pit was the same as the long jump pit, made of sand and sawdust. and you had to land in a way you did not hurt yourself.

  • @catmartinez567

No, the straddle and the roll are 2 different techniques.

  • @cirosuperiore He died because of alcohol, not of cancer.

  • @rembrandao

Yashchenko had liver cirrhosis due to alcohol, and the cirrhosis was the cause for liver cancer

  • OMG! how did he progress from 1.7 to 2.03 in 1 year? o.O

  • what a talent! Amazing athlete. Thanx for the vid dewd. Peace

  • no,it's not coolio.there are only girls singing!

  • Coolio - I'll See You When You Get There

  • what's the name of the song on 1:42?

  • la graziia del gesto fa pensare che forse il fosbury..non è il top...

  • amazing =__=...what's the name of this song?

  • music: Variations about Johann Pachelbel´s Canon in D major

  • Thank you Peyresourde for these rare and very moving videos. He was an amazing athlete and the video of his training back at the 70's has nothing to do with what nowadays champions do. He was a true talented kid but also very unlucky. He didn't deserve that end and I still can't believe that this blessed young man that was full of health died at the age of 40.

  • wonderful at 1:52

  • thanks again. even more beautiful than p1. will there be a third? i love the end. workout by the water. paklin once was asked, wether Yashchenko would go for 2,50m with modern conditions and flop. he told that V.Y. for sure was the greatest talent he ever met, able to do WR in any period, no matter of jumping stile.

  • @Stafanitus why did he never progress after jumping 2.35? i meen.. he was only 19 years old!

  • he suffered big knee problems, had to undergo surgery and never recovered from that.
